The team you hate most is?

As a Packers fan, its gotta be the Bears. An I never liked the Vikings too much, they went through a decent spell a few years back. On the other hand I never minded the Lions and even a few years back poor old Tampa Bay, who used to regularly finish behind Green Bay and make things seem a little better.

Other teams I hate include the Broncos, Bills, Giants and 49ers. The reason I kinda dislike them is that they were winning all round them when the Packers couldn't knock snow off a rope in the late 80s.

Vikings fan here. Most hated team: Cardinals. It's the end of the 2003 season, we are 9-6 and are going up against an Arizona team with a 3-12 record, last game of the season. Leading 17-6 in the 4th quarter, everything is looking good for that spot in the play offs... great!

Oh no. Ohhh nooo. The Cardinals decide they want to win one more game for the gipper and throw two late touchdown passes, the last inside the 2 minute warning to take the game 17-18. Pipped by a bloody point.

And that's why I hate the Cardinals.

Ah yes, I remember that game. Who took the Vikings' place in the play-offs? :D

As a Packers' fan, the teams I hate the most are Manu, England (Rugby) and Sud Afrika.

I can't bring myself to hate any team in the NFL. It's the best league in any sport in the world for a reason: every team has a chance, and is treated equally.

Now if there was no draft or salary cap and wealthy teams could buy up all the talent, then I'd hate those ones, most likely the Cowboys, Raiders, Bucs, Patriots. Green Bay wouldn't get a look in.

Anyone else hate the patriots? It's just the cockiness and all that that they have, it's something similar to Man Utd. in soccer...

Other than that, don't particularly hate any other team (although i do now harbour a dislike for Miami, purely cos of some stoopid girl at the wembley game sunday who just would yell "defenssssssssssssssssssssse, come onnnnnnnnnnnnnn" continually the whole time that miami were on d, even if there was a time out or something... The whole section where i was sitting was pissed off at her by half time...)

I'm a Giants fan so naturally I hate the Cowgirls, the Beagles and the Redscalps. Oh yes, and the Jets as well, they don't deserve to play in our stadium.

I could never bring myself to hate the Cardinals when they were in our division as they were consistenly the whipping boys year in and year out.

Ha I'm the exact opposite. Chiefs fan and hate the Raiders. Originally it was a bit of stronger hate when it used to be the cool thing to wear a Raiders hat or jacket in Dublin. Now that they're sh1te though my anger has subsided as it's pretty much a guaranteed win before the season starts! :p

I was at that game - only thing McCown ever did right for us!
Or was it wrong for us - cos it cost the Cards the number 1 pick in the draft, but knowing the Cards they would have picked Larry Fitzgerald anyway!

Anyway I hate the Cowboys!! They used to be divisional rivals and always bitter games at Sun Devil stadium.

Cannot stand the New England Patriots. Cheaters, whiners and a sorry excuse for a sports team. Not a sense of decency about them.

Amen to that(I used to love that Snickers advert ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSAXLayoMKI ) where the guy painting the endzone at Arrowhead paints Chefs instead of Chiefs :D )

Apart from the Chiefs and Broncos, it would have to be the Patriots, they give arrogance a bad name. They wouldn't know what class and humility are, not talking about showing any.

I normally cheer for the AFC in the superbowl but I make an exception when the Patriots reach the big game

Who do you support? Fookin sick of listening to people hating the Patriots. You know before the Pats won their first bowl in 2001 no one batted an eye lid but now everyone hates them stupid ass clowns. As for the cheating thing I spend alot of time with Coaches in the US and my friend every NFL team does it Pats got caught due to the traitor Mangini and now what does mangini get for his trobles most likely a one way ticket back to college ball as he now has lost the respect of 75% of the current NFL coaches for breaking the coaches honour code. All you clowns who hate the Pats I would get used to it as they will most likely take the Bowl this year and again next year. You may think thats arrogant but thats one bloody good football team right there.

Oh and teams I hate none really just like to see certain teams loose preferably every AFC team that can stand in the way of the Patriots really.

