:(:( The new Casino the Bank opened in Cork last night and is destined to be a great poker farce. What a shame. Looks like the Macau monopoly will continue at least on poker. With a 5% rake Yes thats 5% rake Which is only capped at 50 of your finest hard earned euros Its not likely to be attracting any of the better game players        :( What a shame

so much for checking out the going rate. I was in Malta this year and check out the local action, I asked the manager what the rake was, he said 5%. I aksed what was the cap, he look at me and smiled. So thinking is english was bad, I asked how much do they take per max per pot, he said 5%. so if the pot is 1k you take 50 per a pot. Yes..... ok thanks, wont be playing here ever and he laughed.

The rake in the Shangri La is 3% And after becoming a very good game if you can handle the odd intoxicated donater But Its a fair friendly game I'm not sure about the cap on the rake but I know its not anywhere near €50 Pretty sure its €20 but don't quote me it might be a bit more I'm not sure about the Macau as its so long since I visited But disappointed that an allegedly serious casino could over look this over turn off for poker players

Barcelona and Amsterdam are capped at €25 so once again Cork is leading the way.....................................

I'm sure they will see the error in their ways eventually..

I stand corrected Just checked with San J and it's 2.5% and never been more than €25 taken from a pot

Pretty disappointing but I anticipate it won't take them long to change their policy when they realize that no one is going to play poker there.

Does anybody know the opening hours?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 48 DopeyLocks

Ya Bob and i were in there, its done really nicely, but i agree the rake is oppressive, they are a friendly bunch though and im pretty sure theyll adjust, i hope so anyways as it would be nice to have a regular game plus tournies again!

    Cant beat 5%.

I guess the rake in the macau is 5% also when you consider they take so much for the league on top of the rake.I mean if you arent playing enough in there to justify serious contention in the league you are probably paying 7% in reality.

I just cant understand why these clubs dont have a time charge, then the whole thing would be transparent! Another bonus to this is that a dishonest dealer could not take from pots as easily!

    Hours 6 -> 6 by the way

I agree A time charge is a much fairer method for several reasons, Winning players don't pay all the rake being the biggest

The reason its not used is because a lot of people don't even notice rake but would notice the fella asking for 3 bucks every 30 mins But then trying to explain this to some people is like explaining the theory of relativity

as far as i know the rake charged by the macau is 8 euro per hr per player and they take 1 euro for the league per hd .which is not bad . now sometimes i have to remind the dealers that there :) .but in all its not bad there .

    The game is 1/3

There are no mention of tournies yet

    Unsure

    Yes

Not looking good so far May change

Judging by the rake the interest is drawing poker players is slim Have heard nothing on any promos Its doubtful

hope the powers that be look at this and make the changes that are necesary . if they do they could really could make cork a poker venue for the future! lets hope they take a long term view . short term pain long term gain should be their motto!

They have a 7 night tourney schedule which will be kept updated at bankcasino.ie
Also there seems to be no chance of inter casino good will as the monthly freeze out is also the first thursday @200 euro lol.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 423 ✭✭sitout

    hi sir;
cant acess their web site for some strange reason. do you know if they are playing a monthly freez-out this week? I find it strange that they are clashing already with the macau if this is indeed correct! yet it might be good for the poker playing public.

Went last night was impressed with the setting, good dealers the game itself lacked a lot nothing near the standard of money on the table that you would see in the macau will pay another visit but will stick to macau unless it picks up a lot.Free alcohol that really made my night must be the only cardroom offering that in ireland probably a bad thing in a way :D

Any comment on the rake Tipp or did you not notice Especially with those small stacks your losing two small stacks an hour to the rake

I stand corrected Just checked with San J and it's 2.5% and never been more than €25 taken from a pot

The rake in the "SOUTH MALL SPORTING CLUB" is whatever Sanji wants it to be on any given night...depending on how many drunkerds are in he can get away with it too!

