    Hi All,

Im just reading that Irish Women; Gods gift to the Earth thread and its gone a bit crazy on how should women behave when approached in a night club.
I don’t believe night clubs and to a lesser extent bars are a great place to meet women when you’re looking for something more long term. I have hooked up with women in night clubs, never gone any distance really. Parties have been pretty good for meeting girlfriends, women seem more relaxed and you have something in common.

    Anyway my question is:

Where do you think the best place is to meet someone outside bars and clubs, for potentially a relationship?

Also if you are not Irish please include that in your response. I would like to see what foreign attitudes are on this.

Ill get the ball rolling, I think swimming pools are a good place, people are relaxed and you get a good look at the form.

    J

Swimming pool is the last place IMO

    Dancing club
    Internet
    Evening walk
    Shopping

These are all the places where i have met women.

But i think the Best place to meet a woman is in Court*

*I hope and i wish this does not happen to anyone.

um... (I'm irish & female btw) I guess nightclubs etc aren't the best as you said -- you don't really get to talk much (potentially too loud in there and or drunkeness) so it's probably just more of a physical attraction (not that that's bad but it can't be the sole thing to draw you to someone). I'm sure people do meet in nightclubs & become partners.

I guess... socialising.. talking online / clubs* / dance(for example) classes /courses...where you can see the person in their everyday manner and see if you like the whole package. As you said the swimmingpool / gym might be a place, if you see someone regularly and chat etc..

*as in social clubs not nightclubs

Nightclubs, in my opinion, are generally woeful places to try and meet girls.

As someone already said, all you've got to go on is physical attraction, and also how lewd you're willing to be, and a lot of people are uncomfortable about that and would be overshadowed, sometimes undeservedly so.

Case in point, I used to have a mate we called "Snake Hips", because he just went up behind a girl he fancied, grabbed her hips, and wiggled his pelvis in a bizarre, pseudo sexual slither. After a few minutes/hours of this, he'd turn her around and eat the face off her. Worked every time. Of course, there was nary a whiff of action for the other lads when this happened.

Maybe that's just the kind of action girls are looking for from people in nightclubs, I dunno, but the best place to meet girls for "maybe more" is the gym imho. Shorts, optional. Clingy top, essential! ;)

I think the best way to meet someone is through mutual friends or at a party.
I met my boyfriend through playing tag rugby, so social sports teams are pretty good too.

I think the pub is a greaat place to meet people. You can talk to people cuz its not too loud and theres a good relaxed atmosphere. Clubs aren't great cuz its hard to communicate properly there.

My longest relationship was with a girl i met in a nightclub, we lived together. We're broken up now but still friends 3 years later.

My current girlfriend i met in the airport, we both work there(different companies). We're together about 4 months

Through work seems to be how most of the people I know met their husbands or wives. Not me though, I met my feller in a messageboard meet up a lot of years ago.
Not this board, though, a different one.

I would never go to a club to meet a guy. Ever. If I want to find someone I like, I have to be able to talk to them, to see if they have a brain. You just can't do that in a niteclub. Why not try getting out and joining groups for extra curricular activities. Think of what your interests are, then find where other people with similar interests are. It has always been my experience that when I do a night course, class or even local community meeting it is always mostly Women. That is where we all are. Go and find us in places other than loud irritating clubs.

What sort of groups? Obviously there has to be alcohol involved. How else are you supposed to get the chick drunk enough to let you enter her? Are you proposing bringing back shebeens?

I dont think the swimming pool would be a great place to meet someone - too much staring and you could come across as a bit pervy

Plus, I know I would feel abit vunerable being chatted up whilst being nearly naked with all my wobbly bits on show :D

Think maybe work - or walks, or social clubs??

Puts a whole new spin on "courting" women?

Most bars and clubs for singles in So Cal are called "Meat Markets." Good for a fling, but not a serious relationship.

Alternatives to pubs and clubs? In the beach cities of So Cal:
    • Sunbathing on the beach
    • Slipping into a large flatcomplex pool
    • Flatcomplex hot tubs at night when someone's brought booze
    • Hanging out beyond the waves on your board while surfing
    • Joining a mixed crew and going sailing
    • Circulating the crowds whale watching from a pier
    • Roller blading in Venise Beach or Balboa Penninsula
    • Sharing tables while accessing wifi in a free javahouse hotspot
    • Crashing block parties near the beach on holidays
    • Circulating the crowds during the Parade of Lights in Newport Harbour
    • Crashing university holloween parties in costume
    • Driving down Pacific Coast Hwy in a topdown convertable chatting up passersby at stoplights
    • Travelling inland and doing a wild Spring Break in Palm Springs

I'm Irish, but now a foreign student attending USC.

I think approaching someone in the pool is tantamount to tattooing pervert across your forehead.
I also hate it when lads try to chat you up in the gym, generally your at your sweatiest and grottiest in the gym, and I don't like talking to anyone in that state.

I prefer to be chatted up in nightclubs, I think the intials of a realtionship should be based on physical attraction.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭Lil' Smiler

I definitely agree that nightclubs are woeful places to meet someone that you'd like a potential relationship with.

for the last 2 years, my group of friends and i have spent many a weekend going out with our only single girlfriend of the group. she's a lovely lovely girl but a nightclub just isn't the place. she's either plastered or kisses a guy who's plastered, they exchange numbers and it goes no where.

We've said to her to try other places such as different clubs (social things), activites etc

but would the majority of people not meet someone through friends?? I know every long term relationship i've had has been through a friend of some sort.

How about dinner parties? Where people actually get to talk. not like a staged one for single people etc but a nice mixutre of people??

Better yet a puppy, a particularly cute puppy... supposedly a relative's/friend's young baby can work quite well too...

As for hooking up in the gym/pool, just seems rather obvious that it's more about their body than their personality to me. If a girl tried chat me up while I was in the gym/pool I would not be impressed. If nothing else I'd be wondering why she wasn't wearing her glasses:o

The internet- its safe and fun

Friend of a friend is probably the best

    College/ Courses

If you like playing russian roulette, work

Make a joke on the bus

    Train journeys

Just talk to us lads, we are normal.....

Most people would take the piss but ya never know-Mr Right/Ms Right could be there at that moment. I think that a spark could ignite there-I felt that the one time I went although nothing happened for me!

Aah no-I disagree-it could be more than that if the moment was right. For example I might have a fascination with with wildlife and the mating trail of the bare assed baboon. The girl i meet could have been on safari in Africa for the past year and just happens to have photos of animals on her mobile-all it takes is a few minutes and boom bada bing Mammy is out shopping for a hat!
