Kilkenny, their skill and experience far out weighs Limerick.

Limericks intensity and hunger might shade it.

I have ten euro on Limerick, so I suppose I will have to go with them. But I do seriously reckon Limerick could sneak this one, Kilkenny have not been tested this year and I am sure that they are in for a serious one this weekend, one which hopefully they will hopefully not come through.

    COME ON LIMERICK!!!

i'd be very surprised if it did, though. people often underestimate kilkenny's intensity and i think they'll cope a lot better with limerick's all-out first 15 minutes than Waterford did and be in a lot better position to take advantage when the game settles down a bit... kilkenny for me without too much danger

Love to see Limerick do it but not sure they have another performance like SF in them. Nothing against KK but just boring seeing them beat everyone by 10 pts this year.....

Would really love to see limerick do it, but I can't see Kilkenny losing it. Absolutely phemominal team. Undoubtably Limerick will be hungry, but I don't think it will be enough.

Went with the head and said Kilkenny. Id say it will be close but KK simply have too much quality as opposed to the heart and determination Limerick have shown. Often heart can win it but i dont think its gonna be enough this time.

Went with heart and Limerick. Surprised to see its so close so far.

as am i. Had i gone with heart it would be Limerick also. Would love to see them do it. I would have expected at least 80% going with KK tbh.

How many people wrote off Limerick before the Waterford match. Limerick are used to battles and may have enough in them to win this "war". Remember too that Kilkenny have been beaten already this year by Waterford. The Cats have had a soft enough path to the All Ireland.

Being from Limerick I'm gonna go with my county. The best of luck to Limerick.

On a positive note it was fantastic driving through Limerick city and county today and see lots of green everywhere. Nearly every second car has a Limerick flag flying with pride.

    Come on Limerick.

In stark contrast to Limerick there are nearly no colours up around Kilkenny, The usual houses are decked out but you would not think the county was in an All Ireland Final.

Kilkenny havent been tested this year and that is my biggest worry, Limerick deserve to be there and have come through some savage matches. I just hope the occasion doesnt get to them.

It better be a good game though at €70 a ticket.

Ya should have made this poll public, would love to see who's giving Limerick all them votes! I'm not a big hurling fan, but my uncle played for the Tipperary senior team for years (he's retired now) and studies hurling like a religion now in his spare time. Knows everything about it, down to the blade of grass. Basically he told us that the current Kilkenny team are far too strong to lose that match and it would take an absolute miracle for (Limerick) for it to happen.

The match against Waterford, even Waterford hit something like 19 wides (it was obvious they were tired playing their 3rd intense matches in 15 days). The fact they were allowed hit those wides (+ the 15 pts, 2 goals Waterford did score) shows a problem to me in Limerick's fullback line. Kilkenny's forwards simply won't miss that many points.

A lot of people want Limerick to win simply because they're sick of seeing Cork & Kilkenny in the final all the time. But I'm of the opinion that I hope the better team wins. It will be better for hurling in the long run.

My prediction for the match is Limerick to go ahead by 2-3 points at the start, then Kilkenny will annihilate them.

    Kilkenny 2-25 Limerick 1-11

Well, i hope the better team wins also.....but i hope its Limerick, just for a bit of variation. Would be good to see a bit more proper compatition up there.

Partly true about the soft path Kilkenny have had this summer. Galway really put it up to them for 55 mins in the QF, but fell apart after the first Kilkenny goal. As for the final, I can't see a team who only scored 11 points in the semi being able to outscore the Cats. Ok, Limerick scored 5 goals in that match, but there is not much chance of a repeat against the Cats defence.

Score prediction ? A little closer than BrandonBlocks.

    Kilkenny 3-19 Limerick 1-14.

    Kilkenny 2-25 Limerick 1-11

Its not Wexford that Kilkenny are playing on Sunday. ;)

Its going to be a hell of a lot closer than that. If Limerick lose, they'll go down fighting for all their worth. People have written off Limerick at every stage this season, yet they're still in the Final. This could be their only final in the next 5-10 years so they're going to give it a good rattle. Of course Limerick have a chance to win this. Kilkenny are not invincible.

The two teams have met only 8 times in the Championship. 4 wins each. So, Limerick won't fear them like most teams do. Plus Limerick will match them physically, which again a lot of teams wouldn't.

    Limerick 2-18 Kilkenny 2-16

    C'mon Limerick!!!!!!!

KK for me but if limerick can get the goals as they did against waterford then they have a great chance!

    Brandonblock,

I don't think a person who has played hurling or football at any level whether it is under-age level or intercounty and all levels in between could possibly know everything about the game whether it is prediction or form etc and that is no disrespect intended to you or your uncle. He must have been extremely agile, gifted and resilient to keep a place on the Tipperary team.If Limerick win they will do so because they were the better team and had the reserves to beat Kilkenny on that day not because they were miracuously lucky.Kilkenny are not the type of team to be beaten by pure luck.

