I think that they're a pretty decent band, they have some good songs ( Basis Of Everything, Eustace Street).

Will have to listen to a bit more of their stuff to give an opinion on them really.

was actually talking to a friend of mine about an hour after I posted that message and he mentioned that on Funeral they call themselves "the arcade fire" but changed it to "arcade fire" on releasing Neon Bible, maybe they didn't need the "the" once they'd etablished their indie creditentials!

****e band.....like contrived watered down gang of four but not getting gang of four in the first place...lyrics are meaningless drivel....corporate post punk (contradiction?)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 221 ✭✭Bren_M.Records

Cant agree with you there Hypergasm, if anything I think their probably writing the best tracks of all the more mainstream bands on the go in Ireland at the moment.
I think Eustace Street in particular is a really great little song so fair ball to them I say.

I love Delorentos too, best Irish album I've heard in a long time! Seen them at ******, elec picnic and in whelans this year, there a great live band to top the album off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68 ✭✭pariko

Seen them live a few times; very tight and professional, one or two catchy songs, but overall extremely samey and boring.

I'd have to say the same, even though I'm related to one of them.

Not their fault really, but I also thought the engineering/production on their CD could have been a lot better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 91 ✭✭binhead

    Me no like, same old.

The world does not need another stripey jumper twitch band.

what did their fans think of them performing No Limits on Podge and Rodge.

It was with such sincerity and gusto.

Jebus Ghrist, It's Podge and Rodge, It's No Limits, Like, Have. A. Laugh.

    meh?

Saw them the other night, really tight and seemed to be bowled over with the crowd reaction.Nice support aswell.Good when they have a support act that isn't the same genre as the headline

It may have been 2:30 where you were and i'm sure you were all cosy after mumsy tucked you in and then you told her all about your great trip to see the delorentos and you can't wait for them to come back. There there son, calm down...

Your reply was actually more boring than your taste in music. Ha!

some people would say 'boring' is being immature and kinda b*tchy

    some people like me actually!

Maybe you could have expanded a bit on your comment, rather than posting a blanket statement like yawn.

What ground have you to remark on what music I make or listen to? The amount you know about my taste in music is the amount I'm bothered with your opinion.

If you would have the decency to back up your replies with a worthwhile opinion,it would make this thread more interesting than the flaming which will more than likely about to take place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,510 ✭✭✭sprinkles

he's probably one of the people who are into a band when they are relatively unkown but once they achieve "pop" accredation they all of a sudden are outdated!

Anyway, this band is very listenable-to, the album is nowhere near as good as their live performances and that is a big shame becasue they are fantastic live.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,075 ✭✭✭Denalihighway

i've heard that actually. I've neither heard the album (but heard all the single on radio) nor seen em live in fairness but they've a great live rep and are obv v hard workers so fair f*cks to em. Doing all they've done off their own bat is a fair achievement too. Though I've always been concerned for their longevity outside this island given their contemporaries in UK etc. The UK scene is overated but still, they're must be a hell of a lot of soundalike bands and many that may be better so exporting the music may be difficult. That said, I've know idea if they're even interested in the UK...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

They were on the Ray Foley show a while back on Today Fm and iirc they were going to be making a concerted effort to break the UK in the new year.

Personally I'm a fan - was one of my fav albums this year

The first yawn, was in relation to delorentos, they've been around a few years now, they were boring when they started, they still are. I have as much ground to comment on your opinon on a message board as i want. Same as sprinkles has to comment on mine. Although she is way off. Although her opinion was very presumptious.

This yawn is for having to reply to you yet again, i'm ending this habt now.

    Yawn.

I've searched the thread for a relevant or worthwhile comment from you man...not a sign. Can you not discuss stuff like normal people or do you have to belittle and try and bring people to a 10 year old level?

    for the love of god

give me a worthwhile thread and maybe i'll bother my arse. Also saying you don't like something is a worthwhile comment, how i've gone about it might not appeal to you or others, i don't really give a ****.

ok lordgoat, go on with your bad self! i'm feeling a bit christmassy now so i'll leave it alone :)

that said, you are right, there's been an awful shortage of threadage lately. we should set up thread about it.

    Yawn.

Firstly my post was a presumptious as you thinking I'm a woman.

Secondly they've been around for years on the road - small small gigs I might add - thier biggest breakthrough I'd say was the working class heroes - really set them up (Although they had a record deal at that stage). Anyway they are anything but boring on stage - which is all you would have seen for these "years" so I don't agree with your yawn.

Further to that a simple comment of "yawn" doesn't really explain what you then had to go back and explain. I think the problem with your post is that it didn't really say anything - and hence could be misconstrued as plain ignorance/arogance

Your second "Yawn" however was arogance.

Had a record deal? I thought they were still indie? A couple of the singles were definitely self-released.

They have formed their own label, Cottage Records to put out the album and the singles taken from it.
Im not sure who released their earlier singles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,075 ✭✭✭Denalihighway

doesnt that mean they're still 'indie' though since its their own label set up specifically to release their stuff? I get all befuddled as to what 'indie' means sometimes these days!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,049 ✭✭✭Driver 8

I think indie these days is tight trousers, scruffy hair, and songs with three chords or less :p oh, being in the bloody NME