There is no doubting that the Patriots are a very good team. I hate them because of their attitude and arrogance. They tend to humiliate teams and the concept of sportsmanship seems lost upon them. Belichick is unbearable after defeat and seems miserable in victory. Tom Brady (while also being one of the greatest quarterbacks to have ever played) comes across as a cocky media-whore type. Randy Moss is gutless and has no honour. It's a bit like people hating Manchester United and Chelsea. They have fairweather fans in New England too. Before the Super Bowl in 2001 they were rarely mentioned and dwarved by the Boston Red Sox and Celtics. Now they have a tonne of 'diehard-fans' across the States. Can you honestly say that they are going to stick by the team when they start to lose and fade away? Not likely in my opinion. I will gladly root for any team that come up against them on their way to what is sadly looking increasingly like another Super Bowl.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

i am a patriots fan who has always had a soft spot for the 49ers, the pats are winners, end of, its not about humiliation, when the All Blacks destroy a team in rubgy people cheer and say how wonderful they are, success breeds confidence and sometimes arrogance. can you blame them though really? they are that damn good! and just because the pats dont like to take their foot off the gas doesnt mean to say they enjoy humilating teams for sick pleasure! they are winners, they wanna win! and this cheating bull****, you are very naive if you think they were the only team that does this. the NFL motto is and has always been. "Just Win"! it doesnt matter how you get the job done just do it.

i dont hate any team in the NFL. cant think of any right now anyway, maybe the vikings? but its purely because Adrian Peterson has twice single handed make tatters out of my football accumulators!! that san diego game last week really hurt! i stood to make a nice few $$$ if things had gone to plan!

Nope I was referring to his history such as walking off the field in 2004 against the Redskins. He admits himself that he loses interest when his team are losing or when he is in a 'bad mood'. While he was with the Raiders he kept saying how he'd love to move away. The man is a mercenary to be honest.

So People have admitted here they hate the Patriots because they hate Randy Moss how can you hate a team because of a player plain daft.

Cockyness comes from winning and any team will go cocky when they are winning stop cockyness is human nature u win a league or cup and do it a few times in a few years im sorry you are going to be one cocky son of a gun.

As for running up the scores BS this is the NFL Professional Football League not NCAA the Redskins were the only team to accuse the Pats and now because of it the media jump on board. Don't forget the irony here the Redskins did the same thing to Detroit at the start of the season up by a huge margin in the 4th quarter and their 2nd last TD instead of kicking the PAT they went for 2 now tell me which is more blatant running up the score??? Matt Cassell ran the ball in from 20 yards as a QB to run the clock you run the ball not the Patriots fault the Redskins couldnt stop sh*t. Oh and dont forget against the Dolphins didnt the Pats destroy them enough at half time and only put 7 against them in the 2nd half is that running up the score by demolishing them at half time hell no.

As for the cheating thing said enough on that.

As for the fans around America calling themselves die hard yep us real fans know about them loser and hate them also. Same as any sport in the world in fact i have met so many more new bears and colts fans after last season so when teams win so much you will always get the bandwagon. Gillette Stadium will always be full win or lose with the real fans.

I don't think that the recent Patriots success explains why people hate them, were the Cowboys hated in the early 90s, the 49ers in the 80s, the Steelers in the 70s or the Packers in the late 60s ? I don't think so to any great extent, but we might find out, for if this is true and the Colts can manage to repeat, then presumably they'd become the most hated team ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

there was a level of jealousy towards all those teams when they were on top too actually! maybe you just dont remember?? with the improved media coverage and money and competitiveness, its only natural that views will turn more extreme! but there is always a jealousy of whatever team is the best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,788 ✭✭✭Vikings

Whatever about the Patriots, they may be able to beat us but they can never take our FREEEDOOM! you get the idea

So if its not recent success and the increased intensity in media coverage over the last ten years and reports blown out of proportion What causes the hatred??

All of the teams you mentioned as kryogen said had haters also but media back then didnt influence peoples opinion then as they do now.

Look at the reasons people hate the Patriots

    - Randy Moss
    - Bill and Tom (quickly becoming legends so naturally hated)
    - Running up the score ( Media and Redskins Influence)
    - So called cheating (Mangini is an idiot and everyone does it)
    - Arrogance (btw im pretty sure Cowboys, Steelers Packers all showed levels of arrogance due to success just no media around to make a deal of it.)

If the Colts do it a few more times yes you will see the hatred grow onto to them also aswell as the band wagon supporters and arrogance. Come on every sport in the world the team with the biggest success has all of these ingredients: Arrogance, Band wagon supporters, and People hating them i.e Man Utd.

What I have an attitude problem is that what you are saying dont make me laugh. So chucky if a Pats fan gives an opinion straight away they have attitude problems. You are saying that none of what I said is true. Success brings jealousy, arrogance, people disliking the team on top, oh and the ever important band wagon supporter. If I had an attitude problem would I admit that yes the Pats and their fans are arrogant??? And why not they went for so long with no success then they find success and will most likely do it again this year. Human nature my friend.

Take the IAFL when I first joined 4 years ago people told me that the Rebels where arrogant fooks and I thought to myself so what if they are they are a good bunch of guys and they have a lot of success. Facts straight! Washington led 16-3 when they scored the TD to go 22-3 up. It makes sense to try for 2 in this case because the score would be 24-3 and 3 TDs would only tie the game. Kicking an EP leaves the score 23-3 and you're open to the opposition winning the game with 3 TDs.

