    Anyone have an early word on new bundle packages? Is this reduced 60GB effective immediately?

    If HMV have that deal (with free 2 games/ 2 Blu-ray and extra controller) for €100 less then I'll be a very happy man. According to the HMV.co.uk, the reduced model is available to preorder this Wednesday. I'm highly confused, Ted.

    Prices are dropping by €100, buy a cheap 60gb while you can.
    Better still get a preowned 60gb PS3 for €350 in Gamestop!

    What kind of guarantee will that have do you know? are ps3's generally reliable?

    Gees, better than those early ps2's then which were terrible for reliability. I remember having to butter up the laser rails lots of times to keep mine and friends working! lol

    I know someone who had to bring his back on launch day because it was grinding discs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,688 ✭✭✭Nailz

    Well atleast Sony are quick to pounce on a particular problem, I've had my Xbox 360 since launch day and it has served no problems... but thats not the case for 33% of it's buyers anyway.

    I was looking at the second hand ps3's for sale in gamestop and they come with a 1 yr guarantee.

    That happened to me. But it was directly from the shop so just brought it back and got it replaced straight away so no big deal. With any product its possible to get a broken one out of the box that was damaged in transit or whatever - I think the big difference is that I've heard absolutely no instances of PS3s breaking down of their own accord after being used for a while, something which happened to me with three seperate 360s.

    To bring the conversation back on track, does anyone know if the Sony press release citing the "exciting new" backwards-compatibility-less 40GB models and newly price-slashed 60GB models "as stocks last" mean that consumers will only have one option shortly - the 40GB model? I'd like to return to the likes of Ico once in a while.

    Besides, when the PS3 launched they made constant references to the huge PS2 library of titles. The PS3's current 65-strong library only has a handful of worthwhile exclusives so the backwards-compatibility is borderline essential.

    Correct.

    The 60GB model with backwards compatibility will be gone in two(ish) months, and with it any chance of ps2 b.c. Sony Europe have said that no future revision of the PS3 will have backwards compatibility. Going, going, gone.

    Same here. Get the b.c. 60gigger while you can.

    I have to say the more I think about it, the less appealing the console is without backwards compatibility.

    I had my brothers ps3 for a few months while his house was getting done up, & the vast majority of the time I was playing ps2 games.

    is that actually worth it? considering youll get a 100% brand new 40gig one for €50 more like?

    debating getting one at the moment

    How much are the 60GB models reduced to now? Where's the best deals to be had? Usually buy my games consoles in Smyths because they usually have good package deals but can't see anything on their website.

    anyone confirmed with stores that the prices will be reset tomorrow or will they try flog them at the old price to a few more unsuspecting mothers

    Out of interest where are they getting pre-owned PS3's from and is there any risk in buying one of these do you think?

    Thanks

    Was in Smyths yesterday and overheard one of the staff saying that the 60GB bundle will not have the extra controller so it's only going to be a 50 euro saving on the 60GB bundle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭anotherlostie

    There seems to be very little idea of what bundles will be available in store tomorrow? I'm surprised at how low key this is, or are Sony holding back the bundles til closer to Christmas?

    Going from online UK Retailers:

    GAME is offering the 60GB with 2 games (either F1, Heavenly Sword, Resistance or Motorstorm)

    HMV Seem to be offering the 60gb with 2 games and Spiderman Blu-Ray Movie (games are either Motorstorm, Resistance or Heavenly Sword).

    If these are the same here in Ireland then the HMV one seems to be the better offer.

    Thanks for that Vortexx. I'm afraid I only have an hour to do my shopping tomorrow before two whole weeks without a day off. Keep the deals info coming guys. Cheers.

    Anything on Gamestop or Xtra-Vision yet? Xtra-Vision are usually best from trade-ins, so I'll probably get mine there.

    gona pop up to tesco at midnight to see if the price has swapped over

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭Vorrtexx

    Johnny, Do Tesco have Bundle packs also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭johnny_adidas

    will know in about 2 hours and 9 mins

    whag about the 80gig model?

