dot.gifFocus Ireland are holding another fantastic comedy night this Friday in the Sugar Club to raise money for the homeless of Ireland. There will be five brilliant comedians and loads of great raffle prizes! And entry even includes admission to the club night afterwards - Sassy Sue's GoGo Inevitable! So come and support a good cause and have a good laugh while you're at it!

There's a poster here so feel free to print it off and spread the word among your friends and colleagues!

Here's what dublinks has to say about it:

    Comedy gets Focus-ed!

On 30th November, join five of Ireland's funniest rising stars for a fantastic night of comedy (and loadsa prizes) in aid of Focus Ireland.

    Focus Ireland's Comedy Fundraiser

Venue: The Sugar Club, Leeson Street
    Date: 30th November
    Door: 19.30
Tickets: €20 (including admission to Sassy Sue's GoGo Inevitable)

    FEATURING
Keith Farnan (RTE's The Liffey Laugh, BBC's One Night Stand)
Jarlath Regan (RTE'S Just for Laughs and Scope)
Damian Clark (Star of RTE'S I DARE YA)
Carol Tobin (Bud Light Revue, RTE's The Liffey Laugh)
John Lynn (RTE's The Liffey Laugh, BBC's One Night Stand)

What do you get when you combine that warm, fuzzy "just done a good deed" feeling with the buzz you get when you laugh so hard your cheeks hurt? Focus Ireland's Comedy Fundraiser, that's what!! With stand-up from five of Ireland's funniest and fastest rising comedy stars, and more amazing raffle prizes than you can shake a stick at (if you were so inclined, though why any would do so is beyond me. Maybe it's more fun that it looks?) you're guaranteed a fantastic night out. And with all the money going to help Ireland's homeless, you know you're doing something to really help improve the lives of those who need it most!

So enjoy some serious feel-good factor this 30th November, with laughter and good karma galore at this very special night out.

You can book your tickets online NOW, or by e-mailing events@focusireland.ie or calling the Booking Office on 01 8815912.

Happy New Year from The House of Fun Comedy Club. 2007 was a great one for the club featuring the cream of Irish comedy. Names such as Tommy Tiernan, Jason Byrne, Neil Delamere, Joe Rooney and many more graced the Axis stage in Ballymun.

2008 promises to be just as good if not better with some great shows in the pipeline. We kick off 2008 with a howitzer of a show ! Late last year, two young comedians, one Irish, one Australian appeared on our TV screens in RTE's I Dare Ya. It was a huge hit with audiences and featured Irish comedian Andrew Stanley and Aussie funnyman Damian Clark taking on dares submitted by the public. January 26th in the Axis Arts Centre Ballymun, the I Dare Ya show goes live.

Read this bit written by Andrew himself about the show :
'Last year we had a show on the telly and in it we did some of the silliest and stupidest dares that you can imagine but we had so much fun doing it that we decided to take the show on the road and do some more just for all of you lovely people. We will be starting in the comedy capital that is Clonmel and taking it from there and in the tour will be some clips that didn't make it into the TV show, some dares that we filmed before we even started getting broadcast to the masses and also some new dares that we will be filming as the tour goes on. A lot of people ask us what were the stupidest dares that we carried out making the show and you will find out in this tour if ya come along'

Support on the night comes from Aidan Bishop, resident MC of the legendary International Comedy Club, an act not to be missed !
Show will also feature short bits from Willie and Dean and Eric Lalor will be hosting
    Tickets 15euro , doors 8.30pm, Box Office (01)8832100

.....actually DON'T! just trust me, dont!

Too late. Ah well, I've learned.

On Topic: I'm MCing the Special Olympics fundraiser at the Tap Bar this Thursday... pretty sure the lineup includes Eric Shantz, Kieran Lawless, Gabby Reilly, Jack Kincaid, Geo, Kait McMurray, and Denis Mulcahy. There might be others but I could be wrong.

I wonder... would doing material about the Special Olympics at a fund raiser for said Olympics be mandatory, or verboten?

ah slimJ whats the worst that could happen if you make those jokes....what r they gonna do? chase you? :pac:

geo makes special olympics jokes so youll be grand!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 203 ✭✭squidgey

I would proceed with caution. There will probably be people there who are family members of athletes, or connected to people with special needs in some way. If you don't have that connection yourself then it's possibly unfair to do material about it.
Geo has an attachment to the special Olympics, the audience will know that so that "permits" him to do material about it in some degree. He will be allowed get away with more.

If you're a black guy in a wheelchair, then the audience will never criticise any jokes you do or any words you use surrounding black people or people with physical disabilities. Bit extreme of an example, but a more realistic one would be the fact that I have recently just become a father. When I explain that to people in a set I think that permits me to do more econtroversial material on children. Personally I think I now deserve the right to do those kind of jokes because I have an emotional attachment to the subject matter.

Does anyone have a wheelchair and some shoe polish I can borrow for Thursday night?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,972 ✭✭✭orestes

    Stop this discussion here please.

If you want to discuss the matter start a thread on it. This thread is for posting shows, that's it. If I see people taking pot-shots at the special olympics (or anyone else for that matter) in this forum again I will hand out infractions. This is a discussion forum, not a joke forum. You wanna post jokes, post them in humour, but follow the rules in the charter there too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 103 ✭✭Damon Blake

    "I'm giving you three options:

    1) You can post in the Humour forum.
    2) You can make jokes here.
    3) I can give you an infraction."

    "Um, then I'll choose 2?"

"THAT'S NOT AN OPTION. Dooooo I look like someone who cares about semantics?"
