Evening all, I went fairly out of shape during the leaving cert and have decided to try and get back in the game, I started to take up boxing which I really enjoy, part of this involves going to the gym and a guy there reccomended taking a protein shake to make sure I'm getting the right amount, he reccomended Whey Protein.

Would anyone be able to give me the name of a brand that's reasonably priced and tastes allright?

If it matters, my details are that without shoes I'm 5'11, 138.6lbs and 4,3% body fat.

4.3% bodyfat? And you went out of shape? Are you sure you have that right?

Yeah, that's what I was told when I joined the gym. I had a bit of muscle gained, but I lost it over the examination period/summer.

I have a fairly high metabolism, so it wasn't outta shape as in getting fat but more losing whatever I had put on before.

I'm no expert, so I could be wrong, I just felt a lot more unfit after the holidays and all.

I honestly don't think you need a protein shake at your height and weight. Just get eating loads, as often as you can , protein with every meal etc. read the stickies to help you out.

If you're set on getting one then I like NutritionX's protein.

I really don't think you need a protein supplement at your weight and level, but if you want to get one, I'd recommend Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey. It's well priced, especially if you buy it in the shop on Capel st. on the first sat of the month (20% off day). It tastes great with water or milk and it mixes really easily, unlike a lot of the protein thats on the market.

How much does Nutrition X usually cost?
Or should I but it online?

Big whey from nutrition x is €65 for 6lbs from pronutrition. You can order online from www.pronutrition.ie but there are also some supplement stores you can buy it directly from. Personally i would recommend Mickk's store on camden st (the supplement store) or pro-nutrition in phibsboro, both guys post on here a bit and are really knowledge and sound. if you are unsure maybe pop in and have a chat with someone in the shop.

Does the type of Whey really matter. Surely that cant be much difference from the stuff i buy in Holland and Barrentg and the overpriced Maxi Musle

Can any one comment on the flavours of Nutrition X - Big Whey.

I've tasted Choc Mint (nice) and Strawberry (ok)
Im tempted to try Berry blast but have a funny feeling it'll taste crap.
    Any thoughts??

    I got BigX.
    berry flavor
    Tastes grand

I'm a picky eater but it does me fine, I won't lie. It doesnt have a taste that'll make you get yourself a shake at all hours,

but it has a pleasant enough taste, slightly bland though.

I tried maximuscle progain, vanilla before
    Awful awful stuff
    made me wanna puke.

Progain vanilla is a crime against nature. Was the first supplement I ever got, thankfully it didn't put me off the rest.
Ya think I'll give Berry Blast a go, sure when your throwing it back what does it matter!

Maximuscle Progain chco is the single worst tasting supplement that I've ever come across.

Choc mint is great, although my favourite is BerryBlast definitely.

I doubt it will be a popular opinion though.

I love progain chocolate. too much - used to drink the stuf when i didnt need to. Guess it goes toshow that taste really personal!

Generally, I have found that choc is the best across all brands. I dunno - maybe its just the hardest one to get wonrg! Strawberry usually is a safe bet too, but can be very sweet. I have yet to find a vanilla flavour whey that didnt tast awful

So NutritionX's stuff gets a thumbs up? I'm pretty picky when it comes to taste, really likes On 100% Whey (Choc Mint and Vanilla) but strawberry is pretty crap. On N-Large 2 now, strawberry is nice!

Pro-X choc mint is lovely with milk. Yummy.

Pro-X Vanilla is....ok....in porridge. Goes well in smoothies.

Choc mint with milk tastes like a liquidized aero bar:p
