Bruce Springsteen Tour

Working on the basis that he has always been promoted by Aikens and his friendship with the late Jim Aiken I'm presuming it's ok to talk about a rumoured tour?

Springsteen's already confirmed that he's touring with the E-Street Band at the end of the year after announced details of his new album. Talk in the UK media of him doing a rake of nights at The O2 Arena in November as his only British dates. Wondering if there's anywhere over here that realistically stage a show. The Point is gone whack, nobody would be stupid to try and stage an outdoor gig at that time of the year here? Are we faced with a trip to Belfast at the very least?

It's a joke, Celtic Tiger and all that ****e and we're still left with no credible entertainment or conferencing venue.

Maybe he could play Croker and we'll all brave the cold. Anyhoo, it's not as cold here in November as it is in some other places in the Northern Hemisphere.

There is, dont forget, the 10,000 capacity Odyssey in Belfast. I saw Springsteen there last year with the Seeger Sessions Band and it was an amazing show. And apparently, Springsteen's manager said afterwards that it was one of the best shows Springsteen had done in 20 years. He could do a couple of nights there no bother.

That'd be terrible having to travel to Belfast.

Maybe Phoenix Park, are the gigs there in October under a tent?

Didn't he play the RDS for a few nights the last time he was over?

Yeah but Leinster are playing their home games there this year so it's out of the equation.

I reckon he'll do a night or two in croke park, but whether it's this winter or next summer when he does a fuller european tour i don't know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭comet

Yeah I'm sure they'll tour it through next summer.

We have Green Glens in Milstreet or the INEC in Killarney, i'd laugh if he played down the country and not in Dublin but I know it ain't going to happen. Cork are in the planning stages of getting approval for an event center in the docklands so at last the city should start drawing down the big guns.

He's supposedly playing Belfast before the end of the year and not playing in the Republic at all.

    Slane 2008, mark my words

His first show here was Slane 85, what better way to play his last e street ireland show?

But doesn't a certain promoter who shall not be named run the gigs in Slane? And also Springsteen will only go with Aiken.

well if he did slane 85 with aiken, surely it's possible?

Stuart Clarke from Hot Press was on the Last Word last week saying that Bruce loves Ireland so much that he would be sure to come here on his tour, he was saying he'll probably pay the RDS...

there were numerous rumours in november that springsteen drove down to slane with his family the day after he played belfast to show his kids. rumour has it he even spent the night there, i think the chances are that at some point slane 2008 as mentioned.
I seriously think he will play there next summer, as for this winter i don't know. of course he could play the rds indoor but we are talking about one of the biggest money grossing live bands in the world, i dont think that he would be very keen to play such a small and poor venue, remember he left off dublin on the arena leg of the rising tour, which I believe was because the point was not big enough for him to play with the e-street band and he tends not to play multiple nights at the same venue when he is with them. I think the point is fine when he is doing his side projects and other stuff but when he is with the e-street band he tends to play the top notch arenas or stadiums, so hopefully belfast is out best option.

Tends not to play multiple nights? I saw him with the E Street Band at the Meadowlands Arena as part of a 15 (I think) night stretch though that might be a bit of an exception as it's in NJ.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭yogicolly

yeh i think its a new jeresy but in most other areas he tends to only play 1 night, but i dont think its like a strict rule or anything.

anyway looks like its belfast december 15th.

Tour will surely break for Christmas and start again in the new year. I'd expect more dates in Europe in the spring. Hopefully

£60??!?!?! Ouch! And I thought the OTHER concert promoter's prices were high...

I'll put my money Slane 2008 too.

I'll be very, very surprised if he doesn't play somewhere in the Republic. Can't see him doing that considering he played three shows in the Point with the Seeger Sessions.

If he does come I really hope it's not the Point. The Sessions gig I was at was amazing but would have been far, far better in a bigger venue. E Street band is too big for the Point. RDS or Croker ftw!

I was actually at the one of the string of shows he did a few years earlier in '99 in the Meadowlands Arena.

i'm going to try and get tickets for the belfast gig just in case he does'nt play the republic, can't miss him with the e-street band.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 thedmann

i am very very surprised he is not playing dublin , it looks like he is maybe stretched for dates so close to christmas, maybe the fact that he has no place to have a gig of his magnitude known that the point is not operational, but i heard a rumour he might be playing slane for 2008 or the RDS, has anyone heard this also.
i hope to god he doesnt give us in the republic a miss with the E-STREET BAND, after playing dublin 5 times in two years and making a DVD also.
    anyone any thoughts on this?

He is not playing in the south as there is no venue. Just buy tickets for Belfast and make a weekend of it!

Look, don't panic, anyone who knows the layout of the last Springsteen tour with the e street band would know he did a european indoor leg that didn't include dublin, then he did the rds on the summer leg. breathe, he'll be back next may or june.

I have been on a few Brucie forums for the last 5 or so years,

and a lot of information i have recieved there is fairly good,

and they said there would be a small tour around this time,

and a much bigger one after, in the new year,

and it could be a stadium tour,

and the RDS has been mentioned,

Bruce does like Ireland a lot, you dont just make a DVD of a place and never go there again,

he will be back and a much bigger venue, and with the E Street Band,

and if anyone heard the rumours of the E Street Band quiting after this small tour,

they were pretty quickly squashed by Bruce,

he said they never have even thought about such an idea,

and they will be going for a long time to go yet,

so we will all get plenty chance to see Bruce and the E Street Band :D...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,991 ✭✭✭el tel

It's quite amusing that so many people are aghast that there is not going to be a gig in Dublin. So what? He's playing in Belfast...only a 100 miles and and no more than a 2.5 hour journey away. There is life beyond the Pale you know!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 740 ✭✭✭Cremated

I'm all up for Belfast, it will be a new venue i have never been to before,

but with all gigs if there in Dublin i find it better,

just for getting to it and from it,

but it's Bruce so i will put up with it :P...

Had 4 selected and was on the billing page at 8.59... pressed wrong button and was sent to back....
    I am physically sick now

Touting is bad, but people have tickets up yesterday, that they'd obviously gotten free, is a disgrace. go to backstreets.com or greasylake.org, springsteen fans, where tickets are never sold for above face value.

thats tough. btw touts overbought for last concerts in Dublin. they couldn't get rid of them at the venue. mind you there were three concerts and it was Seeger sessions. E Street Band is different

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭stooge

disgusting that people are selling them on ebay already.

The only way to really beat the touts is to sell them on the night as you go in. First come, first served.

Dont mind people selling them for good reason and making a little profit but when some wnakers put them up on ebay for 390euros before they are on general sale you really feel like giving them a good beating.

Sold out in 8 minutes according to this:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/northern_ireland/6981333.stm

    The BBC NI Article said:

    "Springsteen tickets sell out fast

Bruce Springsteen last played Belfast in November 2006
Tickets for Bruce Springsteen's concert in Belfast were on sale on eBay less than half an hour after it sold out.
Thousands of fans were left disappointed after it took just eight minutes for the Odyssey Arena tickets costing £49 and £60 to be snapped up.

One eBay vendor was asking £999 for four seated tickets, and many of the sellers specialise in sold-out events.

The 15 December concert is one of 31 dates on a tour which takes in Europe and North America.

Springsteen last played to a packed Belfast audience in November 2006, on the closing night of his Seeger Sessions tour.

His third appearance in the city will be in support of the forthcoming album Magic, which will be released in October.

The tour sees him reunited with the E Street Band for the first time in four years"
