Last night I put the following into the blender.
    • 1 small can of tuna (135g drained)
    • 1 medium size cup of milk
    • 1 tomato

    The result was pretty disgusting.

Any suggestions on tuna smoothies or how to make them a bit nicer? I'm looking for something tasty and high in protein.

Gross sorry i have no idea how you thought that would be nice, dragan recommend tuna and pineapple, i have tried it and its not bad ( till you eat all the pineapple and have only tuna left). You could try that, surprisingly the flavours dont go too bad together.

Of course you could just eat the tuna and pineapple either ;)

I have never tried it but I heard adding a tin of tuna to a fruit smoothie tastes ok. If you try it let me know what you think.

Do you not like eating it normally?

Eating Tuna and Pineapple is like letting Casanova lose on your taste buds to give them a RIGHT GOOD SEEING TO!

Tuna in a smoothie just sounds like a disaster to me no matter what way you go at it.

Unless you blend a tin of tuna into pineapple juice?

I have to admit, putting the words 'tuna' and 'smoothie' together in a sentence just reeks of nastiness to me :o

Tuna and pineapple are lovely together, but I wouldn't imagine they'd marry very well smoothie-style - it'd be too 'bitty'. What about tuna and natural yoghurt? Milk is probably too sweet for smoothies, but the yoghurt would be nice and bitter and could work. Maybe throw in a dash of balsamic vinegar or worcester sauce for taste and some diced cucmber or eve some sweetcorn?

i mixed tuna with fruit juice, bannanas, apples and peaches one time and it was bloody pungent. I couldn't finish it. Just make a protein smoothie.

Back in my more impressionable days I read Ernie Taylor's column in the back of Flex magazine. He said a quick way of eating tuna is to blend like in the youtube link above.

I got about half way through before I started gagging //shudders at the memory

While this isn't a smoothie I usually add some EV olive oil to my tuna, mix it around, then throw in some orange and yellow peppers, sweetcorn and iceberg lettuce. Makes the tuna less dry and the juice and crunchiness from the veg helps the taste and texture.

I'm wondering if I should have blended my mixture for longer. It wasn't 100% smooth. I will also try next time with tuna in brine or springwater (as opposed to sunflower oil last night). The oily tuna and milk may have hit the wrong spot.

I'll try out the pineapple one in the next few days and report back.

Diet coke is just sh1t though, just nasty chemicals I dont really wanna be putting in my body on a regular basis - TBH, just eat the Tuna as it is. It's not ideal, but it's gotta be better than mixing it with Milk or Cola.

I have no probs eating tuna straight from the can - averaging a can a day.

I had already eaten a can of tuna before my blender experiment last night. Had a long-ish work out that morning and wanted a second tin whilst in my creative mood.

That is disgusting. I feel sick just hearing the words 'tuna' and 'smoothie' in the same sentence. Could you not just eat the tin of tuna, and then just drink a regular smoothie? :D

If you're looking for something tasty and high in protein, could it not just be a tuna sandwich, chicken sandwich, etc? Trying for force meats into a smoothie just to say it's a smoothie sounds.....revolting. imagine a chicken smoothie actually....it'd have to be better then tuna at least.

I just eat my meat protein at dinner/lunch and drink the odd soya protein drink made with milk as a snack...

You are going to try it again

Sounds like something a bunch of drunken kids would make up as a dare to drink!

Are you trying to skull it in one go or actually make a nice drink. Curry sauce will mask its taste, if I HAD to drink liquidised tuna it would be with curry sauce. Or maybe just mix it in with soup, I think baxters do a nice lobster soup, might go well with that.

Tuna Smoothie? That's just sick! And by sick I don't mean in a cool hip hopitty way, I mean in a WTF is wrong with you man??!?!? Hell, while you're at it why don't you just lob in a couple of chicken breasts?

    I'm off to be sick!!

Tonight I lobbed the following into the blender:
    • 1 cup of natural yoghurt
    • 1 banana
    • 1 can of tuna (with the brine totally sqashed out of it)
    • 1 cup of milk

The result wasn't too bad to be honest. The sweetness of the banana mixed with yoghurt actually offset the fishy tuna taste.

I also made sure to blend with a moveable blender neck, as opposed to a static one which stays at the same height (last week the static blender height left the tuna lumpy).

I think my tuna smoothie recipe is nearing perfection.

A tuna smoothie. YUK. I ordered a smoothie once from a shop. Just a normal smoothie. It tasted of fish. That was sickening. I never asked for fish in it.
