I just happened to come across the typical training week of an olympic level Bulgarian lifter and was once again reminded how sick these guys are for their volume...

    On Monday, Wednesday and Friday....

    9am-10am: Snatch

    10am-10.30am: Rest

    10.30am-11.30am: Clean and Jerk

11.30am-12.30pm: Exercise (I believe this to be squats, stretching, prehab and general "bodybuilding" type stuff)

    12.30pm-5pm: Rest

    5pm-6pm: Exercise

    6pm-6.30pm: Rest

    6.30pm-8.30pm: Exercise

Total Training Time Per Day: 6 hours

    On Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

    9am-10am: Snatch

    10am-10.30am: Rest

    10.30am-11.30am: Clean and Jerk

    11.30am-1pm: Exercise

    1pm-5pm: Rest

    5pm-5.30pm: Exercise

    5.30-6pm: Rest

    6pm-6.30pm: Exercise

Total Training Time Per Day 4.5 hours

    Absolutely sick....

But how could they progress if they spend more than an hour in the gym lol!

Is this is offseason/compcycle or just a general idea of their training?

    Steroids ftw!

Also do note they never spend more then one hour in the gym at one time. In line with current thinking about training multiple times is better then one big session as it allows for coricosteroids to decline enough to make strength gains.

Also I would like to point out I do about the same if not more training in one day when in college :P

And nobody else does steroids?

These are the parts that non-Eastern Europeans miss. The most critical part of any training regime.

    Jesus Christ.

These guys spend more time in a gym per week busting ass than most people do in a month, but the reason they're world champions are steroids?

I'm truly astounded. Digusted. Shocked. I don't even know how to react.

Thats frightening training I wouldnt last 5 minutes with that regime

Hanley did they give any indications to the food they eat I would imagine they consume alot of food to fuel those workouts?

the biggest weightlifting nations are extremely well advanced medically. After every session the are tested for deficiences in vits& minerals. They use every supplement under the sun.
Recovery is an art form to them almost as important as the snatch itself.
They also know a lot about steroids but to put it all down to just that is really delusional.

Imagine a genetically gifted baby. Fast twitch fibers, Perfect leverage via tendon insertion points etc.
He starts playing with technique balance flexability aged three. His coach is an Olmpic medallist. He first competes aged 8.
Hardwired nueral system. He becomes a pro at 15. Perfect training, no work, no distractions, Perfect nutrition, supplementation. Very nice salary.
    Wealthy supportive federation.
High standard team to train with,
    His name is Kolecki

From irish weightlifitng site by a guy who trained with him...

These guys are preordained supermen. Far beyond any of our capabilities. Snatch more than 400lbs at 17? There is no steroid/drug in the world powerful enough to make an normal joe do that!

You can't beat a snatch @9 in the morning ;)

What about work!! I know they are pros. When do they eat though as I suspect rest time must also be eating time! Some bill at Super Valu I suspect

I know we've had our differences but that is a really good point.

These guys are the elite. The 1 in a million. They get where they are because basically it's what they're destined to do.

And lets not for one second attempt to put their progress down to "Steroids". They train like that because it's their live. In fact I train in the same gym as one of Irelands top weightlifters, he spend a year over in Bulgaria training in the OTCs and he made the greatest gains of his life. I don't remember exact numbers, but we're talkng 20+% increases and then some. He did it drug free.

Here's a nice quote from a Bulgarian champion... "my life is very rich and diversified. It consists of 5 parts - training, compeition, flights, sleep and meals".

    That's why they're champions.
