Dublin Picture Game

Thought I'd try this. If it takes off, fine... if it doesn't, it doesn't.

Here's the rules, a poster posts a picture of Dublin, people guess until someone is right. The winner either posts a picture or forfeits and somebody else steps up and posts a picture.

You have to take the picture yourself (basically, don't take from websites). If it's a neighbourhood picture, take a picture that people can reasonably guess at. Not some back alley or some generic house. And make sure the picture takes in quite a bit (i.e. not a close-up of a bench or something) People just have to guess the neighbourhood, but for a city picture the winner has to name the street.

    I'll start off with one...

is it on the road from town to ringsend/irishtown???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,505 ✭✭✭irlirishkev

Is it Townsend St? Junction at Lombard Street?
If it is, I win, and I'm going to reserve my go for a later date when I actually have my camera with me!

    Sniff, that's Seashell :(

    Kev got it right.

    Woohoo!
Well, like I say, I've no camera, and no pics at hand here in work, so someone else can have my turn!

    Talbot street

that's the one - bottom of Talbot St - Amien St end.....don't recognise the Arch though....????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭Exit

Yeah, correct. I knew that one was too easy.

The arch would be part of the DART line coming from Connolly. I think there was a building in front of which was why it probably wasn't visible before.

    Clown's turn..

Go ahead young man. In work so no access to my photos.
I was nearly going to run around to talbot street and have a look for that arch. couldn't place it.

It's the site of the old 'New Electric' Cinema - later Furniturama.
Lovely bit of stonework in that first picture. They don't make them like that anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭Exit

Ok, this one is likely to be tougher. Or at least I think so anyway.

    Jamestown business park

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭Exit

Nope. I realise this one is difficult so I'll say that it's in the city centre.

Took me all of 5 seconds to look up RE Flanagan in the phone book. How about no business names allowed in future?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭Exit

Yeah, I thought that might be the case after I posted that.

If you're gonna take out photos of businesses, it kinda limits the scope for city centre pictures. How about a "no looking up phonebook/google" rule instead?

    where is this
any chance of a bigger pic, I think I recognise some of the building types.

wild guess would be one of the lanes on abbey street.

I'll have to take a few snaps tomorrow on the way into work and post them up. Can't find any pics on the comp that aren't really obvious.

edit: That lane is really pissing me off now. I know that wall to the right with the projected bottom coarses, the red building at the end of the lane and the car parks, just cant think where the hell it is :(

edit again: Is that looking up towards parnel street (fibbers end) , new hotel and apartment blocks along there now.

you were almost right first time, its the lane that connects the abbey to liberty hall, between abbey street lower and eden quay

We'll to be fair, the OP said no web pics. This one came from the web and the clue was in the file name.

Other than that the site is:

    Nice collection!

Sorry to butt into the thread but HA HA! No it wasn't funeral homes, artist supplies or the likes but wholesale men's clothing specialising in Olymp shirt brand and formerly Peter England shirt brand! He's since retired and sold the business on but the new owners kept the reputable name. They have since moved out of that premises.

I'm still in shock. He used to have me working there from when I was 12 and all through my school years. A lot of happy memories came flooding back when I came across that picture :)

    Good set of pictures!

A looks like it would be in Temple Bar, but that's too vague a guess.
B: Is it Mount Jerome cemetery?
H: I'm pretty sure that's the front of Trinity at College Green.
K looks very familiar to me, but I don't know.
