I bruised my ribs badly 2 weeks ago and need to play a hurling match this week.( 3 weeks after the injury occuring). I was told that it would take 3 - 6 weeks to heal. They are still painful if I sprint or swing the hurley fully. Would a painkilling injection get me through the match or is there any other quick-fix remedy?

Unless it's the semi or quarter finals of a big tournament, or it's one of the last games of the season and there's a lot riding on it I wouldn't get the injection.

What happpens next week if there's another game? Do you get another injection? Or the week after that...?

    Hanley is spot on.

Take the time to heal properly.

Yeah, I know where your coming from. Its a final, so its the last game of the year for me. So if the healing process is set back by a few weeks it wouldn't be a problem. Just not sure how to go about it really as I don't really get injuries, just now at an unfortunate time of course....just my luck

In that case, if I were you I wouldn't even be asking that question, I'd be doing whatever it took to plain.

    Fcuk it. It's only pain.

Slightly dislocated two ribs a couple of years ago and found as long as I walked around and sat bolt upright they were fine. Ice baths helped as well.
But for a match I'd be looking for pharmaceutical relief.
It might help if you strapped them as well.

Hmmmm. I would be of the opinion that if you can play through the pain without it affecting your game then go for it as it's a final.

If your gonna be timid on the ball, or not able to play right then your costing your team a lot, so do whats best and just sit out the game.

I played a few important games with guys on the team who were just to stubborn to step back when hurt, and it cost us points and goals and wins that should have been ours.

Wasn't particularly happy about it at the time.
