    they're fruit sugars.

    Use freshly squeezed (on the spot) if you have to have juice. Empty, unnecessary calories with none of the fibre benefits of wholefruit.

    Just eat an orange and have a glass of water instead. I used to shy away from eating oranges in work as I thought they were too messy. I've now seen the light and gotten into the swing of peeling them efficiently.

    Yeah usually, but be very careful these days. Lot of orange "drinks" are being stored alongside real juice in supermarkets. Lidl & Aldi started but now I see it in tescos too. They have a "healthy living" range that is just orange juice, sweetners, citric acid & water. Some are just 10% orange juice & sugar, so can have 10-11% sugar. So just always read the ingredients on the side.

    I think legally they cannot call this water down stuff "juice".

    I just eat the fruit and drink diet club orange for refreshment (or water!). Diet club orange is lovely and about 11% orange juice.

    I am very surprised nobody has found a way to remove the sugar from fruit juice yet, or maybe they have.

    Also mixing pure orange juice with fizzy water gives a nice refreshing drink

    And fruit sugar is diferent from 'ordinary' carb sugars in what way? You said in relation to me having more energy that protein regulates sugar. If you could expand on that i would appreciate it

    Thanks g'em

    Hulk, there's really no need to get into the minutiae of this, just stick to the basics. I don't mean that in an insulting way, I mean it in a "Take care of the big picture and the details will take care of themselves" way.

    As has been said, juice is 'empty' calories. It doesn't fill you up and isnt as nutritional valuable as wholefoods.

    Fruit sugars are fructoses, which are one of the three types of monosaccharide sugars found in our bloodstream (alongside glucose and galactose). It's lower in GI than sucrose and glucose but will still provoke an insulin repsonse. Protein doesn't regulate sugar, it just doesn't cause the same insulin spike, so it helps to manage your blood-sugar levels (not the same thing).

    Long story short:

    * eat protein at every meal.
    * get lots of good fats in your diet
    * make carbs unprocessed and from wholegrain sources.
    * exercise
    * stop stressing about the little things, it'll do more harm than good ;)
