Heroes Season 2 ending 3rd December?

    Blame the writers guild strike!
Heroes' second season may be coming to a close a lot sooner than expected due to the forthcoming apocalypse, also known in some circles as the damn writers' strike.

Sources confirm that the show is going back and shooting an alternate ending to the Dec. 3 episode that, if used, would allow the episode to function as a season finale in the event of a strike. Originally, the episode was only supposed to serve as the conclusion of the current "Generations" arc. Should an 11th-hour agreement be reached and a strike averted (fingers crossed!), the alt ending would likely be scrapped.

Since it just came out that the strike is going ahead (link), looks like December 3rd will be the last episode of Season 2.

    Sh*t.

Balls. As underwhelming as the season is so far, it looks like it is picking up.

It has to last for at least 10 seconds and she has to jump up and down for the full duration.

Let's see how it progresses - "Heroes" won't be the only affected show: it will be pretty much every damn show we watch. I know some have their scripts all in, but I imagine most of the primetime stuff doesn't. We're talking about a lot of reality tv potentially and the deaths of series just starting up :(

Yeah, have started a thread over at the Television forum to discuss the implications and of it, and reactions to it.

Like i said in it, i imagine any show which is due to finish before the Christmas break ('Dexter') has already been fully scripted and written, or is close to completion.

So it's bye bye Heroes, hello *more* reality TV?

    There is no God.

At least Dexter should be fine.

Wow. Going to be a short season.

Maybe they'll come up with some better ideas on the picket lines.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,662 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

Ah, they can fúck right off! That means no more Heroes and no more Grey's Anatomy (just as it picked up again!). Seriously, what would I watch? What would happen without my weekly Sylar fix?!

    Bollocks to this.

On closer inspection, I might be satisfied if the finale went along the lines of Sylar killing all the other heroes, getting all their powers and becoming the ultimate in cool. Then, when they pick it up again, they could just have a show about him doing cool stuff with the powers, with none of this namby-pamby shíte that the other heroes are prone to!

They don't need professional writers. Five words: "Sylar takes his shirt off". I'd watch it.

I am pissed off about this whole strike. But one positive is my ISP will be happy.

So only 5 more episodes if this is true! The first one going out today. That is not good. What do they mean by the "Generations" story arc that would be ending then. Maybe I just havent been watching the series close enough:confused:

I think they were referring to the origins spin off that was planned.

Season 2 was supposed to be split in 2. The first half was 'Generations', dealing with the Sylar showdown aftermath from Season 1. The second half was supposed to be a whole new story arc.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,138 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

From what I've read about Season 2, the Generations Volume 2 was intended to finish after about 11 or 12 episodes anyway, and the rest of season 2 would be Volume 3 of the story. (And thank Christ for that, because a 25 odd episode season about Hiro being angsty in Feudal Japan while Peter and Sylar forget their abilities and Claire gets retarded about some boy at school sounds like a crap proposition).

Ive already lost tonights brand new airings of The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and (if so bored to go download them) Late Night with Conan O Brien!

    I cries.

Oh no, not the The Daily Show too! This is a tv apocalypse. All the good shows are drying up to be replaced with a reality tv shower of shite. :(

Yeah, but TV apocalypse or no, what's the bet people will still watch it? Hell, if TV networks knew that people wouldn't watch repeats or new reality shows, they'd never have let things get to the situation of having the WGA on strike in the first place. Part of the reason this situation is happening is because a significant part of the (revenue-generating) audience will, in fact, watch whatever crap is served up to them.

Heroes is about the only american show other than South Park which I watch, so I don't think I'll be all that pushed if the season ends early.

Sylar sûcks anyways, Peter's way cooler, at least now with his amnesia.

    Back to topic.
All we can do is hope.
What's that strike about anyways, I mean any complete information?
And when it's exactly happening, if?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 30,662 Mod ✭✭✭✭Faith

It has started, and is forecasted to last for months. Most primetime TV shows have a bank of scripts to get them through the next few weeks, but that's it.

Apparently the last writers strike in the 80's killed off a lot of shows that were already struggling. I can see Heroes going this way as well.
Claire in the nip would save it though.

If they ended the show with both Claire and Kristen Bells character in the nip while oiling eachother up for the entire episode, I would be pleased and would most likely buy a high def 50" tv to watch it on. Stocks in Kleenex would also go throw the roof.

Apparently South Park won't be affected because it's a non-WGA show, so that's something to be grateful for. Hopefully Parker and Stone will write an episode ripping the piss out of the strike, maybe comparing the WGA to the Film Actor's Guild from Team America, or having WGA members shout "They took our jobs!"

A 50" tv and Kleenex? Pfffffft, amateur. I'd hire out a cinema and stack sandbags three meters high.

on the plus side apparently they shot an alternate ending so theres no cliffhanger which would be pretty sh*tty otherwise

I think Heroes is well enough established not to be axed after the strike is finished. In the 80's it really only affected shows that were in their first season.

Maybe the timing is designed to allow this to have a few weeks of a strike? Most series have scripts to take them to the mid sesaon break do they not? If it is over in about 3 weeks it should allow them to resume most of them without having too much of a gap in it surely? Then again I could be talking through my hole.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

oh beleive you me: neither side of it is backing down: writers will try to hold on as long as fiscallyy possible and so will the motion picture producers association (MPPA). Its staring contest and the last one to blink gets to call the shots. the WG has the benefit of being the underdog, but dont have the financial support afforded the MPPA. the MPPA however has to deal with the press and the public about it; I dont think people will blame the WG on this one.

It'd be great if the Dec. 3 episode was just one long decent show down between Peter and Sylar.

They'd have to be careful though, because Peter's new electric power could result in Sylar clothes getting burnt off...

We get it already... Sylar's a deep dish pizza of a man..!

Shows you what a good role can do.. no-one was slobbering over him when he was Adam in '24'!
