Right, I think rather than setting up a new thread every time someone finds a recording they like, people can post all their cool links in this one.

The clip from Dido was wonderful, a really fresh interpretation (big thanks for that). The Jeff Buckley performance of the Lament also sounds fascinating: any idea where to hear it?

A great (sound-only) version of Beethoven's Waldstein sonata played fabulously by the Russian pianist Emil Gilels (one of my favourite Beethoven pianists, but very unsung on boards.ie):

Love the Waldstein, but the best I've ever heard was Francois-Frederick Guy when I saw him at the National Concert hall. Still, its an impressive piece and anyone who plays it is a hero!

Actually, I keep hearing somebody practicing in college, and I keep meaning to tell them how good it sounds. Who ever it is has that soaring intro down perfectly.

Funky Penguin — Which college do you go to?

I'd learn the Waldstein only it's not worth the effort. Like the Hammerklavier. Well, it WOULD be worth it, but not at this stage when I have enough other things to be learning.

You might be interested to know that the wonderful Turkish pianist Idil Biret has a full recording of that on her website, along with the rest of the concert from 21st October 1993, and various other albums. www.idilbiret.org and http://www.idilbiret.net/Archive/musicarchive01.htm

Anyways, another underestimated pianist: here's a video only of Tatyana Nikolayeva playing the allemande from Bach's French Suite No. 4. And, as a bonus, you get a comparison of Gould playing it as well. (In about a quarter of the time, mind.)
