stupid am i, well im not the one who bought a ps3!!!

ok maybe its not dead yet but it soon will be...
it has no major game titles that are on no other console.
gta4 which most owners will buy contains two less levels than the 360 version, and MS made a deal for alot more content download and more missions...
companies have used the ps3 as a test machine, the 360 version of VF5 is tweaked and the characters are more even..

oh and halo 3 is for 360 only!

the ps3 simply has nothing goin for it so take a bit of advice from "a brick" and trade in your consoles for a 360(you'd probably get enough store cred t get an elite)....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,690 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

for a 360 that actually will crash....smart - mine is currently in germany for the 3rd time.

PS3 has stuff going for it, just not as much as the 360 at the moment. Still like the reliability of the ps3, you know, the way I know it will actually work when i turn it on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

ohh wow 2 less levels, i couldn't personally care less, and i doubt most other casual gamers will either.

and halo 3 give us a ****ing break, the halo series was nothing to write home about in the first place, people kept telling me about this epic storyline but all i got when i played it was a bunch of turd.

Tbh I think you're right for now. I've always been a Playstation fan but I never touch my PS3. However, game release season is beginning so in time I can see it getting a lot more use.

I knew this would happen though, I told my dad not to get one yet and he goes and gets me it as soon as it came out. When it comes to console gaming I'm spoilt.

Well, the 360 is NEVER going to sell in large numbers in Japan so the PS3 kinda has the dancefloor to itself, seeing as the Wii, by Nintendos own admission, isn't playing the multimedia, high end graphicsgame.
We can then expect a large number of decent next gen titles to come from there as the user base there makes it viable for PS3 development, in fact I can see it snowballing over the next 6/12 months.
In the US and Europe its a little more uncertain, we have a public who have really bought into the 360 next gen vision, coupled with great priceing.
Although, given that the Playstation as a brand is locked into peoples minds, Sony cannot be written off, the PS3 is in this for the next 5/6 years, plenty of time to sell lots of machines, a lacklustre first 18months didn't do the PS2 any harm.
It has to be said though that previous household favourites like Atari, Commodore and Sega eventually lost their respective thrones to newcomers or to consumer apathy, so we will wait and see.

Perhaps the future is, in fact, Wii....

As for "crashing and burning like an Orphanage", he's right, have you seen the way that orphanages are driven? Especially on the motorway, man they go way too fast, drink too much jolt cola and then never use their indicators when changing lanes, a disaster waiting to happen, I reckon a Garda Patrol special on this danger in our midst is required.

    In a word Moggins, you're a plank.

The marketplace is shifting, the big Japanese gaming companies are no longer happy with just the japanese market - case in point Capcom with Dead Rising and Lost Planet. In previous years this could have sustained the PS3, now I 'm not so sure.

Personally I'm looking forward to Eye Of Judgement, but to call that a niche game would be very generous.

Sony need to start getting aggressive - something like giving the PS3 native divx / xvid support could draw a lot of neutrals.

    ....not to mention FFXIII.

One important thing that the PS3 has over the 360, is that you know it's not going to break.

Don't forget heavenly sword or uncharted. The new yakuza sequel is also exclusive to the ps3.Then theres home, warhawk etc etc.
Lots of third party non exclusive games like kane and lynch, army of two and half life 2. So what if they are on the 360 as well. They look pretty good and I will be playing them on my ps3.

once the PS3 gets its RPG on you'll see a bit more interest from the Japanese consumer, and the Japanese companies. i know dead rising2 is in development and due next year on ps3/360. i would imagine that will shift more ps3's in japan then 360's (japanese company releasing games means japanese people will at least have a go) because there'll be more residual interest thanks to PS2.

indeed it looks interesting, as does stuff like littlebigplanet and other such PSN titles. i think sony are doing more with their network to broaden the games they have then Microsoft right now, despite a lack of sega megadrive titles!

i disagree. i think Sony need to keep up the work with pushing the PS3's capabilities forward (native divx etc.) but rather then making that a focal point, they need to sell the games they have. they're confusing kids by not advertising the fact that they've got a great system for GAMES, and great GAMES to boot...

    From Eurogamer.net

"Worldwide cumulative sales of the Wii are now greater than those for 360, making it the best selling console of this generation, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

According to figures in the Financial Times, gamers across the world have collectively bought 9 million Wii consoles, 8.9 Xbox 360 consoles, and 3.7 million PlayStation 3 consoles.

Nintendo has now overtaken Microsoft within ten months, despite the one year head start enjoyed by the Redmond giant.

"The fact of the matter is that, despite the Xbox's earlier launch in November 2005, it only sells in two markets - Europe and the US," said one analyst in Tokyo. "Japan is home turf to Sony and Nintendo, so the Xbox is not a player at all. In contrast, Nintendo has been selling well in all three major markets."

Nintendo hasn't enjoyed the console top-spot since the SNES stuck us to telly-screens back between 1990 to 1993. Up until now, Sony had been the driving force in the market up, ever since the first PlayStation popped on shelves in 1994.

July saw Nintendo pass Sony in market capitalisation for the first time ever."

