Its illegal to sell Irish camo. Afaik its also against some regulation or another to wear it while not on duty or on your way to barracks.

as above, however, get some french stuff, which is identical except for a slight shade difference and swap the french flags for irish flags and it will loo the same.

That was one great stall. Got the guts of a British PLCE webbing set up for 18 euro

Included a yolk, belt and five pouches. Not bad. I'd have bought more but I needed money for the bus

    Is it on tomorrow?

It is indeed. Some of the webbing pouches need a little work but still, for the price they're going for. Even the yolk alone was a steal at 2 quid.

Couple of the other lads were getting DPM combats for a fiver.

Anyone selling you it here would be committing a crime. I'm pretty sure its also a crime for civilians to wear it, but I'm no garda officer so who knows.

The pattern is not legally available commercially. Therefore it is illegal to sell. A lot of the stuff which is being sold has usually been stolen. So I was informed.

It's illegal for civilians to wear.

If you really REALLY want it, join the defense forces. Other than that, stay away.

Still illegal for him to wear it if he's not in the military.

Apologies if I'm seeming pedantic or over the top, it's just we have to try and remain squeaky clean on here with the level of people who read it.

If something is illegal, you really can't be offering it to people.

But anyway, back to the Surplus store at Salute. Anyone else pick up anything interesting?

Gonna have to check this out tomorrow.... Anyone have any suggestions on what a nubbin should get? :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Hivemind187

Got a whole bunch of stuff while rumaging around in the big box of DPM joy.

Near as I can figure I picked up a mag pouch, a Y-yolke, a respirator pouch a canteen pouch and a module for a hydration unit. Sweet as my length.

    (sorry, extremely drunk right now)

Good stuff, lots of gear that is either wrecked or has grunts names on it, however, considering it is all surplus and old stock there are some absolute jems for anyone willing to dig a bit.

Oisin damn near got a whole rig out of it. It would be grat if he had the mags to put in it too :p

Well impressed, thanks to the guy running it.

How did the Demo go? Any pics of Videos? Much Interest in playing the sport. Tied up so cannot go.

    In a word....fantastic.

No negative comments, no hassle from anyone. Lots of men & women who wanted to give it a try. Shiva going to have a huge increase in customers.

Airsoft was hugely popular. At one point, about 50% of the people at the show where at our tent. It was busy for pretty much the entire day.

The shocking thing was just how many kids already have airsoft guns. And some were walking up to the table and able to name every one of the AEG's, explain what a hop-up is etc. Their parents were standing next to them so I can only assume they approve. I get the impression that most were only allowed to use them in the back garden etc.

Most shocking memory was a 6 year old asking if I knew what internet site sold hi cap mags for his G36! I had a word with his parents about the appropriateness of airsoft for someone his age, but they seemed happy for him to have it and said he was very safe with them.

    2nded and 3pled.

Paul's gonna be a busy man, too, and that can only be a good thing for the lot of us generally.

Soz I couldn't stay the whole day (and make the BIG demo - well hacked @ that), but lil' one got really REALLY terrible with the blank firing during the small demo and we just had to go (no way to get her calmed down).

Remember making a joke that the organisers wouldn't have us back next year, as we were pretty much stealing the entire show alright!!! :D

[hint, hint, wink, wink]the organisers might consider an airsoft-only event, then[/hint, hint, wink, wink]

Update on the webbing I got (just in case anyone else did)

The colouring on the pouches looked really really faded when I bought it. Thought that would explain why they're so cheap.

It's not actually faded, it's dirt and mud. I just put five of the pouches through the wash and they all came out nice and green. Hurrah!

All the buckles and links on the back are fine. They all attached to a soldier 95 belt perfectly.

The only problem with them is the buckles on the front are all broken in some way or other. They have velcro on them though so that should work. Although I hope to eventually find some more secure way of keeping them closed.

The yolk is actually for attaching to bergens and respirator pouches. So I had to buy a new one on ebay for a tenner.

Still though..16 euro for a PLCE belt + 5 pouches was a steal. Cant wait to try them out.

    "our tent"

does that mean there was an AIRSOFT display?
Under whose name was the AIRSOFT display organised?
Was this an IAA approved display?

Was "our tent" an IAA tent or a "HRTA/Na Taibhse" tent......

    EDIT-Spelling

It seemed be a HRTA tent. There was a great display there with LOADS of guns.

I did a 160 kg one of these in the gym last week, 36 of them in fact. There was some muppet there at the time with a big grin and a look, you know that look someone gives when they think they're too cool/good to do what you're doing. Point I'm making, no matter how good a job you do there will always be some gob****e saying 'poser' or 'I R Real solider, you're all just playing', trying to run your achievement down. I doubt anyone at the stand cares.

not even going to justify that comment with a response...

anyway, Salute went very well for the airsoft stand (HRTA/Na Taibhse/Madrai ar seachtain/etc...) and we turned out to be one of the most popular tents at the show with a constant flow of people all day long.

I will second that. I was there from about 12 today with a mate of mine and the HRTA/Airsoft tent was swamped all day. Barely got near the thing before the Airsoft display kicked off. Must say that it was pretty impressive to see that many people interested. Nice array of airsoft on display too.

The rest of the place was pretty good too. The retailers seemed to still have a good choice of stuff there and it was all reasonably priced. Didn't buy anything though (unless a cone counts:D )

Well done to everyone who was there.

I believe there was some camera phone footage taken by Adrian during one of the airsoft displays. Not sure, but I think it was taken using Johnny's phone.

There were photographers there today as well. One from The Star newspaper, so check it out for the next few days.

The stand was basically a large tent (30x25 feet approx). We put some of our AEG's/Bolt action sniper rifles on three tables at the front that the public could hold (unloaded, with no batteries). Mick brought up about a dozen AEG's and had them tied to some railings on display as well. We handed out the IAA press release, some flyers with airsoft info/popular retailers (great work kdouglas on them) and some rather quickly printed cards with the url's for hrta, eirsoft and this forum.

As for being IAA sanctioned, well O1S1N was there...so I guess it got the thumbs up.

A big thank you to everyone that participated. The Stray Dogs, Na Taibhse, Mick and anyone else that showed up. An extra special 'thank you' goes to Paul. Without him, this would not have happened. I won't tell you what he had to do to get a loan of the tent.... Paul also provide the tables and free bottles of water. What more can you ask from a guy?

Overall, this was a great weekend for airsoft in Ireland. The public are really interested in Airsoft but only a few knew it was legal. Expect to see a lot more new players over the next few weeks. The only downside is that some of the kids there were better dressed than us

Overall, this was a great weekend for airsoft in Ireland.

Again, 2-ded and 3-pled. Probably the 'first', in a way - the sport came out of the closet, away from the very few unitiated to meet'n'greet the wider public: now we just gotta see what kind of further attention it gets... hopefully much, much more good than bad :)

Its pretty much standard practice to rub the local dirt/sand/mud in to webbing to take the new look off them and cammo them up. So if you going for the authentic look dont clean them up!!

Sounds like the yoke you got is for the rocket pouches. Respirator pouch goes on to the belt and bergins just go on via the shoulder straps of the bergin.

I was there on Saturday all looked good but needs to be bigger to hold the crowds. Dont think despite the obvious success of the airsoft side of it that there will be an airsoft only show in the next few years. Wouldnt draw the general public the same way.

Did Paul find the missing M4?

Giving away what ypu don't own is still stealing and I guarantee that if airsofters start going around in Irish uniform it will draw the wrong kind of attention. One paintballer has already been delt with for this very reason.
