    Hi Guys,

Got a leaflet in the door this evening about a new range.
    www.kinsealy-grange.com

    Sounds good. Leaflet says
    50 Bay Driving Range
    3.5 Acre Short Game Area
    Covered Putting Green
    Mini Golf
    Golf Simulator
    Paul Cuddy Golf Academy
    Golf Pro Shop
    Professional Club Fitting
    Cafe Area
    Extensive Parking

Sounds good to me. Looks like it is opposite the Portmarnock Driving Range " the track.

199 Blips for the Year with a thirty joining fee.

For this you get access to short game area and discount range balls and in the pro shop

Is it worth it for the winter??

Anyone heard of it or got any comments???

Sounds good whats the story with the website you would think for a 5 star driving range they would invest in a good website.

It sounds like a good driving range and its about time the northside got a new range. The balls in Portmarnock range are crap.

So when it opens might see you there.

Does it look well. I must pop down and have a nose. I dont like Portmarnock range at all but it is there or Airport. Can you see the actual range area from the road. It would be class if you had proper looking greens to aim for instead of hills with flags scattered around.

I agree Ninja about the website pretty poor attempt to be *****'s.
    But sounds five star

You can see the driving bays from the road. its ony a few hundred metres from the old range. You head down chapel road towards Kinseally Church and its on you left up a new tarmaca driveway ( I heard the old range is going to remain open ? As a bp golf academy ?) I might drive in to have a look at the new one this evenng. Have to agree the balls are crap in old range. Hate all those yellow ones marked stolen which seem to have appeared in the last 6 months.

If rumours are true this new range is supposed to be high tech. I have heard of one range in wexford which puts the ball on the tee for you and has also allows you to push a button to select one of 3 tee heights. Have to see if this is the case. Someone told me that there won't be a mesh enclosed tractor either ..there is some sort of conveyor system ( again hearsay at the moment).

I bet there will be a nice new website there soon ( At least I hope there will be !)

I've seen the automatic tees before - they break down a lot!!

The conveyor system is OK - works well in places like spain etc but may not work as well on soggy irish soil!

    What balls are they using?

I think we better wait until it opens or if I call in I'll try and find out. As I said its what I heard locally but I haven't been able to confirm it yet!

I'd be interested to see what this place is like. Driving ranges around Dublin leave a lot to be desired imo. There are generally very few targets to aim at. And more often than not, you find yourself in a bay alligned no where near a physical target and then have to manipulate yourself at a different angle to all these parallel lines you're faced with - from the floor, the mat, the dividing wall, etc.. I do like the funky new targets that Elmgreen have now at their driving range.

Dak you seem to be in the know. I would be interested to know when it opens. Can you keep us lot posted. Te only way I knew about it was through a leaflet drop in swords.
BP Golf is run by Barry Power. I used him last year and it immensley improved my game from crap to ok. lol The BP range is always dirty. Burned out cars on it aswell now and again.

I used these automatic things in Drumoland Castle driving range before a round. Handy enough but as one poster said they do have a tendancy to break down.

I am Glad I brought this up here, about time that facilities here were upgraded.

Keep us humble folk informed please!

I asked around guys that new range is not being automated whick i cant ffffiinngg understand it why build a new range and not automate it.

I do how ever know for a fact that there is a new range opening in March next year in kinsealy ( Feltrim road ) back road from the malahide road to kinsealy village. And it is being automated the owner is a farmer and is a good friend of my fathers.

He asked me for my opinion i told him just make sure you get the very best range balls and he showed me a few he had in the car and they look as good as titleist balls.
He is a bit of a spacer but he told me he has the automated tees bought already.

So its about time we got some decent facilities.

We will all have no excuse next year.

Leopardstown has those auto teeing gadgets, although not a fan, I like the semi golfing feel of actually putting the ball on a tee. Ball counter is handy for checking to see if you get as many balls as you pay for!, I've only managed to get to 88 (after paying for 90). What I could never figure out is when it tees up a ball and you take it down to play off the deck, it doesn't actually tee another one up until you hit, gotta be weight sensor or something although I hit from a different part of the mat that the balls are tee'd up on so, thats why I could never figure it out.

Good I suppose if you have a dodgy back, but why would you be hitting balls then...

I drove up to the new range last night. There was no one around to get any info from. All I can tell you is that it is a has a 2 storey L shaped structure ie Tee boxs at ground and first floor level with carparking for I'd guess 50 or 60 cars. The range area is under grass but no sign of any greens or flags yet.

I couldn't see any evidence of automated tees either which is disappointing.

It would be cool if it was one of those multi storey ranges they have in Japan.. Doubtful though from the sounds of it.

