Hi all,

Has anyone had any use with the Bodi-Tek Elite 3 series muscle toner? I have been looking at this and am wondering if it is worth buying. The product offers;

High performance, professional, total body muscle building and strength training EMS system.

Yeah (I'm looking for studies now) but I believe they were effective in preventing atrophy in seriously ill patients and were developed for that reason.

Hypertrophy in a healthy individual is another story though!

I am not sure what they were originally intended for, but they are used in hospitals. I used to work in one and they were in use, any patient with limited mobility, can be in a coma, bed ridden, disabled etc.

It might stop muscles wasting away but the lads in the infomercials did not get into shape with those belts!

Although I also heard Bruce Lee used to use them.

unfortunately I only have access to e-journals from 1998 onwards, and the last one is from 1992 (very possibly outdated?).

But damn, I never realised I had access to Sports Medicine!! There's gazillions of deadly articles in there - a super-quick peruse has thrown up Anabolic Steroids: A Review for the Clinician (2002), The Effects of Stretching on Strength Performance (2007), The Adaptations to Strength Training (2007), The Role of Diet and Exercise for the Maintenance of Fat-Free Mass and Resting Metabolic Rate During Weight Loss (2006), Effects of Androgenic-Anabolic Steroids in Athletes (2004)... there goes my productivity for the day
