South Africa all the way hey??

They have the players to do it. I think they will top the group for sure..

South Africa by 30 points or thereabouts. Surprised Steyn isn't starting this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,544 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

South Africa to win this by a fairly high margin even though I do rate the Somoains. Just think the boks are so good Somoa will look a lot worse than they probably are.

Samoa are riddled with injury - four of their top players will be taking no further pasrt in the tournament as a result of getting hurt in training and warm-up games.

The Samoan management have openly stated that they are going to hold a little back in the game against SA so that they can ensure that they have as much in the reserve tank as possible to unleash on England. They see England as their chance to get through the pool stages.

I believe Francois Steyn is being used as an impact substitution in this game. He can play any one of four positions, but is not the favoured starter for any of those positions. He still needs to prove himself on the big stage. I hope that he gets brought in as a sub for JP Pietersen as early as possible. JP hasn't really proved that he is worthy of the first choice as wing. Too much politics involved in that choice unfortunately. Fransie will get a chance and will cement his place for the later stages in the tournament *holds thumbs*.

It should be a cracker, but I predict a 30+ points victory margin for the Bokke.

    well pietersens there cos
1.he was the top try scorer in the super 14 this year, hes worth a go
    (14 tries in 15 games i think? ) habana was 2nd btw ,
2.ndungane is injured so thats leaves him and habana as sp. wingers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

Agreed BOHSBOHS, but JP has looked pretty suspect in defence whenever he's had a green jersey on. I'd love to see the lad make himself a permanent fixture in that position.

    I hate working  .
We are fielding a very strong team, over 600 caps between the players, don't think they will have a problem. Im sure england will be watching intently, we need to scare them today.

Habanna vs Tualiagi that should be fairly interesting!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

3 points on the board for the Bokke!!!!!!!!

Edit: massive tackles in this one

JP Pietersen knocks on in the backline when the boks are on attack.

This could kick off. 2 highly physical sides chomping at the bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

There have been a few punches thrown already. I fear that the fighting off the ball is going to slow down the game and, as a result, the point scoring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭beglee

that was DIRTY by Burger, basically swinging a punch/high-tackle at the Samoan no.9's head whilst he was in the air trying to catch the ball! Like a double penalty offence and really dangerous with ur man being in the air. Lucky not to be binned IMO

I agree, but its Samoa that are playing, not Fij...

I think the commentary on Setanta sensationalised the Burger tackle a little, on the replay he is looking at ball, but poorly judged.

    Good physical contest so far.

Nice try, the Samoans are under the posts.

    Try by Samoa... great run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

Ref needs to get a grip here, Maybe binning Burger earlier would have set the tone a bit better.

I don't get these 'warnings', surely players are warned before the game by the Ref.

Another terrible decision from the Ref gives SA a try.

Paul Honiss has been known as a bad ref for ages now, the commentators on Setanta are pretty harsh on SA, accused De Villiers of dropping a knee, when he wasn't anywhere near his him and they just said nothing when Montgomery got slammed through the boards after getting his try

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,544 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

I reckon its going to be a cricket score when SA play England looking at this

What was that try just after half-time disallowed for? Think the Samoans are been hard done by a bit. That lad should have been binned aswell for the tackle in the air. Intentional or not, its in the air, its a high tackle. Still dont think Samoa will progress from group, but they'll do well enough.

Honiss should be suspended. Two tries by SA (should have been half-time before Monty's try) that shouldn't have been allowed and one disallowed try. ignored burger tackle and numerous other blatant favourtism calls. As for Monty ending up in hoarding, it was momentum rather than anything.

Theyll definitely give them a good run for their money anyway, and itll obviously be a bruising affair for the English.

Regardless, SA have deserved their 4 points for the win and their bonus point. I'm quite clearly a fan ;)

Habana with try no.4, he's a little bit good aint he :)

Nope sorry not momentum, Monty had the ball down and was hit 3 feet afterwards and ended up going sideways too the board, even Lima when he came on went headfirst into a tackle and it was high, that was equally as disgraceful. Lima was the worst for wear after it might be concussion, sad way to finish your career if it is but he deserved it.

He got a little push. It's not the same as being clotheslined by somebody in midair. Lima tackle ridiculous alright.

    Great start for SA,
(anyone else sick of UTV Comentry yet?)

Great tough game. Samoa as usual can be proud of their performance. They played with great pride and showed a lot of heart, but were simply outclassed by the boks.

I'm hoping that the boks can make it to the dream final with the All Blacks. I drew NZ in the office pool, so either the boks win or I get €50. Either way I win ;)

No way, if anything that should have been a penalty try just before half time. The samoans repeatedly collapsed the scrum and SA deservedly got there in the end.

All in all I thought the ref had an ok game and allowed it to be a physical contest and was lenient with both sides on late hits.

As for monty, it was a clear push that made him end up in the hoarding.

Sounds like a SA score from the Cricket World Cup :D

jdivision - bit jealous are you??

Burger did not tackle the guy in mid-air, he went for the ball but poor judgement on his side with his arm looks like it was serious. Looked worse than what is was, the Samoan kept on playing.

Monty's push momentum?? Are you for real dude. You're an idiot, it was a blatant push.

All tries were good tries. Habana place it on the ground before it was kicked away.

Reason why the Samoans try were disallowed is because he was binding from the side and then went for the try, that is offside, check IRB rules if you don't know.

I do agree though that Honiss was not great but he was bad towards both teams.
