Evil Clowns or Spooky Little Girls? '_'

    What's scarier?

Thinking about some of the more conventional protagonists in Horror, the idea of of evil clowns or spooky little girls seem so much more terrifying than the conventions of old, such as Dracula and the Wolfman.

I'm fairly certain that "IT" has given loads of us here nightmares over the years, but there's a lot to be said about those creepy little girls in The Shining for example, or in films like Dark Water and Silent Hill, or if you must, the remake of Ring (Sadako was an adult in the original).

So what does it for you?

clowns are never scary, just pathetic

    Clowns defo!

Spooky girls are only little kids that could be sorted with a good sharp kick, whereas a clown has a myriad of tricks and **** that they can pull plus those pointy teeth IT had......:(

Evil clowns just look stupid. What about Kirstin Dunst in interview with a vampire?

Do the spider babies in Doom 3 count as scary? :(

I'm suprised at anyone doubting the fear inducing power of clowns. I'm still creeped out by "It" to this day.

There's even a condition called Coulrophobia.

    Little girls FTW!

The Shining is the only film that has ever genuinely scared me.

A certain generation seems to have been affected by seeing IT as a kid though... Have you watched it recently? It's pretty cheaply made and all a bit silly.

I was waiting for someone to say "(scary) little girls do it for me" so I could report them to the Internet Police. You ruined it. Ugh. I mean, really, ugh.

Good question! I used to have a genuine fear of clowns. I was terrified at the circus when i was about 4. Especially when the clown decided to run towards where we were sitting. I bolted screaming. That was before I saw it. But I have to say, the 'won't you come play with us, Danny? twins in the shining, is one of the scariest, imprinting scenes ever.

I have to go for the ghost of Carl Weathers here. Scary little girls were scary in The Shining, but have been done to death by now and are pretty standard fare these days, and the clown in It didn't scare me at all. Only The Fly/The Thing/Aliens have really scared me.

How about both at the same time?

Where the hell did that come from?

For me, it's clowns. You can't be laughed at all your life and remain sane!

I´m going to say little girls, the grudge terrified me (though I only saw the Japanese original and that had a little boy, they´re pretty much the same as little girls only with dangly bits)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,005 ✭✭✭Creature

Neither one has ever really been scary to me. Now Carl Weathers moustache on the other hand...

More so than evil clowns and spooky little girls? I must be doing something really wrong.

Don't worry though, I still haven't posted in that celebrity/showbiz forum, so I think causality is safe for now.

Hmm, I'm suprised the little girls are winning out on this one, I didn't suspect people found them scarier than clowns. I know one fellow in real life that's terribly afraid of clowns. Although, I did vote Carl Weathers myself. ;)

Don't mind Clowns, tho I didn't see IT till I was about 16-17 so I guess I wasn't conditioned like some!
The little girl thing is a bit overdone but can be scary. Was done well in F.E.A.R. alright.

What about the spider bit in DOOM3? Where you have to crawl thru the tunnel and you see the shadow of something scurrying past up ahead...

Clowns definitely. Little girls are sinister - particularly if they're really pale with blonde hair and watery blue eyes (the same goes for little boys with those features incidentally) but clowns are actually terrifying - Pennywise obviously, and didn't John Wayne Gacy dress up as a clown?
Although I wouldn't want to f*ck with the scary kids in Children of the Damned or The Innocents.
But the little girls in The Shining and the little girl (and boy) in The Others are freaky but fairly harmless (I'd say...)

Clowns definitely, and they don't even have to be evil (or at least more evil than your typical clown).

Many years ago I was out cycling with a friend.
We were cycling down the avenue towards Castletown house in Celbridge and my friend stopped to tie his lace.
All of a sudden a little girl emerged from the woods. She was crying and looking for her mother. We told her that we didn't know where her mother was, asked her where she lived, etc.
She walked back into the woods and we followed to try to help her.

Between the time it took us to lay our bikes down and go into the woods after her, she had disappeared. It freaked us out. My friend convinced me she was a ghost. We got back on our bikes and got the **** out of there.

That was nowhere as near as scary as the time a clown kicked me up the arse though.

Dont worry terry, as long as she didnt have a pale complexion and long straight black hair then you're ok! ;)
