  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Is it Booterstown Marsh you're talking about?

EDIT: yeah.. the bodies wouldn't help with the smell either...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,980 ✭✭✭meglome

I'm not supposed to tell anyone, but the members of Leixlip town council came up with the idea of moving the smell in Leixlip to another town.
Looks like they settled on Blackrock.

    Seaweed??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 261 ✭✭redtom

yeah its the seaweed, and its worse than that godawful stench that emanates from the guinness brewery, if that is possible - used to work in blackrock and evry now and again that swamp-thing, mucusy, foul odour would waft across the village and make me want to puke...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,166 ✭✭✭✭Zzippy

Rotting seaweed. Full moon this week so spring tides - more shore exposed, more seaweed rotting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,331 ✭✭✭✭bronte

so THAT'S where the smell went in leixlip (not) :D
(I'm actually smiling though the pain)

Theres a similar stech in Clontarf most days and further up coast when wind is southerly. Comes from sewer pipes entering Dublin Bay and the Sewerage plant in Ringsend where your rings' waste ends up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,082 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

    It's Booterstown without a doubt.

    Man that place stinks.

Blackrock? Have you been to Leixlip? Leixlip = stinky winky at the end of the village (ozone)....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,497 ✭✭✭✭Dragan

It's the smell of success wouldn't you know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,331 ✭✭✭✭bronte

I used to work in the ozone...used to cry every time I had to clean the smoking area, the smell was so bad.
It was meant to be fixed by the end of august but I wouldn't bet on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

Note: The smell has nothing to do with the Ozone. It's from a dodgy pipe near the Rye, on the other side of the street.

Ah they are sorting it out, they're re-routing pipes in Leixlip. They used to just dump chemicals in. Ever smell it on a hot WINDY day? It used to reach my school...a good bit away.

Eeeww Leixlip stench, just reminded of coming home from In-hell on a Friday when the traffic would be brutal and you'd have to sit there without breathing for 5 minutes.

    Festival week is the best.
Lots of tourists nearly puking on a hot Sunday afternoon. All you can do is laugh.

Do the locals become immune to it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

    I wouldn't think so.
Mind you, I'm rarely down that way, so it still affects me when I do pass by it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,432 ✭✭✭Steve_o

    Teen Spirit ?

I almost made it through the day with no Nirvana references, almost, dammit all........i'm going drinking!!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,331 ✭✭✭✭bronte

Don't think leixlip locals are immune to the stink...I've been here 23 years and it still gets me. tis fun to watch the visitors try to cope with it at festival time alright :D Someone'd make a fortune selling nosepegs!

    I don't think they did a good job :(

All these people knowing about the Leixlip smell, are we really that famous?

Put a cosmetics factory there to rid the area of the stinkweed.
