post count / register date

when do you refrence a persons post by their post count or registration date? I usually don't, but if someone posts something retarded I check their reg date first and if it's either this month of the previous month I mutter "moron" and don't bother reading the rest of the post, or if I do it's to take the píss. I am fairly sure I am not alone on this. I generally try not to judge a poster on when they registered or how many posts they made, but sometimes it's a very good indicator as to how retarded their writing skills / point is

Surely you would have seen this topic hashed over every 6 months or so in your 2 years and 9 months on boards?

If a noOb has a good point I'll respond and treat em as I would anyone else. If a noOb keeps starting stupid threads then I'll stab them until they die from it. With a spoon. Naturally.

Personally I take no interest in a persons register date or post count.

What I judge people on is basic spelling and grammar and the ability to string a coherent sentence together.

General standard is appalling and indeed some people even take pride in their inability to spell and use the tenses.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,831 ✭✭✭Slow Motion

    use the tenses.

I find the best way of dealing with the tenses was a good massage ;)

I suppose I would be considered a newbie to boards although I did browse about for a while before I registered.

I agree with FlutterinBantam that its quite annoying to read through a post that hasn't been thought out and meanders along. Little spelling errors happen all the time though from what I can see, just poor typing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

Little spelling errors are no problem.

Sheer laziness and a "fcuk you" attitude are.

The irony of all this is that some of the worst offenders are third level students,or graduates, who espouse their views all over Boards, not realising they are showing themselves up as dummies,by their appalling use of spelling and grammar.

I'd only consider post count or register date if I thought the person was trolling or pimping something. I think you'd be a bit of a dummy to discredit what someone says because they are new to the site, or due to mistakes in spelling or grammar for that matter(unless the post is truly incomprehensible).

I agree. Spelling can be a real problem for some people, and some can find it quite difficult to post on a site like this. To feel they're being 'judged' on spelling, grammar etc would be daunting indeed.
What's important is the point they're making, not the way they're spelling it.

My grammar will be near perfect if its important, if its just some INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD i couldn't give two mucks

    just my opinion

and that's fair enough, but when someone makes a post like this:

me n me m8s wer takin da udr day abt me mot etc etc...

    you just can't be bothered

True, that's just laziness. I'd just hate to think somebody might be made to feel 'unworthy' of posting on the site because their grammar or spelling isn't up to scratch.

Fair enough, I hate it too. As a matter of fact my pet hate is the errant apostrophe - drives me mad and they're everywhere, lol.
The level of spelling in newspapers has gone down lately too, I've noticed. I don't know how many times I've read 'lead' when they should have written 'led'. Mind you, it was the Evening Herald.

Given that the oldest registered poster on this thread is only 2001 and everyone else is a relative noob, I have ignored everyones' posts.

Therefore I would like to either agree/disagree with the point of this thread, whatever that might be, depending on whichever would objectively be the most appropriate.

There are people who have been here years with thousands of posts that are muppets so I tend not to judge people on their post count or join date. Quality of their previous posts (where applicable) is all I judge them by.

Probably indulging in some kinky sex games involving a pot of marmalade, some baling twine and Tsubh Dearg. He's probably the manliest man on boards. Pighead for one is intimidated by his overpowering masculinity.

Never, the only thing worth concerning myself about is the actual content of each individual post.

Spelling mistakes dont bother me since most of the time they seem like typo's like Jsut for example.

After all it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. As you dnot raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

New date just means "turned 14 today"
