Weighing scales

    I must have stepped on about three scales in recent times and they all give different readings.

    I am going to buy a new one soon but am unsure as to what to get. I need something accurate.


    Is there a premium brand for scales?

    How different a reading?
    Its quite common to get a range of values when you weigh yourself, if you are casually hoping on every so often.
    Clothes you are wearing, just eaten food, or gone to the bathroom, these are all going to have an effect and a swing of a few kilos is common.
    Start weighing yourself at the start or end of the day (or the week ie at the gym) wearing as little or possible (or the same/similar clothes each time)

    ^^ as above, you'll get an accurate reading if you weigh yourself under the same conditions each time.

    If you compete in something and need a calibrated scales then I'm not sure what to get, I just use the one in my gym and it's quite big and expensive looking!

    I have noticed differences of 6-7 pounds!

    before you plan on heading out to spend money on a new weighing scales take into account the different factors main what time of the day you weighed yourself it is best to weigh yourself first thing in the mornin as ypur weight flucuates during the day and this could be a reason for your different readings

    Salter are considered a decent brand. The trick is using the same scales at the same time each time. So have the same hydration and clothes. you really want to track progress, if the scale is consistently out by 3lb it doesnt matter too much- you want to see if you are gaining or loosing.

    To test a scale you can always load some weight plates onto it- cheap plates might vary a bit too. Load them up to around your own weight. In the future if you suspect the scale is out you can re-weigh your plates to confirm.

    6 - 7 pounds is an easy difference to make up, if i change from my runners, tracksuit bottoms, and teeshirt to jeans, shoes, teeshirt and jumper.. the difference could be as big as 6 pounds right away.

    as well after dinner etc you will weigh more.

    What i do is just use the exact same weighing scales, and i pretty much wear the same thing on it every time, and use it 3 times a day, morning, evening and night.
