A number of certain websites a visit in a regular basis are now blocked by 3 like www.funnyjunk.com (work safe).

I am brought to a 3 page sayung "this website is unavailable" with links to Services, Internet, Check Balance, etc.. even thought the website is up and available.
I am age verified and I have mobile broadband credit.
I have noticed alot of websites with adult content, (not necessary porn) are blocked also.

It works for me when I use Opera Mini. The planet3 browser is just cack tho. When I tried to get the funnyjunk page to open it lead me to a totally different site with a list of search functions.

Have they possibly done something to block installing applications via their browser as well now. I just got a replacement E65 through today but on trying to reinstall various application like Opera, Gmail and Google Maps so far it keeps on coming up with an "Invalid Jar File" error message. One of the Opera versions that I tried to download did seem to download but was them opened by Notes rather than the Installer application.

While I don't approve of them censoring your browsing, perhaps this is quality control ;)

    @ robinph
You need to call them up and get them to re-provision your account. Got invalid jar error messages before, called, lost the rag and eventually got them to "reset" my mobile b/band and credit me for the month it was unusable. Everything is working fine now (touch wood!). No error messages, downloading fine etc. I'm on pay monthly so I don't know if its similar for prepay. Worth a shot though. Call tech and ask to speak with a floor manager directly.

They've been blocking a fair few sites since the 17th. I'm pretty annoyed about that.
Tinytube for example, is only accessible through opera mini but the videos don't download because that's done through the normal browser.

There's another mywaves video site that's blocked too. I've noticed a few others too that all worked before the 17th.

they are a joke, half of the stuff i visit doesnt work....(ahem)...! seriously, its just tampered with so much now, its nearly not worth it, why did they block msn ffs.

i am going to cancel my ultd bb next month.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,464 ✭✭✭Kristok

I canceled my bb today while its great having it on the move all the blocking of sites and ports is just plain pointless. Im paying for the internet and im over 18 being censored is just not worth paying for. If im desperate to use it 49c per mb will do me fine till i start hearing they sorted their crap out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

Can't say I blame you Kirstok, I feel like doing the same thing myself.

Yeah i can get to it too but i couldn't the other day so maybe they unblocked it or maybe they're not purposely blocking anything and its just their messing with the network combined with their incompetence that keeps blocking sites

I've been complaining about tinytube being blocked for some time now. They always insist that they block nothing at all, not even adult sites.

I think they are trying to block sites which use alot of bandwidth.

As tinytube is blocked and I can't get streaming to work for more than three minutes I have decided to change from X-Series gold to mobile BB 100 as their idea of unlimited is very different to mine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,916 ✭✭✭podgeandrodge

    On this subject...

Can anyone get Youtube videos to stream on the N95 (or other phone) with 3?

My realplayer comes back with "invalid url address" for any video i try to play.

i cannot acess it with opera browser or the build in browser on the Nokia N73.

i'm using x-series silver and for the last number of weeks almost all ports have been blocked and any website attempting to show human flesh also. however, as of yestersday these restrictions have been lifted. anyone else able to access the full internet now?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭h57xiucj2z946q

funnyjunk.com still blocked for me today along with all ports accept http/https

Vodafone are doing it now too. I can't access YouTube because I'm not age verified.

just a suggestion but couldn't people
switch to vodafone till three get themselves sorted out?

    Access Denied (policy_denied)

Your system policy has denied access to the requested URL.

For assistance, contact your network support team.

Look familiar? Happens randomly on the following websites:
    komplett.ie
    my.yahoo.com
    google.com <--wtf

this is a joke, 80% of sites dont work for me, hardlt anything. keep getting

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

    Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

    What you can try:
    Diagnose Connection Problems

    More informatio

or the one in the previous post.

    what a joke.

i emailed them and toldd them stop billing me for this and send a refund.

    shower of cnuts.

