Ooh great! I loved it back then. I think it's kinda pitiful for a person to watch it still if they watched it back then though - I mean, they'd be at least in their late 20s.

Watched Home and Away from the start but not sure about the legality of the download there. :/ I always remember those Italians who operated the store, they had a cattle that someone poisoned for some reason. Also mentioning Tom and Pippa, remember Tom decking some chap who was chasing Pippa. :)

Don't remember the Italians and the store. I'm the same age as Sally (Kate Ritchie) so i sort of grew up with her in a wierd parallel way (studied archaeology and became a secondary school history teacher!)

Anyway i remember when Tom an Pippa arrived in the caravan park, met floss and neville and the big house was all dark and dreary after Alf vacated it on the death of his wife (can't remember her name). I have really vivid memories of Frank and Bobby in the beginning in the City. I hope they release a 'best of' DVD of Season 1.

I was in secondary school when Tom died. I rememeber some upset girls the morning after he popped his clogs.

Oh Sweet Lord, I'm feeling old. Wasn't this pilot at same day as launch of Network 2?

Well if it wasn't the same day it was definitely around that time all right.

Could well have been. Can't say for sure though. Was that 1989? I don't think it started in Ireland until then.

It was the day after....Jesus 1988, I'm old......

Definitely started here in '88. We have a recorded documentary at home from 1988 and there is an ad for what's coming up the next day on Network 2 with a clip from Home and Away. They don't do that anymore. The clip features Lynn - remember her? She was a really popular character but left barely after the show started.

It was the first Monday in September 1988 I think. Didn't Lynn share a room with Carly who went on to marry either Ben or Greg who was in the army. Used to think Roo was a hot thing all the same b4 she disappeared off to New York I think.

Best moment was when pippa changed completly and nobody in the cast noticed:D

Carly married Ben who was indeed in the army. Ben was played by Julian McMahon from Nip/Tuck. Yeah, Roo was very pretty. Who knocked her up with her daughter Martha? Was it Frank?
Martha is in it now - all growed up.

two crazy moments in the soap, both in the early years, first already mentioned, when pippa changed over night, the second, think the characters name was steven, he was on trail for something, and a caption appeared at the bottom of the screen, '3 months later', you would think there were no other story lines happening at the time

I liked the old pippa better - she was much nicer.
I think it was 1998 when it started here also - I am also old as I remember it the first episode also. Happened to see it last week for the first time in years - same old $hit as back in 1998. Same school uniform and there is Sally - the pippa of the noughties still in pippas house with the foster kids and all their problems. Alf wasnt in the episode I saw though.
I had an old one on video where Bobby goes and meets her dad in jail and then in another episode she met him again and it was a compleely different actor. Id say he went where the old pippa went. and then somehow mr fisher ended up being her dad - how on earth did that happen again.
Those were the days - wasted youth.
Home and away and then ray darcy for desert on Joe maxi was it ?
I have some old home and aways from 1998 on tape also - the ads during the breaks are the best bits of those old videos.

    .

did mr fisher give her up for adoption, or the guy in jail was her step father,

    <unsure>

I hated Bobby...she was sooooo annoying. She was the rebel and then somone very nice who's real dad was the principle of Summer Bay High! She really annoyed me, I never liked her!

Of course, THE best Home and Away moment ever was when Bobby appeared in the fridge

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭robo

Mr Fisher didn't know about her, until she found out that Morag (Alf's evil sister) was her mother and Mr Fisher remembered or was reminded that they had "been together" way back!

Kinda more on the fridge though. I was expecting her to jump out of the jelly.

Whoops. I meant to type On the fridge rather than In the fridge. I don't think H&A's special effects people would have been up to the job of conjuring Bobby from some jelly.

No! Jo-maxi was at six just after the Den and then Home and Away at 6.30. :)

Man that was some crazy special effects for a 1988 soap. :p
That Bobby was fairly annoying alright though.

Another big clanger was the old Pippa lost a child (I think) cos she had a heart condition a few years later a new Pippa and a new husband Micheal have a child without and heart issues at all. Poor child then died of a cot death

Does anyone remember the slurping noises Roo and Frank used to make when they kissed. It was gross. I was 14 and anticipating my first proper kiss and I thought this was normal.

