Risk taking in Tourney

Hello all - First time posting

I don't have a specific example but I'm curious to get the opinions of more experienced players on this.

Playing in a tourney and a decision comes up where someone goes all in with about half your stack.

Lets say you are playing with twice the chip average on last two tables so you are looking good to hit the money as it stands.

You are BB and have AQo and you're pretty sure you are up against a lower pair based on the info picked up on your opponent.

Now I've seen references made in other articles/posts to the effect that you should call based on the pot odds you are getting as in the long run the numbers are on your side.

But what if this a bigger tourney, lets say a €300 monthly as opposed to a weekly €30 game. Should you always follow the maths or should the risk of it hurting
you in that specific situation over rule your decision?

Apologies in advance if I have made the question too vague.

Depends on wheater or not you want to win the tournament or just get in the money...

    Thanks for the link ollyk1,

I just scanned the posts and saw the vote and will read through in more detail later but it looks fairly conclusive.

A syndrome no less!!! So is there a cure? :)

The cost of the buyin should be irrelevent to any decision you make. Ironically, worrying about the cost of a buyin to a tournament will cost you money.

if you dont take this race that you are sure you are in you can coast to the money? and if you do and you win your in with a good chance to make top 3....... i pretty much willing to take this race toward the latter stages or probably even at the start if i have double the average.... if you lose you have average chips and you are still healthy and should make the money anyway,...

it depends on whether you wanna cash or whether you wanna win.

you should rarely put your tournament life at risk but in certain situations and i think in the late stages of a tournament especially this is one of them, you have to gamble...

Basically if the buy-in is affecting your decision then you shouldnt be playing the tournament in the first place.

You should always just be trying to make the best decision possible in any given situation.

i would never risk half my stack calling for a race on the last two tables. With twice the average id prefer to raise and re raise in position to keep building..

With the blinds getting bigger and the money bubble approaching blind stealing should get easier. (Depending on the quality of player left).
