Weight is not a great measure and either is BMI.

At your weight you could be overweight and at the same time you could be a super-fit rugby player or incredably strong like a labourer or a fireman.
You gave very little information so how are we supposed to know.

What your bodyfat ratio as that's a good measure.
This is the wrong forum for your questions, maybe fitness?

I'm 6ft and 13.5st and consider myself overweight (my belly confirms this). 13 stone at 5'7" should make you pretty much overweight and visibly so as well in my opinion.

But that's only going on my perception. If you're full of muscle you aren't overweight but you know your own body. If you're weight is mostly fat then you're overweight as far as I'd concerned but then hey, I bought my doctors certificate off the internet so what do I know :P

EDIT: Fitness forum under rec is a much better place to go about weight, health, fitness etc.

    Just my 2c,

Going of your username i am assuming your a bloke. anyhow are you happy with how you look? If not then do work towards a physique that you want. Dont pigeon hole yourself into a certain weight category. as others have said there is loads of info in fitness on weight loss and in the new nutrition and diet forum (under rec- food and drink--)

there is no weight that people should or shouldnt be.
Ive met very very healthy people, that would be classed as obese by BMI. Im usually obese myself around xmas. At 5'10 i can weigh upto 15stone, but never over 13%BF and still run a charity 10k on stephens day every year under 45mins.

    So it really varies.

The best advice is go over to the fitness forum and read all the stickies there. Lots of good ppl and info there.

The difference between being of a healthy weight and being healthy are hugely different. You could be bang on what BMI defines as healthy and be a big drinker, big smoker, and a crap eater getting no good fats or fruits/veg.

Dont go by BM,I its very misleading

I'm assuming you're a guy. I'm a guy, I'm 5'6" and I weighed about 10 and 3/4 before I started going to the gym and now I'm 11 and 1/2 stone. I'm classed as overweight by BMI, but its alot of muscle. So I'd say that unless you work out a lot you could be boardering on obese.

I'd say that ideally you shouldn't be more than 11 and a 1/2 or maybe 12 stone tops if your a guy and you dont work out.

Right, my BMI is now 26.4. I'm a 5 foot 10 bloke, weighing in at around the 13 stone mark. I have been told I'm slightly overweight. Unlike most of the posters here, I think it seems to be right on the money. But that is only in my case, naturally.

I'm 5'8" and 11.5 stone, all signs (as in body fat %, BMI and the fact I look a little chubby) point to the fact I should probably weigh closer to eleven or maybe 10 and a half. However I'm a girl, and my boyfriend who's not drastically taller than me but roughly the same weight, looks a little underweight.

My advice, look at your body type and try to find one of those machine's that will measure height, weight, BMI and body fat index. While they're not the most accurate thing in the world (especially if you're the muscular type) They can give you a rough idea of where you stand. If you have a bit of a belly that's usually a sign you're carrying excess fat. :)

If you are a guy you should weight about 75kg for your height.

If you a girl you should weigh about 60kg.

I would think that unless your a body builder that closer to 65KG would be a healthy weight for about 170cm (5'7" tall) - have a look here for suggestions

I'm the same height and am aiming for a lean (six pack) 60KG..but thats a fair distance away currently ;)

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

    I'm 5'10 and 15.25 stone. (97kg) Go obesity!!!!

BMI is junk. I'm really not that far away from a true six pack. I reckon if I was 93-94kg I'd have one.

I train with a guy who's no more than 5'5 and weighs in about 65kg and is awesome shape with a good six pack.

Having an "ideal" weight for everyone just isn't gonna happpen. We don't know how big or dense your bones are for example. Or what your skeletal structure's like.

I guess somewhere around 70-75kg sounds about right tho?

I think most people would agree with you, I prefer to go by body fat %, but I think most people should go by the way they look after all bf can be stored differently from person to person

The average person will have BMI measured more accurately than BF. Also the vast majority of people are not carrying excess muscle so BMI is not as skewed as it is for people who do weight training.

Hip to waist might be better for the average population. BMI is not amazing but better than nothing for most.

And as I was saying in another thread some people do want a measure and the mirror is no good to people with mental problems about their own body image- they might think they are too fat or too thin- but if a figure can show they are in the top/low 1% of the population they might wake up to reality.

A doctor who tells a bodybuilder he is obese is an ignorant fool and should be struck off the register in my mind- woefully negligent and dangerously ignorant of the tools he has in his use. They could be making similar misdiagnoses due to inaccurate use of other tools they are blindly using- and other mistakes might not be as blatantly obvious.
