    Eleanor Tiernan.

Elanor Tiernan is, in my opinion, about as funny as a small white coffin!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭longshanks

women aren't funny, not professionally at any rate. i know girls personally who'd make me laugh more than any of those listed.
stick des bishop in that list as well, finding a growth on me testicles would make me laugh more than he does

One poll option is missing: "the best Irish female comedian ... is a dead Irish female comedian".

I noticed Maeve Higgins is doing pretty well. No one seems to have admitted to liking her yet it seems many do!

There are Irish female comedians now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,820 ✭✭✭grames_bond

alot of people have been looking at the mainstream comediennes alá deirdre and maeve, but the non mainstream ones are far funnier, seriously folks, look them up!!

I assume Margo Carr is on the list to make up numbers or people voted for her because they're hoping she'll give them a slot. Seriously, she bombs everywhere I've seen her and she doesn't update her material despite that. Also, she has no sense of comic timing whatsoever. Haven't seen most of the others but they can't be that bad surely

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,413 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Oh God... from what i've seen - absolutely none of them!

Saw Elenor support Tommy and she got nothing but sympathy laughs and applauses. Couldn't help but squirm in my seat for the poor girl. The material was very thin and her comedy was pretty see-through.

Deirdre O Kane is woeful... she reminds me of a female Brendan O Carroll. Making jokes about periods isn't funny.. it's uncomfortable and been done before numerous times.

just thaught i'd post here coz i havent been here in a while. kudos has to be given to the very talented irish female comedian ms Tasha Kay, and i am not just saying that because she is drop dead gorgeous (altho that does help), she is very funny and everyone should check her out! (in more ways than 1) dont consider her just a "good female comedian", she is a good comedian fullstop!

Out of all of them mentioned above, I can safely say they are all crap. I dont think there are any good female comedians anyway.

I'm always afraid people will take me up as sexist, but I don't think I've ever seen a good female comic. I'm not really sure what the issue is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

Its not sexist when you are telling the truth. I'd need a lobotomy to be able to sit through a Deirdre O'Kane show. Maeve Higgins is as funny as watching a puppy being put down. Her material is incredibly infantile. When I saw Eleanor Tiernan, I felt sorry for her as she was just terrible. The only people who laughed were in fact women.

if you want to see some funny female comedians, cleck out wanda sykes, paula bell, and shappi khorsandi, these are very funny comedians!

    Noble, but futile.
We've already stated this earlier in the thread but I guess people prefer to be right than seek out the truth.

I can say the only female I've found funny and I mean really funny is Nina Conti.
Every Irish female comedian I've ever seen talks about periods and how sex with foreigners is great....Nobody laughed 10 years ago nobody is laughing now ! Change the menu please...

I was greatly impressed by Eleanor Tiernan when she supported Tommy at Vicar St. (The reason she got the gig was by giving Tommy more blowjobs that Karl Spain:D)

Maeve Higgins is dreadful. I don't know how anyone can vote for her. Deirdre O'Kane is reasonable.
Pauline McGlynn is worth a mention

    None of the above ...

Maureen Potter was the best. :)

Saw eleanor tiernan support tommy back in january and thought she was very good!

seen maeve higgins twice, althought her material isnt side splittingly hilarious, she has such a great, warm attitude to every gig and seems to be genuinely enjoying each gig, and this really translates to the audience so shes another one id vote for!

saw another female comedian in the international a few months back, she was half greek if memory serves me correctly, and she was deadly too!

They're all shíte and should be banned from the stage.

    Imo.

Wow, that's pretty harsh about Margo - and inaccurate. And I'll be she thinks that you and Brian are her friends!!

Not to sound sexist but I've never found female comedians funny. Something not right about it. Like watching a women's football match. Just feels strange.

In your opinion it's inaccurate, in my opinion it's very accurate. I saw more of her stand up shows than I can remember and didn't enjoy any of them, neither did friends I brought along. It's my opinion and therefore it's valid, as is yours.

Secondly, what has he got to do with it??? because I think something doesn't necessarily mean that he agrees... we are two seperate people, just because we're in a relationship doesn't mean we think the same about everything... and bringing him into it smacks of someone having a hissy fit and throwing their toys out of the pram. It was an opinion poll, I gave my opinion, which still stands.

Just thought your criticism seemed a bit harsh given that this is a forum that Margo reads. Obviously a friend must have added her to the list because she is not exactly a household name, so just thought it was curious that something so mean would come from someone who hasn't just seen her perform but who also knows her. But hey, now she knows what you think and you two can deal with it however you like. Performers have to take the criticism and the kudos. No hissy fit on my part, dear. Just expressing an opinion, that as you say, should be as valid as anyone else's. I'm actually much more alarmed by all the folks who don't think women (Irish or otherwise) are funny. How depressing!

Its no surprise that there are no funny female comedians here, there's none in the UK either and sure we barely have any funny Irish male comedians either! The only females that I find funny would be Amy Poehler, Sarah Silverman and sometimes Ellen Degeneres. They at least have good comic timing. But its very true that I'm sure we all know a few Irish girls that can be ridiculously funny, a lot funnier than the so-called "professionals"

Probably because she is more well known and people are just voting for who they have heard of, rather than funniest.
I unfortunatley haven't come across most on those list so I cast no vote. The ones I do recognise are not for me.

Hi, I made the list. I just went with the ones I had seen material by. Of course I view the Dublin circuit a lot.

Ive only been to comedy clubs a few times, but big comedy fan. The most talented female comic Ive seen (I havnt seen many, but nonetheless) was in Cuba in Galway called Tasha Kay, check her out- I laughed til I cried! Eleonor Tiernan is v funny too, I seen her supporting Tommy in Vicar st!

Im not a stand up/improv sort of gal/guy but i will make this short and sweet.

Margo carr and her other Half Conal Carr lack creativity and material, You never know when Margo's Punch lines are and Conals bland voice dulls the spirit of the Audience. The Mobile phone in the Guinness Gag is not funny and Margos 5 minute break for ten minutes gag is just wrong but it gets a giggle from 1 or 2 people maybe. I think Comedy Dublin would do great without the two masterminds. Margo has good MC Talent but sounds like a Pirate in doing so, Conal is good for wearing long T-Shirts and digging graves in Glasnevin Cemetary he is that Depressd looking. And as for Margo i think its terrible that you kicked a Member from the group because

    (A) He Was very very funny
    (B) He Made the group seem Professional
    (C) He had Origional Material all the time
    (D) He did not Hog the Stage
    (E) If he did Hog the stage it would stop you making terrible jokes
    (F) He was Popular with every other member of the group
    (G) He enjoyed making people laugh

As for other Female members of Comedy Dublin they are very good especially Gabby from Germany her name should be up there with the rest, And i think ts only a matter of time when Comedy Dublin Collapses due to Jealous Behaviour.

And just so you know this is an opinion from someone who is very close to you.
