Was kind've unsure in the begining. I was one of those that didnt like Quantum Leap, found the whole premise infuriating to be totally honest.

I dont like drawing parallels between journeyman and Quantum Leap but they are there...

Still, I think for the most part, at least, Journeyman is way better :p

I quite liked the main character/actor, from Rome and he really holds the show together, imho.

The premise is interesting, and I like the way they have multiple jumps to different points. Cuts out alot of the crap that we got in Quantum Leap.

What I love about this show, is how clever it all is.

Dan (the main character) isnt a stumbling idiot that needs Al to guide him through everything. He works it out as he goes, thinks on his feet and says the right thing when its necessary...

To say that I'm really enjoying it, would be an understatement :D

first episode was the best, rest has been ok, didnt really get to pay attention to the 3rd there where too many people dont who didnt know what the show was about loits of talking to distract me

I didnt like the show at all. And I am a fan of QL. Liked the idea of this show but it was poorly executed. The lack of dialogue wasn't adding an air of mystery or confusion it was just plain annoying. I'll be steering away from this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

I am enjoying it,I like the concept and how it is done.

It has had a few additional scripts added but not the back nine. So we might get about 14-15 episodes before it is pulled. This is based on the ratings, which aren't very good at all.

I'm just watching the 3rd episode now and I still think its fantastic...

Have watched the first 3 episodes and so far so good. Liking the show a lot.

    Good work US fellas!

2nd episode was the best of them.. Kevin McKidd holds the show together!

1st episode was meh.. 3rd episode was decent but not great. 2nd episode had a lot going for it and was quite enthralling.

Definitely one of the better shows of the new season.

The end of the first episode sold the show for me, ill keep watching but its not as must see as other shows, i find journeyman has made its way to weekend watching along with chuck and reeper because we have been playing supreme commander lans every day for a few hours so only really have time for the 2 or 3 episodes a day

I've been enjoying the show immensly. It's perfect fodder for a lazy sunday afternoon. The concept is fun, and McKidd is excellent in the main role.

Episode 4 is one of the best so far, imho. Although they dont give you the usual
showing how the people he saved did some good in the world.
I expected the cop to catch some criminal or save the day somewhere but nada. I guess it was just their lives he was supposed to save...
    Still very good mind ;)

And a nice semi cliffhanger/reveal at the end when he
    gets the phonecall

Ye it was a good episode. Could his dad do what he does? The guy on the phone knew his father. He needs to be asking Liva more though. She time travels as well,so I assume that means she is in the present somewhere, but where? Where is she living, what is she doing? Unless she is stuck, hopping from timeline to timeline, from mission to mission. I can just see this show getting cancelled and these types of questions not being answered which would be very annoying!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Anyone keeping up with this show? personally I think it is the best new show this year. really enjoying it.

Pity it will probably be cancelled due to bad ratings.

The most recent episode was great.
We find out livia is actually based in the past and is sent to the future. She was sent to the 80's and wasn't sent back right away so she built a life, met Dan etc etc and then years later was sent back to '48. Interesting. Didn't guess that one! For what purpose though? To set Dan up for what was about to happen to him? Also like how Dan's brother has pretty much figured it out and that creepy professor definatly knows more than he is saying!

Lets hope if it is cancelled we get some sort of conclusion in the last episode. But with this damn strike, that seems less likely! :(

    I love this show.

The last episode really started to bring the storylines together. I hope it can survive as I'd love to see how it pans out

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 4,569 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ivan

Just managed to catch up to episode nine I think now, its gotten even better than it was from what I can see. A proper story arc, some character development and answers to some of the bigger questions.
I am begining to wonder about his dad though, I mean it is indirectly implied that he is related to the professor and through him, to the whole journeying/time jumping experience. But the one thing we've seen is that the time he spends in the past directly corresponds to how much time he is missing from his present. Therefore, Livia who spent several years in her future, must have been missing from 1948 for several years at least. Likewise, can we assume that his father may still be in a different time, living out his life essentially trapped somewhere.

Also, in the most recent episode
The cliff-hanger at the end, where he changed the past and the kidnapper/murderer is now out to get him and has found where he lives etc. Should get interesting :)

All in all, another good show to keep an eye out for. I am pretty fearful too, that it will get cancelled before its time, but hopefully sky can help pull in more ratings, if that might have an effect on its lifespan, so much the better ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,201 ✭✭✭✭Basq

The show is excellent.. but unfortunately it's pretty much dead in the water and looks like we won't even get a conclusive to the story either! :(

It's a real shame as there's plenty of other shows on air which don't deserve to be still on, yet excellent shows like this go unwatched! :(

Good interview with the creator posted on AICN today

Also enjoying this a lot. I am intrigued about where it will end up. Originally McKidd was my reason for watching it and I did find it slow in the first couple of episodes but since then the rest of cast have been equally up to the task, especially the lovely Gretchen Egolf. Very good ensemble work and great writing IMO. It would be a real pity to see it go.

