Nope, freshers week is during a week of lectures, the early, not so important lectures.

Orientation is about health and safety, money, finding your way about, where to go for help etc...

Caps Lock can be located here.

I think you read that wrong. It's orienteering. I give you a map and you try get out of DCU without getting slapped by some lad from Ballymun

Orientation week isn't as boring as their making it sound! It's a great laugh, theres loads of fun stuff going on. Can't quite remember exactly what went on for me last year but there was plenty of booze all week! Oh the one thing I remember is the Orientation Ball: there was a comedy/music thing on in the venue (the fellas that are on Ryan Tubridys show cant remember their name!) and then the Blizzards played in the Old Bar.

During the day you get shown around, given advice etc etc but the nighttime is great craic!

Usually horizontal (occasionally vertical, during kegstands).

orientation week = week before lectures where the first years get introduced to the place before most of the other students get back and get to know each other and the campus

freshers week = week two of lectures when clubs and socs days happen and people try and recruit freshers into their clubs and socs and class rep nominations happen, stuff like that

    orientation week
    Week 1
    week 2
    week 3
    week 4
    week 5
week 6 (usually reading week so if you're in Humanities, it's a seven day thing)
    week 7
    week 8
then normally you'll cut back a bit because it's getting to the business end of the semester so you'll maybe want to pretend you're doing some work so it'll be only four nights a week until week 11
then week 12 because you wont be in college again till February.

then the two weeks between week exams finishing and semester two starting.

then repeat again for semester two only it gets a little bit busier for drinking because rag week has to happen and clubs and socs usually don't take off in a huge way till after chrimbo.

orientation week will start on the 17th September, you'll prolly not hear about it for another week or so. I would advise though, even if it say you don't start to Wednesday of that week move up the Sunday before hand and be on-campus as much as possible, there's always a bit of craic to be had and the first few days are great for meeting people as everyone is a lil on their own and scared

orientation is basically so you can get all the getting lost part out of the way and make some mates to go on the p1ss with. cant remember if it was 3 days or 5 or what, only went in for 1 though, it was a pain in the balls if i recall. the ball was good though

unless you're a mature or access student then orientation week is the first time you'll have to be here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭cocoa

well you'll be recieving your "pack" pretty soon anyway (if not tomorrow, then thursday) but if you really can't wait then all the info that's in it is here...

you'll notice there's an "event" every night, starting with manic monday and following the trend of weird uninformative names...
