    Hi all

Over the past few days I have felt like I'm getting a cold - have that slightly jaded feeling, and I keep coughing to clear my throat every few mins - you know the feeling?

I said **** it and went to the gym three times last week and actually felt better after it ,but feel a bit worse today - just wondering what your opinion is re training (weights and running) when you feel like you're catching a cold - does it make it better or worse? I have heard that low-moderate intensity exercise actually boosts your immune system, but that high-intensity exercise can stress it...anyone know for sure? that said I wasn't training over the wkend at all.

I know it's prob a case of if you feel up to it, do it! But would be interested to hear some informed opinions just for my own interest in this.

    Thanks

Yes I've heard that alright - that in the few hours post exercise you are more prone to infection...but what about after immediately after a workout...?

I'm no expert and I'd train 4/5 times a week but when ever I get a cold I keep up the gym and like you I tend to feel better after it.

Like crotalus667 says, expending all your energy in the gym means you have less to fight the infection with. Your immune is down, it could result in your cold getting worse, or developing into something more sinister. You need warmth and rest.

If it's from the neck up, I continue to exercise.
Anything below the neck I take a rest.
