Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Moving Out Of Dublin--Get me out of here quick!!!!

    Okay,

    Looking for advice. I am sick to my eye teeth of living in Dublin OR ANY city for that matter. I have gotten to the point where I just cannot handle the endless crowds, ridiculasly high prices for EVERYTHING, concrete and rubbish everywhere etc etc.

    I want to move as far away from "modern"society as possible. Open fields , beautiful scenery and peace and quiet. Somewhere where I can go walking and actually ENJOY not breathing the stale city air.
    Just to clarify, Im 23, and yes I do like to go out (rock,trad goth,80s, and irish trad) but I can commute back up to Dublin once every 3 weeks or so for a visit and go out then, so nightlife is not so important.

    I am looking into moving to some remote part of the West and looking for suggestions. Where is the most untouched, scenic, beautiful and remote place you can think of for me to move to???? Suggestions folks. Dont suggest a city please.

    Parts of Connemara are very isolated, and north west Mayo on the Bellmullet Peninsula is pretty sparsely populated to. This sounds like what you're talking about. Although you may find it nicer to live somewhere that's in the country but within a few miles of a small to medium sized town so you can have the best of both worlds. Best thing is to take a drive and see where you like.

    A few words of warning though ... its not the lack of socialising that will get you. It's things like having to drive for miles to get a carton of milk or the newspaper. Having to wait hours for an ambulance if you or your family has some sort of an accident. (Same for guards and fire brigade.) Or having no mobile phone signal at your house. I'd recommend you check it out for a few months before you make the move permanent. Also have you given any thought to how you'll finance yourself when you move. You may end up having to commute a long distance to work. Finally public transport is extremely poor in the coutryside so you WILL need a car.

    Having said all of this the countryside is a beautiful and mainly friendly place to live so I hope you enjoy it. I've lived all my life in the West of Ireland and although I've travelled the world it's still the best place I've been!

    achill island and yes its got a road link. near to castlebar and westport and galway, train from westport to dublin. you will need a car. house prices fairly dear but you can rent. quiet enough in winter but very busy and mighty craic during the summer and if you need a guide pm me.not sure what the scene of rock or goth is but there is plenty of trad irish music.
