Popcorn

Aside from the high carb content which renders it a snack to have at certain times only, popcorn seems to be a pretty decent food - low fat, high fibre, a good helping of protein and quite a few other vits and minerals - as long as it's not oil-popped and swimming in butter.

I know of a doctor that recommends it to people with irritable bowel.

Anyone here eat it or do people regard it as cheat?

popcorn is healthy but it's not a good source of protein.
Corn is a cereal and cereal proteins are very incomplete by themselves; only useful really if you combine them with beans/pulses and/or nuts. Combined with nuts alone they still aren't great.
Oats have better protein than other cereals for some reason, but again it's quite incomplete.

There's a bag of microwavable buttered popcorn downstairs that you just reminded me of. Thank you!!

In all seriousness the odd bag won't hurt. Moderation (I can't believe I said that) and all that jazz....
