Never thought I'd be posting in this forum but was just wondering what people's opinions of Aqua Aerobics is? Very unfit at the moment, started WeightWatchers last week with quite a lot of weight to lose and having lost 6lbs in the first week I'm keen to keep trying. I was thinking AA would be good partly because it's low impact and also it appeals to me more than going out for a walk. Can't afford to join a gym, and know I wouldn't go as would be kind of intimidated, but think the profile of an AA class is one I'd be more comfortable with. Is it worth it or should I just give swimming a shot? In my final year so don't have an awful lot of free time, will prob be once a week most weeks maybe 2 the odd week. Thanks

All I can say is that it was a good idea posting in this forum. Your bound to get some good advice. May I suggest reading the stickies. Gyms are cool by the way. People who are there most often are serious about what they are doing and realise you have to start somewhere so don't be intimidated by them.

Any activity that you enjoy is the best excercise for you. I would recommend giving it a shot and seeing if you like it.

Just an aside but i found last year when doing my masters that excercise really helped me to focus and get the work done, it really does help your academic performance IMHO.

    Hi angeldelight,

I think it is a great idea to do AA because its low impact and it can be really good fun when you get into it and you can do it at your own pace.
    Best of luck with it.

    Hi there,
I think its a great place to start, but after a while, you'd probably need to move onto something more strenuous. I found the couple of classes I did before were very sedate, but would be great for someone starting off though.
If you're serious about losing weight, then you should try become as active as possible - I know you're short on time, but could you walk/cycle to college and get some extra excercise that way?

Thanks for the replies... think I will give it a shot, probably next week now though cause I've a horrible cold. I couldn't really cycle or walk to college, living in Maynooth and in college in town. I think if I can lose the first bit of weight with AA and weightwatchers then when I was a bit smaller I'd feel more comfortable joining a gym. Don't even really want to walk around here either cause don't want people to see me all red-faced and sweaty... silly I know but when I'm a bit happier with my body shape I'll probably move on from the aqua aerobics