Great Action In There Though & Alot Of Donaters! You wouldnt miss a few euros when its being fired at ya!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 175 ✭✭PokerPissTaker

Dunno who you are Dutch but as someone who probably plays that game more than any other I can safely say I've never seen more than a score taken out of a pot And when there is 3/4k on the table in a 1/2 game I don't mind if the odd time the rake hits 3% :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 722 ✭✭✭busted flush

i was there last night for a bit very few players there so went back to my computer. it will most likley take them a while to get things going in there i hope they do sooner rather than later. what do the expect with no offical opening and nothing in the way of encoraging the large munster poker community to venture in there. time will tell its early days!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭tipp86

Visited macau and there last night wasnt a hard choice 2 tables in the macau as opposed to waiting for a game there.Cant figure out why there not using this forum to an extent to advertise maybe when they start tournaments they will.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 195 ✭✭Caboose

As the title says they're official opening is on the 8th. Got my hands on the tourney schedule and it aint half bad. Early starts on Monday and Tuesday to accommadate those who are working and a fairly solid schedule. You can pick one up inside.

Also there's another €200 the 2nd thursday of every month. Sweet as I cant make the Macau.

As everyone knows these things take time to get going but I've met the management and owners and they are taking things on board. No doubt they will start using boards as well and hopefully reach out to the munster players.

c ye on the tables again soon as I am back in Cork full time now.

    Noice

Sanji lovely fella! Self Proclaimed Gangster!

& theres rarely 3/4 k on the table in there anymore...you might get 2k max the last few times ive been in but i havent been inside, in a few weeks though!

was talking to one of the owners today .he ask me was i going to come in to club for cash game . i told him 5% was to much rake to take . the answer i got was only 2 or 3 people complained about it and everyone else thought it was fair lol . they have a lot to learn if that there idea of fair .if u have a good game going the rake could work out at 250 to 500 per hr no game can take that . even on full tilt 200 400 game omaha or holdem there rake is max 3 dollars per hd .imagine tell those players they have to pay 50 dollars a hd in rake they laugh at u .heres hoping the new guys get a little sence .and bring in a better rake if they want there club to work . the guys in the macou are just laughing at them now :D:D

il bet the guys, that did not complain dont play all that often, dont even see the rake being taken . thats why no phucking club has the balls to collect the rake every half hour like the "vic" for example in london ,as if they did the normal joe soap who plays once or twice a month would actually know how much the game costs! most dont have a clue.
what is really frustrating from reading corkies post is that this new club dont seem to bothered in attracting the bread and butter clients of cork. Alot of whom are without a place to play a regular game . if they put a small bit of effort into making their venue a good place to play and im not talking about decor and pretty waitresses ,then they have a chance otherwise they are doomed to failure!

    :) their initial teething problems

the rake is an issue but im sure will be sorted out in long term,

decor is v nice and bishops ole doll is lookin savage handing out the free sangers

la la land is still best value game in town though , i turnrd quads last night and was left with a decision to call or raise after a geezer tanks it with big slick

    daycent:)

Just a cautionary note.... If you're not barred from that Establishment on Patrick's Quay don't park your car too close. The doorman from said club has been known to have made trips down the Mall taking reg no's when poker in on in La La land.

Stern warnings were given to offenders by the boy in charge on their re-entry over the river:mad:  .

Jesus. Well, I'll be walking in if I go anyway! I might not be there though, but if you are there tonight, could you either PM me or post here with the structure? Just in case it's some crap like a 3k starting stack with 20 minute levels. :)

Structure needed a bit of tweaking I'd say

    50/100
    100/200
    200/400
    400/800
    1000/2000
    2000/4000
    etc....

clock was 20 mins and starting stack was 5k. Good level of play tho.... didnt make the cash game afterwards as I needed matchsticks to keep my eyes open in the tourney

Played cash tonight. I was keeping shtum about the rake but tonight the following pot developed.

heads up for the flop so there was €6 in the POT. I bet out €20 on the flop was raised to €55 and I pushed all in for another €45. The other player folded and before the pot was passed to me I was raked!!!!! So technically I got raked on a €6 pot!!!!! Will be havin words with JazzyG about that me thinks.

Twas a good cash game tho, round of each and all. Good to play alongside a few nutters again.

    til next time.
