People still use the term 'honours'? What exactly does it mean, anyway (in terms of results, not of 'honours/higher level maths' vs 'pass/ordinary level maths')?

If he got 11 honours then he probably doesn't drink. Unless that's actually the secret to success, yes, beer make yuu more intelligmence!

Ah the junior cert, I barely remember it.

Well I'll try putting it like this.

He's both my eldest child and my parents eldest grandchild so this is a first for us all, and I'm over the moon.

If you want to apply to universities outside Ireland (like the UK) they look at your junior cert results too, so they are important in that respect. Also, I remember when i did my junior cert (10 years ago now, eek!) it was a HUGE thing for me and my family. It's the first exams were you're measured against other students around the country so it's a very important indication too of your abilities.

Usually when people talk in terms of honours, they just barely scraped C's or are modest....but it's usually the first one. Which are you? :p

The reason kids are getting 11 honours in their JC's is because they now examine subjects like religion, CSP, etc. Things people always did but now they're being given a grade for them.

Fook that, I better tell my bro that all those years studying for the leaving cert and going through college were a waste of time, sure theres 6 figure jobs everywhere.

Mairt, well done, tell him to keeping studying or else he'll become a boards mod ;)

Thats madd i dont understand that at all because you see ive always seen the junior cert as not important, i hope you dont ruin your sons fun years by over insisting on the importance of a flawed education system and incouriging him to study instead of have fun because he might not like that in years to come

Your spelling suggests that somebody should have insisted on your behalf?

Oh he's off the leash alright!.

This is all tinged with a little sadness with the news that a young junior-certer in the area took her life this morning.