Anyone remember when Lance and Martin joined the army, Martin drove into town in a tank and ran over Ceilia's bike. :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Indeed I remember it well. Lance and Martin were goofy and lovable.

Only that scene was from 1995. You can download the whole episode from the link in the original post.

Anyone remember when Don Fisher got massive cracks in his house, same time that Megan used to live with him and she was suffering from some brain illness who eventually died of an accident like every other actor!

I remember that and then his house was destroyed in a storm. Shane and Nick used to live with him. Megan used to go out with Blake or was it Alan?
Does anyone remember Stephen's uncle Philip who was kiled when Celia's shop went on fire (he was going out with Carly i think)? Philip was a doctor as far as i remember. then Carly met the army guy Ben!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37,214 ✭✭✭✭Dudess

Ooh yeah, Philip! I thought he was so dreamy! Think he was married to a girl called Stacey.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,442 ✭✭✭Firetrap

Oh yeah, Philip. I remember being a little bit sad when he died. He was lovely. He never got to marry Stacey though - Dodge burning down the place put paid to that. Before she got engaged to Philip, she was going out with the future Aussie priest in Ballykissangel. No wonder that relationship was doomed!

I remember it been 3 weeks later, could be wrong. It happened when Steven had found out Dodge caused his Uncle's death in the fire and they caught him, it then skipped 3 weeks/months to the court case.

Megan used to go out with Blake or was it Alan?
It was Blake, think she died in his arms on the beach. He was back in it briefly a few times in the last few years with Sophie.

No way, this was the same time that Shannon (Isla Fisher) was in it.

Haha. Love the description of Selina as a horse-faced Celine Dion. That's exactly what she is/was :D

Rebecca Fisher. Now there was a cursed role for an actress to play. It was bad enough that they had to snog ugly hairy Travis but by a horrible coincidence, the two actresses who played her are dead. Belinda Emmett, the main actress who played Rebecca died of breast cancer last year. While she was on H&A she underwent treatment and was replaced for a while by another actress called Megan Connolly. She died of a heroin overdose a few years ago.

Revhead. Didn't he do something terrible on the show? Can't remember exactly what though. His non evil wheelchair bound sister was played by Naomi Watts who went on to better things. He went out with Blake's sister Karen who went from being a whiny cow to a really mean whiny cow.

Other old characters... remember Michael's son Haydn? He's a singer now - goes by the name of Charlton Hill. Also Tug O'Neal, Grant Mitchell, Adam Cameron, Dannii Minogue, Dime-ee-ann. Oddly, Emmerdale seems to be a refuge for old Home & Away actors these days with Marilyn and Dr Lachie livin' it up in the Dales :)

was she the one that nearly died when she drank a can of pop with a bee in it?

DOdge? I thought his name was Thug who burnt down the shop? Remember then they got the new shop with the turnstile but we rarely got to see past the counter. Sally got caught putting metal into bags of can collections for recycling to get more money!
Remember Selina, my God she was a hot thing when I was younger!! and remember Hayden! Who was the guy who used to be fostered by Irene and went onto be a priest, ahhhhhhh wasn't it Damien??
And wasn't Shannon Irenes real daughter??

We are sad, ye all realise that??!!!!!!!

I can't remember Sally's friends but I think one of them was Heath Ledger
Remember Viv, the girl whose father kept her under the stairs?

Wow, those characters all look so much younger than I remember them. I guess I'm getting old. :(

I am remembering, I think it was Damien (pre-dreadlocks) who was challenged to a fight with Tug and won!

    Tug:"He broke me flamin' nose!"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,442 ✭✭✭Firetrap

Does this explain why Tug always talked funny?

Was he not supposedly dead and came back into the series at one point (or maybe more than once)?

Dodge was sort of the H&A equivalent of Sherlock Holmes' nemesis Professor Moriarty. I'm not sure if he's officially alive or dead. Tug on the other hand went out with a girl called Sarah who had long black hair. I think he left to go work on her father's farm or something.
