Does anyone know how to train as a Pilates teacher. What knowledge of Pilates do you have to have train? Do you have to train as a yoga teacher as well?

It depends on the courses. Some courses want to to have a prior qualification as a gym instructor first and reduce your course contact hours accordingly. They take into account that you have the required instructional skills to break down and teach an exercise or movement. Both the NCEF and the NTC offer these courses.

Bodyfirm http://www.pilatesireland.org/ offers pilates teacher training courses for those without a gym instructor qualification but with an interest in the area. I haven't undertaken any of their courses but it may be worth contacting them.

Good luck and I hope you find the course that best suits you.

A friend of mine did a course with Stott Pilates, was impressed with the instructors - high quality, knew what they were talking about.

I don't have any contact details but it might help.

If you're doing Pilates, could you ask your instructor? Or call into a local gym and ask the Pilates person where they picked up their qualifications?

The NTC stipulates that you must have a qualification in gym instruction to do the course (at least they did when I was there....)

Here the link to the NTC (National Training Centre )
    Fundamental Pilates course http://www.ntc.ie/pilatesmf.php

This is the course I did around 4 years back and as some others said you need to be a fitness instructor to be allowed to do it, at least for the NTC course.

Check out the following sites as well:

Don't think you have to have a Yoga background to do Pilates, at least I never heard that some college/institute requires it.
