Well Scraggs was my local for years and now I can barely stay in there for more than half an hour on a saturday nite. Its too packed and full of teeny bobbers! It use to be that you knew everyone in there now I no no one! Maybe Im too old!

My fav now would probably be either Lev and Fry (for the smoking area) or the Barracks.

The Med was a fav until it closed down. Anyone happen to know when and if it will reopen? I heard it closed because the guy who owns it couldnt pay for the new building works? Any ideas?

yeh thats the story apparently fitzy.. last time i walked by they were doing work to it but seemed to be all external work

well about the med yesterday i saw some guys putting up scaffolding, sbout 20 of them, so theres something.

scraggs is the the new underager bar. ever time i go in there i just walk straight on out, i cant see why all the guys in my course are like "SCRAGGS!!".

o'loughlins is actually my fav, thats usually just because of the djs, and the smoking and snooke area.

lev and frys is good too cos of the "dance" floor. always agood laugh and atmosphere in lev.

tullys is getting to b the old guy bar. buzzs......does anyone drink there anymore? went up there just tocheck it out at the start of the summer and you could count the amount of people with our fingers.

i hate dinn rí, the bouncers always hassle ya, do nothing when something is going down. and the bar men are just down right rude, most of the time, thats not to say they are all rude, some of my friends worked there, but thank god they left there.

hows the barracks at night, always want to go in there but whe im wit the lads they never want to go in

Not a huge fan of leverett and fry's, not sure why. It's always way too crowded, but not much more than O'Lough's where I usually go. I'd still go in there every so often though.

Barracks is pretty chill, especially earlier on in the day when there's fewer people there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,972 ✭✭✭patrickc

the barracks is ok too, but on a sat night yo u can't move in it, particularly the smoking area, buzz's seems to be just the stoners place to drink. yeh o loughlin's is a nice pub too..

    for where?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭cashback

Probably The Barracks. Not sure why, just seems relaxed enough even when there's a big crowd there.
End up in Leveretts a lot, even though I wouldn't be crazy about the place.

It's a pity not one pub in Carlow plays half decent music.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 380 ✭✭lynch_3001

lets move in a slightly different direction does anyone go to the foundry and why?
i personally hate it, too crowded crap music, played at a level inaudiable to most, and overpriced entry and drinks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,316 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

When I was drinking there, the Barracks or the Dinn Ri.

The Barracks had a decent enough smoking area, but the Dinn Ri wins hands down, as it does food. Also, the Sunday night free-pint karaoke was a good laugh.

Scraggs is a kip! I used to drink there the whole time but now its just so packed its ridiculous and just uncomfortably warm.

I drink in the Barracks or Leverettes for the smoking area, both are really good imo. My local is now Tully's before it was O'Loughlins before I got too old :D
I usually go to the late bar in Leverettes instead of the foundry nowadays. I haven't actually been there in 6mths I was [am] so sick of the place. Apparantly the smoking area has been completely revamped anybody seen it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭Undergod

The bamboo bar? It's kinda nice. Way too crowded, it's worse there than the rest of the club for some reason.

Yeh was in the Bamboo Bar 2 weeks ago, its fairly small for the size of the nitghtclub but better than wahat was there before it.

In relation tot he Foundry in general I never drink in DInn Ri, never did never will. Ive been going to the Foundry since I was 16 so im a bit tired of it now! I agree though price of drink is mad as is the entry price. It also gets too packed! I rarely go now. Use to go to Cosmo's before they closed it down and reopened it. Had some great nirtes there but defo would not go now. Full of people who cant get into the Foundry for all the wrong reasons!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,972 ✭✭✭patrickc

    what's the bamboo bar?

i haven't ventured into the foundry in months, used to like Fridays there , best music of weekend and cheapest night in.. would not pay 15 to get in now on a Saturday night, for overpriced drink and to be squashed

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 380 ✭✭lynch_3001

    my thought exactly

If you want a good laugh but most likely too little room to move and NO phone signal, go to Scraggs.

If you want to come across more underagers than you'd meet in a creche, go to O'Loughlins.

If you want to see how many old men will perv on your girlfriend but get to enjoy brilliant DJs, go to Leveretts.

If you want to save money, stay in Leveretts on a Saturday night.

But if you want a good laugh, just go to scraggs and then on to the foundry. Oh, but don't hang around for long after the foundry or you might find a fool that's looking for a fight. (If you're one of those people who looks for a fight, be careful who you pick one with :) )

Ohhh and don't forget to go to Supermacs after it all :D

i see.... anyone any opinions on Brown Street Bar?
I liked that place but rarely ventured in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 802 ✭✭✭Mylow

Over 20 years since I lived in Carlow...place I remember on Brown St. was Maggie Bolgers. I was in Castle Tavern about 3 or 4 years ago.....still same crowd in there. Wouldn't know where to go these days.... Dinn Ri wouldn't be my cup of tea. Haven't been out in Carlow for 2 or 3 years now.

I recall a certain Sergant used to drink in Stone Haven 20+ years ago...it was older crowd it Stone Haven, my dad used to drink in there and Jimmy Kings which is long gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭wheres me jumpa

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,972 ✭✭✭patrickc

Sherrifs never re-opened after the keg room blew up if I remember correctly.

Like Leverett's, I suppose out of all the places to go. No pub in Carlow will beat Dalton's in Tullow on a random Tuesday after the indoor soccer or something like that. Good music on and abuse and beer flying! What more could you want?!!
