Thought this would be interesting while I was abroad. Explaining that I could rattleof 50 words for drunk used in Ireland without pause.

Must be a unique to us here.

So I thought Id like to see everyone elses words for drunk and get the

" Boards Definitve guide to being drunk in Ireland"

    Start with the basics

    1. Ar mesice

    2. Langers

    3. Pissed

Now Id like to see a few more colouful and regional ones......Maybe an explantion for any obscure local oddities or personal faves.

    Cheers

Haha. Once explained to foreign work colleagues that, in the same way the Eskimos describe snow in dozens of different words in their langauge, because drink is as in your face to us as snow is to the Inuit, we have pretty much as many terms ;)

    Drunk
    Locked
    Rubbered
    Slaughtered drunk
    Balloblus
    Ossified/state of ossification
    Twisted/twistified/twistifried
    Bananas drunk

Whats so great about this country is you know what type of drunk is being described by the wording. If someone was bananas drunk, they were drunk, a bit of energy and rowdy/talking sh1te when they shouldnt have.

Rubbered is fairly jolly and inoffensive. Probably the best drunk state to pull in

Flutered- jolly, not with much control of the legs but talking good natured utter sh1te to birds

Slaughtered- in bits but still fairly coherent

Ossified- hammered and talking/getting involved in sh1te. See "bananas"

Twisted- off your head, needed others help to even get home

    We are. Live with it.

Some nations view us as a disgrace. Scottish women view us as being as strong and sturdy as their own men, but with an accent that, and i quote from a trip to Glasgae, "i nearlee orgasimin an he aint even touchin me!" :D I love to go places where you and your fellow citizens are heroes for drinking. Like the Russians, Scots and a few other alco nations, the weather doesnt give us much joy, so we have to make our own

Christ that city is fackhin bryllahnt :D If it wasnt for the poor economy id emigrate in a second.

Because, in Ireland, where the pub is home, and blurred vision is a comfort, you can't just be drunk. To be merely drunk is to make little of the experience. No, you can be pissed. You can be fluthered. You can be jarred. You can be trousered. You can be polluted, ossified, twisted, stocious, bollixed, plastered, tanked, locked, blethered, blathered, smashed, banjaxed, ****faced, pickled, scuttered, soused, hammered, blind, battered, lashed, poleaxed, slaughtered. You can be either langers or langered or even langerated. You can be steaming, pronounced shtaymin. Or mouldy, pronounced mowldy. Or you can just be plain ****ed. But rarely, simply drunk.

We have a mate called Eh...Melly

He is now synonomous with a state of drunkeness associated with the old Irish village drunk that some how eventually finds his way home very night but not after doing 2 round trip journeys on a nite link before waking on the wrong end and having to get a taxi, being found asleep on a window cill of a house in the wrong direction of home and falling asleep at the helm of a boat keeled over with his head supporting his body on the deck.

    Mellied !!
