Long time reader ... first posting ... great forum.

I'm considering putting up some willow or bamboo garden screening in my back garden and trying decide which one. Is one more durable over the other? I like the darker colour of the willow but I think I heard once that bamboo is more durable. Any advice and/or experiences much appreciated. If anybody knows of good suppliers in the gtr Dublin Area, I'd appreciate those too! Cheers.

I put up some willow around my garden to hide a block wall 2 years ago. No problem with ware at the minute, I really do prefer the willow to the bamboo but each to theirs. Purchased in Atlantic Homecare BTW.

Whatever you do, make sure it's secured properly - I bought bamboo screening last year and over the winter, the wind made bits of it (the wire holding it together tends to corrode as well).

I ended up re-using the bamboo strips however by weaving them through 6'x6' wooden trellis, to make a much stronger, view-blocking yet wind-permeable screen, much better job. You can always stain the bamboo darker if you like.

Thanks for the replies all. I'll bear that in mind about securing it properly. The garden is fairly sheltered but I hasn't factored in the wind or the corroding wire.

AFAIK broad leaved BBOO better than narrow leaved.
also willow tree roots will find any cracks in your sewage drains/manholes

My friend, maybe it's been a while, but they say that the knowledge never gets old :) The bamboo screen is more durable and stronger than willow. In addition, it grows very quickly and spreads by multiplying. So you have to be careful because if you use a bamboo screen once or plant it in the ground once, you may not be able to eliminate it in the future... ;)

I'd imagine the Op is talking about bamboo or willow derived screening here, not actual plants.

Bamboo would be more durable, Bamboo.ie do a black thick stemmed bamboo screen, not cheap but looks amazing.