It is a common mistake to compare like with like but Limerick did beat the team that beat Kilkenny in a League Final.More relevently though you mentioned the fact that Waterford had so many wides.I think Limerick will have had enough time to realise this and do something about it.If it is the case that Waterford were the better team they would have put Limerick away with no problem but they didn't and Limerick did well to pull away after Waterfords comeback.

Also there is the issue of who has been tested or not.Kilkenny have enjoyed an easier path to the Final no doubt but does that really matter?Kerry last year lost to Cork in the Munster Final, played Longford and came back to beat Cork who were weakened and then trounced Mayo while Mayo had Galway,Laois twice and a tough game against Dublin.

I'd agree with your uncle on the Kilkenny prediction but if Limerick win they will do so with proper team-work,skill and determination.

Kilkennys strength, skill & fitness are superior to Limericks but in an amature game sometimes hunger and willingness to fight are more important. Would love to see Limerick do it but I just can't see it happening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,801 ✭✭✭✭Kojak

I'd like to see Limerick win, just to make a difference but honestly I can't see it happening.

If Limerick give as many scoring opportunities to KK as they did to Waterford, the they will be beaten out the gate by 1/2 time.

They will have to stay with KK for the full 70 minutes (not like Galway who thought the game was over on 60 minutes) and they will also have to convert a huge % of their own scoring chances.

As you can see, a lot of things have to go right IMO for Limerick to win. So on the basis that it wont all work out for them I think the final score will be something like..

    KK 3-18 Limerick 1-14

I would beg to differ on the fitness of Kilkenny over Limerick. Limerick have shown how fit they are.

As for the strenght and skill we really wont know until Sunday and we can discuss it till we are blue in the face. Richie Bennis was asked after the Waterford match "did you not read the script?"

Well it seems that Limerick are writing a script of their own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,742 ✭✭✭blackbelt

Yes I have to say that the way some people and the media were going,it was supposed to be a Waterford v Kilkenny final but Limerick changed all that.Lets hope its not a case of Mayoitis and that we get a good game whatever the outcome.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,048 ✭✭✭Amazotheamazing

Being realistic, Kilkenny are going to win, it's only a question of how much. As a Limerickman, I hope Limerick at least stay competitive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,166 ✭✭✭✭Zzippy

I've a cousin on the Limerick team so I really hope they can do it, but the head says Kilkenny. Limerick will have to play out of their skins, even better than they did against Waterford, and will definitely have to score at least 3 goals to have a chance, but fingers crossed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭Cheese Princess

Limerick will have the support of 31 counties on Sunday. It would be great for the championship if they won.
I think they can match Kilkenny for fitness but Kilkenny have the best subs bench in the country which always stands to them.
Limerick might have the hunger but no-one had more hunger than Waterford this year and they didn't make it.
Hopefully Kilkenny will put in the same performance as they did against Cork in the 2004 final when they just choked and died.

    My prediction - a draw :p

You just dont know what could happen on the day though. The best hurling match I was ever at was when Galway beat Kilkenny in Croker. Even when we were travelling up we were thinking, were going to get absolutely hammered, but the tribes won on the day! :D

I know a lot of people agree with this but personally, I just don't see the logic.

In terms of what's good or bad for the championship, I don't think there's anything wrong with a great Kilkenny team (which this team has been over the last couple of years) raising the bar (along with Cork) for the rest of the teams and winning multiple All-Irelands - if other teams aren't up to the same standard, then they won't win.

The standard of the top few teams (mainly two) has gotten better and better the last 5/6 years and if the rest rise up to that level, then that'll be GREAT for the Championship. It'll surprise me f Limerick win but if they do, they should win because they deserve it and because they show that they're every bit as good as Kilkenny - not because Kilkenny don't turn up on the day (that would NOT be good for the championship)

Also, for those saying that Limerick beat the team that beat Kilkenny in the League final, remember they also lost to the team that beat Kilkenny in the League final :) ... and were ten points down to the team that lost to the team that Kilkenny have hockeyed twice this year - so basically, i don't think previous results are that reliable a guide

Of course. Jaysus, we wouldn't want Kilkenny just turning up and saying there you's go, you's haven't won since 73, you's deserve it.:D

Like Clare, Offaly and Galway before in the 80's 90's it will be because they deserve it. Sometimes seeing another county winning brings belief to other so called weaker counties.

Football's the same. Down in 91 helped Donegal, Derry and later Armagh and Tyrone.