    Is that gone for ever as well

    :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭Vorrtexx

    I think the 80gb model was only in USA and Japan. Europe usually gets shafted by most of these Console manufacturers ;)

    Virgin in England are doing the following deal

    PLAYSTATION 3 60GB 2GAMES + EXTRA CONTROLLER £296 @ VIRGIN

    seems good but hopefully Ireland will follow suit

    was in my local xtra-vision last night and they had as many 40gb PS3's as they had last march for the "normal" launch. boxes all over the back area...

    Just rang Game...

    New PS3 60gb + 2 games for 499 (RFOM or Motocross plus another).

    Used PS3 60gb 429.

    Keep the info on the reduced 60GB's coming, might head in at lunch time :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 440 ✭✭teamdresch

    Oh, and any bundles with two controllers?

    Apparently Sony have removed the second controller from the bundle pack :mad: Both Game and Smyths are not giving the extra controller as of today. So in essence, the 60GB value back has only been reduced by 50 euro. :(

    Xtravision (from signs on windows - 599 for console, 2 release title games and 2 controllers)
    Gamestop (499 for console, 2 release games, controller and €100 of vouchers)
    tempted by gamestop deal but gona head to smyths after work this evening cos they usually have better game deals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 440 ✭✭teamdresch

    Hm. Gamestop sounds good.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 15,239 Mod ✭✭✭✭FutureGuy

    Gamestop...
    PS3 60gb + 2 games (launch titles) for 499. Didn't hear anything about a book of vouchers, but I tend to stay away from them. It's normally voughers for games you can get way cheaper online anyway.

    This 499 deal seems to be the deal going everywhere.

    I'm interested to see what Virgin/HMV are selling them at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭Vorrtexx

    Smyths have updated their website with the new PS3 Value Pack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 643 ✭✭✭cgc5483

    Was just in Gamestop as well.
    €499 with either Resistance or Motorstorm and 1 of Genji, Ridge Racer and F1 plus €100 of vouchers.
    For €529 they had the same as above but with a blu-ray disc and remote.

    HMV: €499 but no details. Asked the guy behind the counter what was bundled but didn't seem to have a clue and was saying it was just console!

    Interesting that the value packs are 499, as on the continent. Usually Ireland adds a few euro on top of the RRPs. Will the 40GB actually be 399 instead of 420 or 430?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭johnny_adidas

    anyone spotted any good deals on the 40gb version yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 643 ✭✭✭cgc5483

    HMV had then for €399 with 2 Blu-ray discs or €419 with 2 Blu-ray discs and hdmi cable.

    That's pretty good. I wonder why they're not adding to the price as is usual with consoles here. Ps3 was 599 on the continent, but 630 here. Ditto with 360 I think.

    wish my boss would head off to his meeting so i can go get mine

    got one anyway. went back to xtravision to check the price and its 499 with 2 games, one controller and about 30 €1 rental vouchers. said feck it and got it there instead of going all the way to gamestop. plus id be more likely to use the xtravision vouchers than buying stuff thats overpriced in gamestop anyway.

    Nice one, What choice of games did you have from Xtravision? Is it the same as all the others (Resistance or Motorstorm) and (F1, RR7, Genji)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭johnny_adidas

    yep exact same ones. think they are doing an offer though of trading those 2 games in for a new game instead. reckon ill play these until Pro Evo is out and swap them then if im bored with them. luckily im headin to New york later in the month so ill pick up a few games cheaper while out there.

    just twiddling my thumbs now til 1 so i can have a few games. its like being a kid at xmas all over again

    If I were to buy the 60GB from Smyths or Gamestop, which games would you lot recommend:

    Special Games Offer
    Choose 1 Game from either:

    * Resistance Fall Of Man
    * Motorstorm

    and 1 Game from either:

    * F1 Championship Edition
    * Genji
    * Ridge Racer 7

    I'm thinking Motorstorm and RR7. Not really fan of RPG. F1 any good?