The automated tees are no great shakes really. As mentioned above, Stepaside have them. They can encourage you to just whack ball after ball without bothering to setup properly..

The automated tees are alright but not really needed. I would be happy with a few decent targets to hit, from every bay straight out. No repositioning to akward stances. Something half decent would be good. Any here consider joining it? " the prices I said. Looks alright but wether i would get enough use is the question. Far better out on the course if possible. I plan to play Corballis a bit over the winter.

BTW Dak can you keep us posted if and when you see it open?

GUI academy has about 12/14 targets - lots to aim at. Plus they are all shaped like mini greens - good for target practice.

Competition is never a bad thing ! At the end of the day its only a practice area for the real thing ! I guess they have called it Kinselly-Grange just so people won't confuse the new and the old !

Your right bobby, top men up there but I would like to see more targets to shoot at. It is hard enough with poles and all to try get a realistic target. Although you will probably see me there over the weekend at some stage.
I have got many a lesson from Barry and have to say I aint gonna take him down, he does top quality lessons. The dvd analysis is really helpful to watch over a few times. I will try out the new range, people tend to head to new things, so Portmarnock range should become all the better for it. Competition on their own patch!!

Bobby seems in the know all right, however his post is just about on the right side of informative and useful for the forum. I've given him a warning to be careful and again lets no overdo the glowing praise for any one business or individual. Sound like an interesting range though.

On the auto tees, they are useless imo. They just help you swing drivers like a fool for a while, you see guys in stepaside hit a bucket in 20 or 30 minutes and leave sweating buckets feeling like they have had a good session.
I'd much prefer they worked on some kind of skinnier tee system for driving ranges. You can't strike drivers properly off the fat tees imo, at least not the way you should be able to strike them to get the best launch.

I've never tried auto tees but I would agree it is better to hit fewer ball and concentrate on hitting them correctly. Maye skinniertees wouldn't last as long and thats why they are fat! I sometimes go down to the grassy area and use my own tees .

I apologize, I thought forums were for posting personal opinions and reccomendations? I must be mistaken.

I took two lessons from Paul Cuddy (it's almost 5 years ago now). He used a video system in the Portmarnock driving range (with 3 cameras) and recorded the whole lesson on video so you could take it home with you. The first lesson I found excellent as he covered two or three basic things I was doing wrong. It took about 6 months for me to get the hang of what he was talking about but it made a big difference.

The second lesson (a year or more later) was to try and figure out a particular problem I was having (I was pushing drives straight out to the right). That was less successful however as my push turned into a slice.

So I guess my opinion would be he is very good for a beginner looking to get the basics right. I would defer to better golfers than me to say whether he is good for the lower handicaps. Oh and you might meet him down at the school on voting day...

If you had been reading posts for the few weeks before you posted you would have seen a post which mentioned good old B***y a lot and was considered OTT by some . I think the timing of your post and the fact that first was your first may have given the impression that you might even be the man himself! I only commented on your first post in case someone thought it was me........by the way boards don't run any sort of alpha canine competition. Some post more than others ...........thats all IMHO.

absolutely Bobby. However you would be surprised at the amount of shills and spammers we get, the first letting on to be customers of a business and only ever posting praise of them, the second just blatant advertising. We keep a close eye to make sure we are getting actual personal unbiased opinion.

As I said you got a friendly warning as a one post user to be careful and that was it, you still have your posting rights. I don't know why you are trying to be a smart arse about it?

Had a few lessons from Paul Cuddy last year, he used to be the teaching pro at Portmarnock links. I found him really good, but like anyone else, you get out of lessons what you are prepared to put in.

I had a drive up to the new place the other day and although still under construction it looks to be everything the flyer said. As for automated tees, can't say it would bother me to have to tee the ball up myself. I will defintely use the place, 12 hole comps during the winter aren't my thing.

Mate of mine works for that new Kinsealy-Grange, from the sounds of it it'll be nice... Although haven't been up there yet.

The short game area is meant to be good, you can hit off sand, rough... Oh and he mentioned they have good balls and pretty much the best mats they could find. No automatic tees though...

He mentioned there was a bit of delay in openin but they were meant to open soon enough.

Not exactly re-inventing the wheel! Sounds like a copy of what they have down at the national academy in carton.

How do i get to the range near the airport? i'd be coming from castleknock direction. Is it usually pretty busy? Fed up of Elgreen and long waiting times. There's always Carton House... it's good but it's pretty expensive.

Personally, I don't have a problem with paying a little extra for a better product. No offence to the old range but the matts are old and worn, and the balls nothing short of damaging to golf clubs.

Site is looking good. Fiberbuilt Golf Mats is what they are using now. Any idea of a firm date of opening??
