looking forward to this for a while now. Sigur are one of the most under-rated bands around at the moment.

There was a piece about them on The Culture Show last night (may have been a repeat actually, it was pretty late).
Did anyone see the whole thing? I only caught the end of it.

brilliant stuff . There is a documentary on how they made it, I saw some of it on miro (the open source video player) . They say when they're making music they're just mucking about
there is a guy who does an rss on their gigs that shows downloads, acoustic etc.

Tower have a box set begind the counter, with 7 LPs on vinyl and a book all in a nice box... for anyone interested....

    It's quite expensive though...

Really looking forward to this as well. Hopefully their next tour takes them to Ireland. Best gig I was ever at was seeing them at Roskilde in a huge tent with 10,000 other people!

€250 for 3 albums, a single and a tour book?
I shelled out €50 for a limited edish Lateralus, but €250 for that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much

i presume thats the "in a frozen year" thing? i got my copy a few weeks ago and its a bit of a disappointment. the packaging is a major let down - its hard to actually turn the pages in the thing... but the pictures and the vinyl are lovely

I notice on the label that released the vinyl box set has the book available separately for $20 or something. I have the first two albums on vinyl already so I might just go with that.

Does anyone know if you can purchace the heima dvd (with the book) in normal shops or dya have to order it online?

Couldn't recommend Heima enough. Fantastic film, and the double album is wonderful

Can someone clear this up for me:
Does this come as a 2 CD boxset + a DVD?

I've checked amazon.co.uk and they seem to be selling it as either 2CD's or a DVD...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 421 ✭✭drrnwbb

heima = dvd (of the film) plus an extra dvd of extra footage. these two dvds are in both standard and limited edition package. (ltd edition included 116page booklet of pics from the tour and some fancy packaging)

hvarf / heim = this is a 2cd thingy. the first cd is called "hvarf" and this is basically recorded versions of songs that were only played live before. with "heim" giving six acoustic versions of songs that sigur rós had previously released on albums.

so the 2dvd and 2cd things are seperate.

Not everywhere has the book version in but you can get it in shops. Road Records on Fade St. got it in yesterday but it's pricey (€40). It's very nice looking though (haven't had a chance to watch it but having seen it in the cinema the urge isn't as burning as it should be).

In related news, haas anyone heard the Amiina album? They're 4 girls who are also SR's string section. The album is cool, lots of different instruments and nice sounds. It's called Kurr

Cheers for that, I was reading about it in one of those free papers and the impression I got from it was that it was 1 CD and 1 DVD in the one package.
Think I'll go for hvarf / heim...

Yes, it's beautiful. They played last week in The Button Factory and it made the album look like a pile of sick it was so gorgeous.

the DVD is especially wonderful, beautifully shot and great great versions of the songs in unique settings.. completely enchanting and inspiring all round.. love the shots of the audiences.. the booklet's photography is stunning too..
in terms of the CDs, i love the 'heim' disc in particular.. it seems they are writing acustically now too so who knows where that will go..
one thing i learned from the DVD commentary: the words 'massey ferguson' are used in the track 'héysatan' (the final track on 'takk..')!, the song's about the life and death of a farmer.. i hope i see this band live eventually, i didn't catch the ******* show damn it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 187 ✭✭the hero game

why was the venue of the gig censored??.. ah well..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

the words 'massey ferguson' are used in the track 'héysatan' (the final track on 'takk..')

the most interesting sigur ros fact ever!!!

So the dvd is worth it? Is it in stereo or 5.1?

Oh the prospect of hearing them in 5.1 is just mouth-watering (or should that be ear-moistening?)

the dvd is def worth it.. the tracks on 'heim' are taken directly from the performances on the DVD i think.. the performances are interspersed with beautiful shots, really beautiful, of iceland and there are lovely detailed slow shots of the audiences, and the chosen venues are interesting to say the least, including one in a giant fish storage tank.. the main film has interviews w. band members, including the string section, and the second disc has a lot of the footage used in the film but there's extra songs and different footage of the country used and slightly different visual takes of some of the songs..
i think 5.1 is definitely on it yep..

'Sigurrós' is also a fairly common name in Iceland.

It would be like an Irish band calling themselves 'Aoife', and then everyone laughing at how the rest of the world pronounce it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

yeah but aoife doesn't mean something cool like 'victory rose'.

*waits to be told that aoife means something deadly*

    According to the mighty Wikipedia,
Suggestions that "Aoife" means "radiant beauty" or is derived from the Irish word "aoibheann" (sweet) are ... not supported by any philological evidence.

Finally found Heima in Waterford on Sunday! Absolutely fantastic. The performance of Popplagio in Reyjkavik at the end is totally deadly. Typically lovely packaging as well, and the croquet footage is thrilling

same here JT!.. apparently they're the only 'english' words they've ever used.. maybe they'll mention a Honda50 in another song sometime :)
was listeinng to havark/heim last night while having a few beers and it's blowing me away.. threw on 'takk..' then w. headphones on and again i lived through it if u know what i mean, it's undescribable.. it has to be my fav album ever i think..
must savour the DVD again soon too.. will watch it many many times i'm sure.. check out heima.co.uk for more photos and stuff