I got that policy denied error a few times earlier. I thought it was the stuff i was accessing. Apparently not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,451 ✭✭✭Onikage

This has happened before (theregister.co.uk used to be blocked a fair bit) but seems to be much more frequent this weekend. There doesn't seem to be any obvious pattern to it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,373 ✭✭✭✭foggy_lad

got that access denied but some tech guy i got after 90mins got it sorted in two mins! but they also gave me 100mb free mobile BB but are still charging me for Broadband grrr and cant access broadband at all on other phone or send/recieve mms messages and thats most likely due to age verification issues!! AGAIN I CAN ONLY CALL THEM COWBOYS!!

    Hi Guys,

I'm open to correction but I don't necessarily believe that 3 are blocking specific sites. I believe the problem is due fundamentally to congestion on their network and consequently, under configuration.

They have a limited number of Public IP Addresses allocated to them which they must be NATing and dynamically allocating internally. This specific rule looks like a block firewall / proxy rule. However, what I have noticed is that if I stop the query for the website and then refresh it - it seems to come up straight away. Also, even when this rule does appear a refresh most of the time gets me through to the site.

i've also noticed severe delays in their DNS servers... If i ping a site and get its ip address and use it instead of the DNS name - almost instant reply.

I wouldn't be too hardd on their tech guys because realistically it's out of their hands. 3 themselves need to purchase more address space, servers, routers etc and build/configure the back end correctly.

    osmethod

thats all most likely true and you can surely understand people getting heated etc after holding and arguing for hours at a time with indian men and women we can barely understand and all this while trying to understand why they are blocking services?

so if the bus stops do we all get out and push??

I agree with you foggy.... 'twould drive you fsckin mad to say the least... I've had my own fair share of listening to sh*t from 3 myself.

I wonder at this stage is O2 any better? It's a pity some legal minded individual wouldn't review 3's contract to provide broadband services in Ireland. If we are bound to 12 months then they must be bound to some minimum requirements of service.

At the moment, they have the worst configured network I have ever experienced... if only, if only...

If you use a 3 Ireland mobile for internet in Northern Ireland, it seems to be alot quicker and less crashing.

its due to a lack of servers mainly, they didnt expect to sell so much so fast, and system is completly saturated! they are playing catch up... can they create servers faster then sell... and they started off a huge gap behind!

they knew the services would be swamped with new customers all using their service to its max so they coulda and shoulda been much better prepared for the "gold"rush

The sites I mentioned never work. It says the web page is unavailable and it is definitely blocked.

I haven't come accros the access denied warnings, they could be a different phenomenon altogether.

You can get access to any site you want on Opera Mini if you are using an N73.

My issue is that in order to download something off tinytube, it switches from Opera Mini to the Nokia Browser which then blocks tinytube.

I was having great craic in the past downloading .3gps and bluetoothing them over to my friends.

Pronunciation of a customer service agent's name or even the call centre being in India is not relevant.

The fact is they are not trained.

You could have a call centre in Sandyford and not train the staff properly and you'd get the same result as 3 have at present.

That is the whole point - Opera Mini is using a proxy over port 8080, that's why it can gain you access to other pages than those blocked by the main Nokia/Netfront etc browser.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,611 ✭✭✭✭Sam Vimes

That would explain why i could use the built im browser last week while opera kept failing to connect but i did a quick google and it seemed to indicate that opera uses port 80. Are you sure it uses 8080? Or is it both?

If you look in the Help menu in Opera Mini, you can see the proxy path used, in the bottom of the page, after the kb count.

I went in there and it says its using port 80. http;//beta.opera-mini.net:80/ to be precise

My mistake.. Mine also says port 80 ... But I am sure I have seen it said 8080 before. Strange.. Maybe it rerouted now after I did a network setting update since 3 updated their data service.

Yeah, that's exactly what happens to me. A good few video sites are blocked and since that switch is made for downloads it makes them obsolete.

I therefore go nowhere near 100MB now.

I cannot download Opera mini, keeps saying Invalid JAR, no matter what version I try to downoad. I have the full Opera 8.65 on my phone tho.