Been enjoying it immensely myself. McKidd is excellent, he bring just the right level of bewilderment and wonder to the role. The ensemble are all spot on, each character has their own identity and story without taking away from the main story arc.

Shame it's unlikely that we will get to see it through to the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

Watched first 3 eps recently on Sky 1. The premise was slightly promising, but the writing/acting was absolutly dreadful[espically McKidds 'preformance']. Shame, great idea poorly executed.

Please say you're shi*ting me... McKidd's performance in the show is top notch!

I was apprehensive about this show at the start but it truly is one of the best shows of the season. I only really started enjoying it 3 - 4 episodes in and i'm hooked!

Have just started episode 10.. and betcha a tenner
this boy he's helping in 1980 turns out be Aeden Bennett. Seems a bit too obvious so i hope this isn't the case! But if it is him, i'll forgive the obviousness as the episode looks like being one of the most nerve-jangling yet.
    .

But how shocking was that opening!

Just watched episode 10, surely that cant be the end of it all?????

The arc had just started kicking in, fantastic episode.

Great show, pity it won't last. 12 eps filmed so we will get 2 more anyway. Ep 10 was very good,
turned out it was a young Bennet but I loved how it went full circle and what happened when he went back influenced what happen with Bennet in the house.

Loved how Dan's brother now knows for sure and his face when he saw Livia was priceless. It would have bene interesting having a cop help him with his investigations into people he tracks.

also interesting was the FBI agent's comments about making money from Dan's travelling and saying "They always need cash,it always trips them up". He knew there were others like Dan.

Just a pity all this plotlines won't be explored. If it wasn't for the strike we might have gotten a few more eps. However according to this article-

    http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=1&id=45801

We might get some sort of conclusion, which would be better than nothing I guess. Why do people watch CSI Miami over this show? It boggles the mind! It could have done a lot better if it wasn't up against a CSI!

After some doubts over the 12th episode even airing (NBC had trouble finding somewhere to fit in their schedule)... an exclusive from AICN who recieved this from Kevin Falls (the show creator and writer):
    Journeyman Fans--

NBC has decided to air the 12th episode ("Perfidia") on Wednesday, December 19th at ten o'clock. That means our 10th episode will air on Monday the 10th ("Home by Another Way"), the 11th will air on 17th ("The Hanged Man").

The decision to air the 12th episode had a lot to do with the passion of our fans through SaveJourneyman.net, the online petition and letters and emails to NBC executives.

And is it true you can vote once a day for the People's Choice Awards?

There's still no news on our long term future, but we can promise you this: three terrific episodes inside of ten days. Oh, yeah, and you'll get some answers, too.

Your comments and pro-active attempts to save the show are very much appreciated by me and my fellow Executive Producer Alex Graves, Kevin McKidd and the cast, writers and crew. But more importantly, it's working.

But don't rest. We need you. We want a back nine--and beyond.

    Thanks again,

    Kevin Falls
Excellent news that we're getting to see the final two, but in my opinion Mr Falls is ever-so-slightly delusional if he thinks they're getting a back nine!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

If jericho can get it! :p If not for the writers strike I think they might have gotten a back 9 but then be cancelled at the end of the season. You can't really under estimate fan power anymore,Jericho got extra episodes after being officially dead, and veronica mars got 3 seasons based on fairly bad ratings, mostly to do with the crazy fans! But ye,at the moment,it is fairly doubtful.

    Pity!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭iguana

At first I thought this show was cheesy melodrama, but kept watching as I thought it was a guilty pleasure. But no, it is actually very good. It has some very clever takes on the consequences of time travel too. I'll be very sorry to see this go, I'm off to visit the petition now.

I also really enjoy the theme tune, although that may be the novelty value of actually having a theme tune these days. And the use of music in the show is very good too, subtle but mood setting.

I really really want to see this show survive.

I had 5 episodes on the back burner and just had a catch-up weekend.

It seems like alot of loose threads were wrapped up in the last few (
Aedan Bennett, Jack now in the loop, snooping FBI guy no longer an issue
), so they can use the last 3 to answer some of the bigger questions, like the big "Why" hanging over the entire series.

I hope if it doesn't get a back 9, at least they give a reasonably solid conclusion to the series (like Daybreak last year).

Who knows? Maybe Moon Bloodgood can pull an Adam Baldwin next year, and have a "third time lucky in 3 years" series next year.

Roll on the last 3 anyway.... fantastic show.

