ok i just dont get why more ladies dont play. I'm female and i love the game, on line was great old craic in the tribecca days, admittedly not as much fun now you cant chat unless sat playing at the table, but fun none the less.

Live games are brilliant fun too, And to all single gals, to think of all those single men, (most young, hot and available) all trapped in the same room with almost zero competition :D .....get yourselves a tutor girls and get in there. A few pound to be had too when the boys have a few too many at the bar!
Jesus i just dont understand it. Or maybe the men like it that way?

because they are too busy in the kitchen

I agree. More women playing would be great, but sadly it seems around the 10% mark of players only are women.

It may also be because alot of men don't know what this is.

and in fairness the buzz when you win is unreal. Most of us gals are super competitive too! LOL at deodrant issue, and yes boys ..tis a small problem with some, but quantity (of men) does not ensure quality. It is a great way to meet new people too. And such a great laugh, win or lose

This doesn't sound like any live poker crowd I've ever played with in Ireland! Us boardsies do our best to bump up the average level of 'hotness' in any given room, be it the SE or Flannerys on a Friday night, but no-one could accuse the average poker player of being attractive to either sex. There's a reason so many of the men are available...it has more to do with Muso's reply than the constant late night poker playing, I'll warrant! :)

I fully agree with the idea of more women in poker, but only if they pass the 'as hot as the SE waitresses of one year ago' rule I have in my head. God bless the EU.

Picture this. A pride of lions are sitting around chewing the fat when a gazelle walks through there group. All the lions watch intently licking their lips waiting for someone else to make the first move. This happens every weekend in the jackpot when someone of the fairer sex walks in to a room. Imagine how intimidating this must be and then imagine roles reversed a room full of women doing this to you. Regardless of how confident you are, this would make you uneasy. I would like to see more women play poker because it is a very social game and in turn would bring more men to the game.

i have met few men in my life that will admit to another mans attractiveness or hottness for that matter. and most poker fields of around a hundred do come with some talent, ok you have a few scary, a few smelly and a few down right wierdos, but come on, a serious level of mid thirties play. most well educated and groomed and cuteness is a factor i have noticed ......possibly the 5 year itch? ;)

The Lions never bother their asses btw. The Lioness do all the hunting....

Women who play poker know mens asses are for kicking and their money is for picking. The good thing is only a few have figured that out. Now Sssssshhhhhhh. If you want to see other women join a bookclub. It's hard enough to play this game. WOMEN KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING, THEY ARE NOT FROM OUR PLANET. The good thing though is we can blind them away as they struggle to park.

    Hey

Have not much experience in playing poker myself but i have dealt a little and i find all the guys really nice.

And here is some advice to any girl who is feeling like a gazelle left to the lions.

I have found one line reduces even the hardest man to shakes.

Look him innocently in the eye and say

' I want to have your babies....... hey why are you running away ...come back .....damn men are getting faster...'

Uhm... can you give me directions to the place you play :D
I have only been playing a short time and been to one live tourney in Buncrana in Donegal, and got to say there were NO decent looking men to be found... I was one of two girls there and it was SUCH a relief to see her when I walked in the door! and there were a few drunk old men, so no, no talent in card rooms here heh heh.

One piece of advice I would have for any new player, be they male or female, if you are near a club or in Dublin/Cork for a weekend, pop into a casino. 99% of punters and staff are very friendly and only too willing to help out new or nervous players. If you don't feel comfortable for any reason then talk to a few of the staff, ask a few questions, and if you still don't feel right, don't play. It won't cost anything, but I bet most of the time, nerves will ease quickly and you can relax. Most players and all dealers (that I know, and I know a lot) are happy to help out and give helpful hints about etiquette etc at the table.

The tourney we were at was self deal, and I was lucky to be put beside a guy who guessed I was pretty new and kept me right. Mind you I played ok most of the time and went out in a real unlucky way, they all thought I would have made final table, but I cannot remember the hand that got me.... but it was sick!

Erm, hardly the same thing... Not that it would be my cafe con leche but there are quite a number of female footballers in Ireland. However it is apples and oranges as you cannot have mixed team for obvious reasons of differences in sheer brawn.

But there is one good comparison here and it is undoubtedly rooted in social stigmatism. Football / poker historically "Male only" areas. Given this the majority of marketing is geared towards men, nekkid bikini clad models and the like. Pink fluffy skinned poker clients from women (vomit).
Poker is then not adequately sold to the female market.

And sure why would it be when we are:

    Proven superior multitaskers
Proven to deal with stress better than our male counterparts

That would put the heebee jeebies up any prospective opponent :D