Washington had the ball one more time in that game and ran the ball 5 straight times before kicking a FG. The last score was an INT. 6 plays, 3:40

Not really the same as the Pats' game. Entering the 4th quarter, the Pats had the ball on their own 13, up 38-0. What did they do? 5 pass plays, 4 from the shotgun, 4 runs and another TD.

Next drive, they took over at the Redskins' 45, with 8:30 left. Cassell is in, 3 run, 3 pass (2 shotgun) and another TD. No real attempt to run down the clock. 6 plays, 2:37.

Can't argue about bandwagon fans, I remember all those Blackburn Rovers 'fans' when Shearer was there and they won the league and where are they now and when Ambramovich finally tires of Chelsea, a lot of their fans will disappear too.
Gillette Stadium will always be full win or lose with the real fans.

The question is how many real fans they actually have.

I wouldn't place a whole lot of money on this being true though, a few years post-Brady if they are stuck in the basement for a few years, I doubt whether Gillette Stadium will sellout for every game. But a true pre bandwagon fan of the Patriots would know, as the Patriots haven't been a regular playoff team for most of their history. How many consecutive home sellouts did they have before Brady & co arrived ?

Gillette Stadium will always be full win or lose with the real fans.

But its only recently the Pats have had a great support. Until the mid 90s they had never gone through a season of sell out crowds. Compare and contrast that with a team like the Packers who were selling out Lambeau even when they stank.

The Pats also had a lot of controversy when some of their players sexually assaulted some female reporter about 20 years back. That's not great for the image either.

Could the Packers perennial support be because there is absolutly nothing else to do in Green Bay except go to Packers games? Even I would go to see a sub-par Favre-less Packers team play rather then stay home and shovel snow. :)

Football wasnt the biggest sport in New England pre the 90's both the success of the Red Sox and Celtics made football the weakest supported sport in New England but with the new interest in the younger generation growing up and of course the Bowls of course the interest grew again. I have been a Pats fan for the last 16 years and many of my US friends in Mass are also and we all know the interest re-grew but that happens with every sport and team. And as a person that travels to Wisconsin alot there is a better love for football in the mid west than on the east coast. Wisconsin Badgers and the Pack are loved throughout WI and off course have great footballing histories. Adding the two together is a great ingrediant for any team. You wont get an argument here about who has better support throughout the years besides thats going off the point anyway.

Showed that to my Wisconsins friends and they laughed and agreed hehe :D:D Packers have a great history behind the club and pretty much the whole state follows them and with the Success and Brett Favre have also got alot of international fans who travel.

Have you been to Green Bay man that town is tiny lol Cant blame them for going to see sub par football over the years :D:D Wisconsin is a great state go there alot they drink like us Paddys.

I never made accuses for the Patriots cheating nor did I deny it. So called as in do you honestly think the Patriots needed the film this year?? come on pull the other one and every coach does it in some way only the Patriots got caught I think you will find in every post about the scandal i never denied it clown.

The Packers removed the same guy from their sideline 2 years ago but they never caught him the act the were suspicious of him. And in the NFL he wasnt the first opposition rep to be removed from a sideline in the last 20 years. The Patriots got caught got made an example off. And Eric Mangini well he lost a lot of respect from alot of coaches why? because he brought attention to something that is being done by every other coach.

Not true of the Cowgirls. They generated plenty of wry disgust for promoting themselves as "America's team" in the 90s. Though players like Aikman, Smith, and Novacek were admired and respected ... glampuss Coach Johnson and control freak owner Jones helped sour the team's image.

The Patriots were not favoured in any of their three super bowl victories. The punters favoured the opponent in each one. Recognition and respect for their accomplishments was late in coming and even then it has been begrudging.

It's true that not all dominant teams are despised. The Steelers and 49ers were popular in their dynasty years. The Yankees became disliked partly because of being big market media darlings but moreso because of their "buy a championship" approach in America's non salary cap baseball league. By contrast, The Patriots roster moves and salary management over the past seven or eight years have been nothing short of masterful in a league were spending is capped. The team they remind me of the most is the 49ers of the 80s. They had good talent scouts and made great moves. They also played on the field with a ruthless efficiency similar to the Patriots. Maybe Brady learnt something growing up a Joe Montana and 49ers fan. Similar to Cool Joe he has cultivated that laid back and smooth image. Yet shunning many an endorsement opportunity and keeping interviews to a minimum. Like Montana Tom hasn't always had the gaudy stats of a Marino (i.e. a Manning) but you always had the sense that in the end it would go his way most of the time.
