Yeah, its fairly basic, has plenty of cardio and weights machines but has a very bad free weights section, no bench and only dumbells up to about 26kg I think. Pool is quiet small but you can press a button for a current to swim against. Changing rooms are kinda small as well.

Hey - I went last week for a look, as I had a free pass. You're given a free towel to use while there, which is a plus. It's clean and new, but I won't be joining. I went early in the week, at around 7pm to judge how busy it would be. The weight machines (which I use the most) are ok. I wasn't mad about them, they're limited - can't describe it, anyway - there's a few machines but not enough in my opinion. You could get bored after a while doing the same workout. No chin-dip machines etc... I do understand it's a hotel gym and not a Ben Dunne gym! :)

But if it's cardio and a bit of weights your after, it's perfect. Not too big and imtimidating etc.

Sorry to bring back an old Thread but before I ring and cave in to their 'hard sell' I'd like to know if anyone has any recent experiences of this gym? I haven't been training for about six months and the Patriot's Inn has claimed my belly so I want to get back into training in a nice gentle manner. The last thing I want is a poser's gym. Does anyone know how much it costs per month? Out of interest, does anyone know of any other gyms (that don't require bullet proof vests!) in the Kilmainham/Incichore/Rialto area.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I'm just trying to find out how much the gym in the Hilton. I asked them in an email but they wanted to get me to come in to discuss.

I would prefer to know the price before going to the gym. Any help would be great!! Thanks a million!!

I think it was 59 per month when I signed up but that was a couple of years ago now

"I think it was 59 per month when I signed up but that was a couple of years ago now"

I just went in 2 days ago. Pricing was broken into peak / off-peak rates. Peak was 55euro and off-peak was 50euro. If you live in the Kilmainham square (i.e. Old Chocolate Factory) it goes down to 50/45eur respectively for the DD option.

    Peak - 6:30am - 10pm
    off-peak - 6:30am - 5pm

(not too sure what they would do if you were off-peak, mid way through a session and it went a couple minutes over 5...)

I find this figure incredible, €55 euro a month is what I'd call astonomical.
I'm going to gyms ten years and trained in loads of different ones, on holiday
or working away from home, and really and truely, I've never seen any gym this price. Not ever.

Might be worth having a sticky which has all the prices for Gyms in Dublin City

55 a month is relatively cheap. Most clubs are at least that. Jackie Skellys were 83 a month, west wood was 75 until recently (and might still be)
    Prices are coming down though

Do you have to be in kilmainham square. Thats a shame I live really close by but not in Kilmainham square.

the gym isn't too bad. i do feel very limited with the free weights tho. i've just about surpassed the weight i can use for a deadlift, had to go onto single leg deadlifts. can't stand most weight machines as they are a waste anyway, but those are limited too.

the place is clean enough, staff are friendly, other members don't bug you & are relatively respectful. they had to put signs up to only use the tv's with headphones, but other than that i've had no problems. the pool is more a hydrotherapy area than anything else.

i usually go late, the last person to leave because i hate crowded gyms (so anyone reading this please don't go late so i can have more space ;)). one staff member is a physical therapist, so you can make appointments with him & he's good.

i could probably go to a better equipped gym, but its close to my house (& parks) so it makes going easy. if i had to go to some other gym further away, it would actually be harder for me to go, so that would be money wasted. im there most times 3-5 days a week. i would suggest make going to the gym as easy as possible that way you actually go.

I'v recently joined gym, it's ok bit small, cost 400 per year off peak, u can cancel after 5 months, so 200 for six. But the main problem is the mind numbing loud music blaring out every minute of the day, no matter what time you go. It is crippling, bought earphones still couldn't
block the **** they play out. I dont go anymore. Nuts