A little update. Life took its place and did little better at least according to the Savejourneyman folks. The suggestion is, as Falls says himself that it is a time slot problem and of course H and his damned shades.;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Yeah, but lowest ratings so far last night don't bode well for the show.

Pity.... last nights episode was another fun one, but no major revelations, except perhaps the hint that
Dan's father might have had the same gift as Dan (hints from Dan's mother to Katie, saying "You're worried that he might leave one day and never come back" ... maybe Dan's Dad said goodbye because he knew he wasn't coming back from his next jump....

Good acting by Gretchen Egolf too.... Katie's
    mini-breakdown
    was well done.

    2 to go....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Last nights ep was pretty weak as well.

Hopefully the two eps next week give em no choice to but to commission more shows!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

    From Kristin @ EOnline:
Evening, tubers. I come bearing sad tidings: Sources tell me tonight that Journeyman has been closed down. No word yet on whether the series' final two episodes will air as scheduled next Monday and Wednesday on NBC, but we can all keep our fingers crossed.

Are you as bummed about this as I am? I miss Kevin McKidd already. Should Journeyman get a second chance after the strike resolves? Post your thoughts in Comments.

    :(:(:(:(:(:(

What a pity,if not for the writers strike I reckon it would have been given more of a chance to pick up the ratings. Lets hope the last episode gives us some kind of conclusion.

    Balls...

The writing was on the wall 6 weeks ago, so Kevin Falls reworked the last 2 episodes to give lots of answers and some closure.

Now we just need NBC to show them.

I got bored of this show. I mean it seemed too much like Sliders and Quantum Leap for me to actually get into without thinking, "wait? have I not see this before?"

Best part about the whole show is the iPhone features heavily.

It did get really good after ep 4. If you don't actually plan to watch anymore of it,basically
it turns out Livia is actually based in the past,1948,and she jumps to the future, and Dan jumps to the past and their missions are intwined. There was also a very good set of episodes where Dan changes something he was not supposed to,and it ends up putting his family in danger by changing the present

On the plus side, if NBC don't show them Sky will. They've paid enough for the series they will air it even if NBC don't. Hell, they even showed the last episode of Tru Calling.

Latest episode was a total mindf*ck! It shows what absolute genius this show can be if it was just given a bloody chance.

That first scene with Caroline sent a chill up my back. Unbelievable stuff ....

Ye what a great episode. I was waiting for an episode where he totally messed up the future more so than the Neil Gaines change. Having your son replaced with a daughter you don't know. Futuristic computers and paper with video on it :D Fun stuff. It was done really well.

Can't believe Bionic Woman is still alive and this show is not. Hoepfully we will get some sort of conclusion in the last episode.

Darko - thread title says "Spoilers", so there are plot points discussed here without spoiler tags. If you come here 2 days after a show has aired (before you watch it), then prepare to get burned :)

Its the same on every other [Spoilers]-type thread on Lost, Heroes, Prison Break etc.

If Episode 13 was the last episode of Journeyman, then I think they did as much as they could do in a series finale. I'm guessing everything in the episode was as originally intended, and the last 5 minutes (from the elevator onwards) was reshot. They hinted at a bigger picture, but there was some semblance of closure, and I loved the last scene - a fitting and memorable ending.

It galls me when **** reality shows and stale police procedurals are renewed year after year, and stuff like this isn't given a decent shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Excellent finale to an excellent series. Often TV shows just fall into a pattern and you end up watching through habit. This was one that grew and grew. IMO it was certainly one of the better ones of this season , if not the best.
Good quality writing and a cast that can act are all part of the mix that a lot of the rest of them miss out on. Here's hoping we'll see it again. ;)

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 4,569 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ivan

What bothers me is that this show is another Firefly. A quality tv series with some briliant acting, the potential for a fantastic story arc that could thrill people for 3-5 seasons but got/will get axed before its time. Its times like this that make me hate the general public :(

Just watched up to ep13 and I thought it was a really excellent ending. I wonder who the last Journey-person is though, thats pretty frustrating that we'll never know :p

Also, I heard it said that we'd see a culmination of all the people he saved/helped by the end of the season/series and either I missed it or it didnt turn up, bit disappointed by that :(

Really fantastic show and I must admit I kinda jumped for joy when I heard Bionic woman was axed too as it is a pretty naff show, but since I've been reliably informed that its not been cancelled but instead its just taking a break during the strike and while they shoot some more episodes... that makes me a sad panda :(

Great episode! And overall a great show despite its short run. It also really pisses me off when reality crap survives instead of quality tv.

The good thing is that we did get some kind of closure, the ending was nicely done and it really is a pity it won't continue. :(
