I'm wondering if anybody else has had a similar knee problem and can give me some advice on getting it sorted. Basically it hurts when I bend it. The more I bend it and the more weight I put on it when bent, the more it hurts.

I hurt it playing soccer three months ago. We basically had a clash of knees and I kinda felt that my knee was pushed out of position. I probably should have gone looking for help before now but I thought it would go away. I can actually play a game of soccer with almost no pain, but I know I should get this looked at.

The trouble is where do I start? My GP? Is he going to know anything about it at all? A physio? I've heard of people going for months of physio when they should have had surgery from day one. Go straight to a specialist? If so, who?

Any replies appreciated. And while you're at it, I hurt my finger saving a.....

Brilliant place, top sports people go there.

    Very pro-active in treating injuries.

Whatever you choose, definitely get it seen too by someone.

I hurt my knee in April first physio I went to told me I had sprained my cartilage

When I realised that you cant actually sprain your cartilage I went elsewhere.
Second guy told me within 5 mins that I had at least a partially torn acl but that he thought my other ligaments and the menisci were ok then told me to get an MRI which confirmed what he said.
Definitely get it seen to and by someone who deals with sports injuries on a regular basis.

Tbh if you go to a good sports physio then they should know fairly quickly whether or not you need to go down the surgery route and they'll probably know the best person to refer you to for it.

    Blitz
http://www.sportsmedireland.ie/ was already recommended. Personally I went to http://www.leinsterclinic.com/ in Maynooth and found them to be excellent.
I dont know about Cork but If I was youn I'd ask mates who play GAA or Rugby to give a few recommendations.

If it was me, and if you want the best, find out who looks after the Munster Rugby team. It's probably mostly inhouse, but I'm sure some of the players see others physios outside of the team physio.

Find out who they are. Go and see them. That's I did when I was getting my shoudler operated on, and that's what I did when I was looking for a physio recently. Find who the best use, and go to them.

You should definitelly go to physio.

Additionally you may think about taking some cartilage tissue-regenerating supplements like Glucosamine or Athroblock

Links to products attached (you can consult your physio on recomended for you doze)

    Glucosamine

    Arthroblock

There was another thread on this a week or so back. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055155066.

Have a look through it - the problem seems to be similar to yours

Would think it is cartlidge damage in your knee. This is especially evident as you have pain when you bend it. Go to a physio - they will do two or three tests on the knee and will know straight away. One of the tests is where they bend your knee and then turn it...if there is a pop its a sure sign there is cartlidge damage

If it is bad then probably require surgery. Otherwise you can build up the muscle around your knee doing different exercises such as squats etc. It probably wont be 100% but you should be able to continue playing without any problems.