Being a Kilkenny man I have to say that I hope Kilkenny win, but I think more importantly that it is a cracking game, last thing anyone wants is to see a team hammered on the day, where's the enjoyment in that, I would rather lose by a point in the last second of the game than see Kilkenny hammer Limerick or vice versa and as a few people pointed out the only Team that deserves to win is the Team that does the job on the day so no more of this it would be great for the Championship for Limerick to win and Kilkenny to choke.

right, i voted for Limerick - but its not just my heart!!

Limerick should have LOST at least 3 of their matches this season, but didnt. They seem to do better when written off - please keep this up - it will mke them stronger!!

Limerick play with a fire in their belly and an intensity that has yet to be equalled by any team this year (possible exception of waterford - thought not consistantly), with self belief, limerick can and will upset the cats as well as the bookies.

The majority of this team won at under 21, beating every other team, inclusing Kilkenny

Kilkenny can and have been beaten in the past, IT CAN AND WILL HAPPEN THIS SUNDAY

A lot of people in the poll are gone for Limerick. The poll said who do you think will win,not who do you want. This current Kilkenny team's skill is vastly superior to any other team in the country.Henry Shefflin and Martin Comerford are two fantastic forward and they will deal great damage.limerick have no forwards near the calibre. My heart says limerick but i can only see one winner.

    Kilkenny 3-15 limerick 1-13

Going for Kilkenny too. Simple reason. They wont hit 17 wides. And they wont let Limerick get 5 goals. And Kilkenny know not to get the physical aspect of Limericks game get to them.

    Kilkenny 2-18 Limerick 0-16

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭aidan24326

Can't see past Kilkenny myself. I'm just hoping like every neutral that Limerick can at least make a real good game of it and that KK don't pull away. I'd be expecting Limerick to really get stuck in early on but Galway threw the kitchen sink at the cats and it wasn't good enough once KK stepped up a gear in last 10 mins. And IMO Limerick aren't really any better than Galway. Tougher and harder maybe, but Kilkenny will be well able for that. They're just the best team around at the moment and that's all there is to it.

Limerick will have to produce the performance of their lives to win this one. Not impossible, but realistically all the signs point to Kilkenny.

I'd say something like Kilkenny 2-19 Limerick 1-15

    EDIT:The scoreline I'd love to see - Limerick 5-16 Kilkenny 5-15!!

My heart says Limerick, but my head says Kilkenny. Kilkenny should win it comfortably in terms of it being a game of skill, but that's not all of what Hurling is about. The weather could be the deciding factor as it was for Cork in 1999 - it was a poor final and Kilkenny were hampered by the conditions on the day.

One cliche met by another. It was the same pitch for both teams! They played on the same day and last but not least and so true, the scoreboard never lies!:D

If a team was that skillful the weather or pitch wouldn't matter. They could play on any pitch. More they just aren't ready for a battle.

    Kilkenny: 1: 16
    Limerick: 2: 15

Shaughs to roast Tyrell, score at least 0.11 & get MOTM
    Donie to get a goal
Begs to break even with Hickey (which would do just grand!)
    Ollie to dominate Brian Hogan
Reale to get Booked in first 20 mins
Mike O'Brien to get a part in the next season of 24 in place of Jack Bower
40,000 limerick people to go f**king bananas as reale holds Liam aloft!!!!!!!!

As a Kilkenny man, I am feeling increasingly nervy about this final. Was watching back during the week some of limericks play against Tipp and Waterford. They seem to be extremely fit, and an absolute must for the Kilkenny backs is to keep someone tight on o'shaughnessy. My first prediction was 3-19., 1-14 to Kilkenny, but i'm gonna revise that a little.....

    Kilkenny 2-20 Limerick 1-16

Disappointing game overall. Kilkenny won without being at their best or even needing to be. Limerick's full forward line were cleaned out and not helped by the poor quality of ball going into them. Kilkenny's defence superb all through. Hard luck to Limerick, being a Galwayman I'm well aware what it's like to lose finals but their chance will come again. The best team in the country have won the All-Ireland so no complaints. I wouldn't bet against them for the 3 in a row.

EDIT: Forgot to say well done to Kilkenny. A class team. They've set the standard now and it's up to every other team, Cork,Tipp,Waterford,Galway etc. to rise to KK's level if they're good enough. The strength of Kilkenny's panel is awesome. They have 5 or 6 subs who'd walk on most teams.

Aye i was in town watching the match, kilkenny were the better team. Euphoria when we got our goal, i thought we were on our way back but we gave the ball away too cheaply and gave away stupid free's and we got punsihed for it.

Great match, some accurate and spot-on predictions there lads! And fair play to Limerick getting back into it after going 2-3 - 0-1 down, but they were never gonna beat Kilkenny. I'm off to collect my winnings ;-D
