yeah, he wants to fight Hopkins next January or Feburary in Wales.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭theone

I think it's too late for hopkins would of loved to see those two fight when they were in their primes.

I think Calzaghe will beat kessler and other than hopkins theres not much else out there for joe so i guess it's him.

Joe on points and hopefully he won't break his hand again. Would love to see Joe get his superfight but who is out there for him?

Maybe go way up and fight Enzo for the craic if he can't get anyone else. Welsh superfight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 362 ✭✭theone

should be a good fight think joe will win it,be nice to see rees fight, skelton going to do the heavyweight division proud again i see :)

Haye to beat mormeck and haye to move up,hopefully an exciting heavyweight fighter it needs a shot in the arm the lighter weights are king nowadays.

Is there nobody of the opinion that Kessler has a very good chance of beating Calzaghe?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 404 ✭✭Bernard Hopkins

yeah,....... Kessler by TKO : 4/1 ladbrokes.

I wont remorgage the gaff or anything,... but i do believe Kessler has a great chance , against the piff, paff, pattering Joe Calzaghe and his over-hyped media coverage, with his dodgy hand , zimmer-frame and colostomy bag.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,001 ✭✭✭Big Ears

Kessler is a very good fighter , a true elite who wouldn't be an easy fight for anyone(except maybe Jones) from 160-175 in the history of the sport .

But I have to admit I believe the hype as regards Calzaghe , the speed of both foot and hand , reflexes , punch output(slap output;)) are something special at the weight and I think he will have too much for the Dane .

Calzaghe fights best on the big occasions , Lacy and Eubank(which at the time was a great performance from a young pro) and this is another one of those big occasions .What I love about Calzaghe is he suffers from Nigel Benn syndrome , if a guy catches him with a good shot or even worse hurts him he'll go into a frenzy .

I reckon this goes the distance and I think Calzaghe wins a close enough fight 8-4/7-5 but in no way controversial .

Bute , Mudine , Froch , Inkin , Braehmer probably can't wait for the outcome of this fight , either one of them gets the big shot afterwards or the titles fragment and a few of them get shots at a title .

I fear Kessler will stop Calzaghe inside 5 rounds.

I'm going to this fight as well. I've got a question that you guys might help me with.

It states on the fight schedule that the Main event is scheduled for 1.30 am. This seems very late to me for a fight in Britain. Is this the norm but due to KO's and stoppages during the undercard the fight always ends up being earlier (approx 11/12) or is this the time the fight will be at?

Havent been to an event like this before so I'm not sure.

Hoping it isnt that late cos we were hoping to hit the pubs afterwards!!

The fight won't start till that time , late starts like that are common enough in Britain and the reason for them is American tv .

HBO will be paying the most money for this fight so they set the time , they won't want the fight starting anytime before that as it would be way too early in the US(the fight is early enough as it is for them without starting earlier) .

Whatever happens on the 11 fight undercard(which I would try to see as much of as I can as there are some decent prospects on it even if the fights are mismatches) the main fight will start at 01:30 to suit HBO who as far as I'm aware are only showing the Calzaghe fight .

    Cheers Big Ears :D

Thats a bit of a pisser, we had a big night out in Cardiff planned after the fight!

Don't worry about seeing the undercard, we are planning on soaking up every single minute of the event!

It's to prevent people coming in far too pissed having been on the lash before coming in . It was done for Hatton v Tszyu and Calzaghe v Lacy too and although I can see how that'd be annoying it's a right decision . We don't need fuelled up drunks(not saying you'd be one) fighting in the crowd .

I wouldn't chance it to be honest , would be such a waste if you couldn't go in .

Can't see a problem with stopping people coming in after 10.30. when bouts start at 7.30

I'm sure there'll be plenty of places to have a drink in there...

It's not ppv , a subscription to Setanta is all that's required :)

Won't be so happy when Mayweather v Hatton comes round , they're going to charge us the equivalent of £24.99 on Sky Box Office .

Mohamed Azzaoui fights Enzo Maccarenilli tomorrow night,......

    his boxrec entry :http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=096251&cat=boxer

he only fought a few weeks ago,... so he could be in reasonable shape ???

Ladbrokes offer 25/1 for Mohamed Azzaoui to win by TKO .
So he's not highly rated by the oddsmakers........ personally I love to see a fairytale upset !! I'll look forward to this one.

What a night of boxing ,.... as soon as this finishes the J.M.Marquez -Rocky Jaurez card is up , featuring -Bob the ghost v hungry contender, and the likes.

Eddie Chambers v Calvin Brock on tonight @ 4am , will turn my weekend around to gettin up late and stayin up till 6 in the morning.

Yeah , was surprised @ Calzaghe Kessler being on so late, could end up being more like 1.30 - 2 am . Just noticed the Bookies are taking bets till 1.30 am on this one.

Prepare yourselves for a completely LOB-SIDED commentry.

Setanta commentators seem to be so biased towards Brittish fighters.
I can understand it to a point, their job is to raise the excitement levels of the viewers !!
But ffs , the boxing analysts shouldnt have their noses up anybody's ass.
just watching the Lacy bout earlier, nuff said.
