Don't have a top ten list, don't watch enough TV.

Off the top of my head - ever seen HANDS? It's cool to watch of a sunday with a cup of tea. 'Tis about old oireland. How turf was cut and butter was made and village dances etc. Sounds boring, and it kind of is, but it's nice to watch. That Ireland is looooooong gone dude.

Any educational program is good, like David attenborough's Planet Earth or his older series. Or Carl Sagan if anyones ever heard of him?....

Oh and how can I forget STAR TREK!!!!

    Six Feet Under
    The Wire
    Deadwood
    The Sopranos
Band of Brothers(there was a bunch of episodes & they aired on tv, therefore it counts;))
    Oz
    Weeds
    The Larry Saunders Show
    Arrested Development
    Dead Like Me

If you asked me tomorrow, I'd probably come up with different list, apart from the top 3.

What the hell ever happened to HBO, though? They used to have some top quality dramas, now they all they have is The Wire, which is ending in a few months. I gotta say, for the first time ever, Showtime have a much better line-up of shows than HBO. There was a time in '04 and '05 when those top 4 shows there were all on-air. Compare that to the situation now.

They really need to get their act together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Ye HBO really have gone to the dogs! Not only do they not have too many great programs anymore except for the Wire, they started cancelling very good shows without giving them proper endings-Deadwood and Carnivale.

Agreed. The only show after "The Wire" that I'd watch is "Entourage" and I most certainly don't consider that remotely in the same quality league as their other output. Gone are the days when we had "Oz","Six Feet Under", "The Sopranos", "The Larry Sanders Show", "Carnivale" and so on

Whereas Showtime is giving us "Dexter" and "Californication" and then there's the likes of FX with "Nip/Tuck" and "Rescue Me".

Hope HBO aren't on a slippery slope - the only remotely interesting thing on their lineup, that I'm aware of, is the follow up to "Band of Brothers" and that's not due for a while yet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭kevmy

    1) Soprano's - absolutely fantastic I've never seen another show as good
    2) The West Wing - smartest and one of the funniest drama ever
    3) Fr. Ted
    4) Battlestar Galactica (reboot) - what I'd make if I was making Sci-Fi
    5) Star Trek (TNG + DS9) - together too save space but 2 different and very good shows
    6) Arrested Development - highly underrated laughed so hard when I first saw it
    7) Friends - it was good when it was good
    8) Simpsons - still one of the better comedies on TV even if has gone seriously downhill
    9) Veronica Mars S1 - just such a perfect season it had to go in
    10) Heroes - it could very easily move up the chart

Others worth a mention which may move into the top 10 on my mood: Lost, Prison Break, 24, Friday Night Lights, Band of Brothers, X-Files and, one I'm new to about halfway through S1, The Wire

They do have a future project from David 'The wire' Simon to look forward to, though. It's gonna be set in a post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans. Set around the world of music, I think. We won't see it 'til 2009, though. Same for the Band Of Brothers follow up. Christ, are they gonna be showing anything next year apart from Entourage & Flight of the Choncords?

Not to mention Weeds & Brotherhood and a possible 3rd season of Sleeper Cell next Christmas.