I don't like the Wii, I played it at a mates house broke my arm in 5 minutes. It also ended up in braking his family photo! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭estariol

To be fair, the Wii is not a next gen console so doesn't really count in the comparison stakes. I find the Wii gets wheeled out every now and then for non gaming oriented friends, the 360 is noisy, might die at any moment! but does exactly what is says on the tin. The PS3 on the other hand matches the 360 in performance as a games machine and should in future far outshine it, and there is certainly no contest for multimedia and that again can only improve.
Statements like the OP's are pointless infact anyone doesn't own all 3 can't really make any useful point.

Not to sure about pinning ones hopes on Heavenly Sword, seems that either of the God Of War games are better to play, back luck there, especially given the hype.

A few of the games on the way like Lair and Heavenly Sword are launch titles delayed to give the early adopter something new to play half a year in, hopefully new titles over the next 12 months will provide a better example of the machines power, and not rely on proprietory middleware to provide a lowest common denominator, crippling both PS3 and 360. The development of better and better development tools for the PS3 will result in some seriously good looking and interesting games, we hope.

We can only hope that the situation with Virtua Fighter where its online portion is only implemented fully on the 360 is a blip and online support on the Sony machine is as well established as Xbox live, a difficult process but one, if done well, will make the PS3 desirable in the US and across the likes of South Korea where online gaming is a way of life.

Ahh, the musings of moron who clearly has spent more time banging his faulty XBox off his thick head than actually sitting down and playing the Playstation 3.

But let's assume he has a point, for the sake of justifying the time anyone has spent by clicking into this excus for a post...

The arguement of PS3 vs XBox is a little redundant. Gaming is where consoles lives and die. In the past games were much more exclusive than they are now. These days the majority of new releases are multi-platform.

And even if they're not most PS3 fans have access to a PC (and where do X Box games come from/end up?) or own Microsoft's console as well.

The arguement has been relegated to constrasting a handful of exclusives for both formats Lair vs Halo, MGS4 vs Gears of War etc etc. It's all a hangover from the days of Snes vs Sega.

Even if - IF - the PS3 ultimately sees Sony being beaten out of the console market, owners of the PS3 will still get much use and enjoyment out of their console over the coming years.

The owners of consoles which ultimately lost out (Gamecube, Dreamcast) still got great enjoyment out of their machine during its lifespan and probably saw it as money well spent.

It's Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo that has it all to lose, not the gamer or the console owner. We are the beneficiaries of their successes through lower prices and better games.

    Stupid fanboy.

I disagree. Sure they will have access to a pc, but most likely not a decent gaming standard PC. And a large proportion will have had the PS1, the PS2 and now the PS3 as their sole console, as the Playstation brand has become synonymous with gaming.
    silvine wrote:

The sole PS3 owner may get enjoyment. He or she could also miss out on this generation's zeitgeist game (GTA3 last generation), as the developing market suggest more and more games are going the way of xbox.
    silvine wrote:

Nintendo and Sega were always much stronger on content delivery than Sony though. Sony has traditionally relied more heavily on 3rd parties for its AAA games.

    silvine wrote:

Early console adopters have plenty to lose. Paying over the odds for something that rarely gets used.

as ill thought out as the OP's post is, I dont think the thread should be closed. This is a talking point. heres my 2p.

First of all for nostalgia reasons, anyone else remember the days of?
"my C64 is better than your spectrum!"
"My amiga is better than your atari ST!"

we're a richer country now so some of us can afford both consoles!!! (haha - OP you lose!)

I used to be a die hard sony fan and i made the switch to 360 recently and i have to admit i love it.

Why did i not buy a PS3? Simple, its too new, its overpriced and the games arent up to scratch yet. Like all console releases, it normally takes a year before the quality improves. Chances are i will pick one up next year :)

but back to the original point? Is the PS3 dead? No. Has it got the titles to bring longevity to the machine? No, not yet anyway. Will the blu ray / HD war impact the PS3? Possibly, we dont know yet. (i reckon dual format players could save the market them both...)

The real question is i guess, what are sony doing to pump life into this already highly competitive market?

Phew! I just checked and my PS3 is alive well it needed a system update before I could download Fifa 08 demo but it seems to be alive.

Ok joking aside I picked up a PS3 in Hong Kong a few months ago purely because it was cheap but I keep walking into GAME every few weeks hoping to see some new games but they are very slow to come out.

I mean when you think that the console release was delayed so much you would have thought that when the release date came in Europe they would have had a good selection of games available. But I'm sure the PS3 will come good I mean after all the console is great its just the games supply that is the problem.

You should really check PSN rather than Game - it's had a lot of great content that you wouldn't find in game. Pick up Stardust HD, it's brilliant, and follow that up with Warhawk.

That said, the Summer dry spell is effectively over in the shops. Heavenly Sword and DIRT yesterday, Warhawk's disc version and a bunch of EA sports titles next week, more EA sports along with Sega Rally, Stuntman and others the following week, Skate along with yet more EA sports the week after. In the month or two beyond that there's Folklore, Lair, Ratchet & Clank, Haze, Unreal Tournament, Assassin's Creed, CoD4, Uncharted, Burnout Paradise and a whole lot of others.

And there's still some great PS2 games coming out to play on it too, I still need to find the time to devote to Rogue Galaxy and Valkyrie Profile 2.
