Yeah i am sure there was a thread about this, not sure.

Anyway, i read up about this stuff. I forget it all now. I did not try to remember it cause i reckoned that when the final product come out it will be a little be different, so i will buy a mac magazine and i will come in here for help then.
I reckon i will upgrade to this after xmas. I will wait for the mac experts in here to report back and i will read up about it then.

The irc app is Colloquy, best irc client on the mac imo. And if you look in the irc window he actually lists what apps he's using to create his desktop: ipulse, coversutra, windowshade and uno. I use Uno as well but I'm not familiar with the others, must check them out though.

that's delicious library it's quite possibly the most inovative piece of software i've used as you can catalogue any DVD/CD with scanning the barcode in using your isight.

i downloaded that software, it's pretty sweet!

although i'm struggling to find a use for it other than the "wow" factor! what do you use it do after you've scanned in all your CD's/DVD's??

    cheers

i use it to keep track of who i give out dvd's/cd's to for a lend. you can set up lenders and say they have which dvd's etc.

i don't have any hacked software on my mac, everything in my dock i paid for, i have no hold ups paying $40 for the likes of delicious library as it's a great program and fairly original.

parallels though is just the demo, i want to get the fusion demo and see which is the best.

Just something I noticed... many of you have little or no shortcuts on you desktop (not dock), such as music, home folders etc... is there some finder shortcut I'm missing out on that yee all use???

Also... how the hell do yee guys see your dock icons?! Most are so bloody small! Yee must have wopper screens??? 17" MBPs or iMacs me thinks?? I only have a 13" MB so only have 10 or so dock icons big enough to stop me squinting.... I suppose its something you get used to after using mac a while??

Will post up mine later after work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

well most of my files are in my home directory. i don't need direct access to them that often so i just open a new finder window (cmd+n) and go from there. i usually just edit/use the files from the program for them eg. itunes/neo office/eclipse etc.

I don't use folder shortcuts at home, just hit finder from the dock. Use aliases at work, for more obscure folders.

15" - I kinda know exactly where each app is on my dock at this stage but I do use the magnification setting so my dock grows on a mouseover though. And... I have seen MUCH worse than the ones posted here. There is one person at work and every app on their machine must be on their dock, its madness

There is a program called 'Quicksilver' which sorts that problem out for me, you open it with a hotkey and then type the first letter or 3 of the programs/folders name and then hit enter, opens it up and works like a dream.

Or just click on the current flag that is showing, and 'open international' you can choose as many options as you like. If no flag is currently appearing then follow what Moe said. :)

Well I work for the company so I'm a little biased, but yip.. they really are great and definitely work.

I actually injured myself 7 years ago in a motorbike accident and can't do any weights etc but my Powerball keeps my arms nicely toned and in shape :)

Also, work on a computer for 14-15 hours a day so am a prime candidate for RSI etc but have never suffered from it.. using my Powerball now for 9 years - yaay for them! :D

I used to work fixing Macs and its amazing the number of ppl who had it on US.. not to mind UK.. it would drive you mad trying to type the @ symbol!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,163 ✭✭✭ZENER

Another issue to remember is that the spell checker in Word wont work with an Irish keyboard and country set to Ireland. The 'fix' is to set it to UK English

I'd be too embarrassed to post my current desktop, it may offend those with a delicate constitution :D

Here is my new setup on my new MBP 15" 2.2GHz 4gb ram. I don't know why people have all their apps in the dock? Spotlight makes it incredibly easy to find any program you need to get at. Only frequently used apps would be in my dock and the others I use in bootcamp(3dsmax and autocad).

I'm also using UNO to theme everything.

Only frequently used apps are in my dock, I just happen to use a variety of apps on a regular basis. Thats what happens when you work with a variety things I guess!
