hey, this is kind of pointless I admit but out of curiosity and lack of patience, does anyone know / remember when the offers for accomadation came out? All I can guess from the website is that they must be after CAO results but more than that I can't tell...

I was just on the phone to campus residences this morning and the girl said they hope the successful applicants will get offers this friday.

ah well that's not so bad.. although "hope" isn't so reassuring... :/

yeah according to the site you get preference so I'm not worried very much, just curious and impatient.

you say that now but i would abvise you not to accept an offer of a room in larkfield. the place is a dump with real small rooms, crap shower and no tv.

Hate to add to the negativity but all of the above is true...you couldn't even swing a cat in those rooms - very claustraphobic.

I stayed in Larkfield for CTYI when I was a kid and it was a kip then. That was over 6 years ago the last time i roomed there so I'd imagine it's even worse now. Last time I was in there the shower didn't even have a head on it. 3 weeks washing myself with what was effectively a hose :D

Small and old it may be but as I said in my Accomodation sticky I've had some of the best times of my period in college in Larkfield. There's a great buzz about the place, you'll meet loads of people and from a personal perspective anyway it set me up for four great years in college. :)

well, I'm home now and looking at my shiny new on-campus accomodation offer...

oh, and I'm in VG46A. I wonder who will be in B... *speculates*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭carlowboy

Does that mean I don't get it? :(

Sounds like you're on the ground floor. Never open your windows!

*shrug* I think it just means the post goes from dublin to dublin faster than dublin to carlow...

and i don't think us lowly freshers get windows.... :P

oh, as i forgot to say earlier, it's larkfield...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭carlowboy

I've stayed in Larkfield before as part of CTYI. You'll have your window alright.

    umm... *points politely at tongue-sticking-out-ASCII-art*

but seriously, why not open the ground floor window?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭carlowboy

Well it makes sense. We're going to be living fairly close to Ballymun so it goes without saying there will be scummers about. Therefore, things close to the window may be grabbed easily etc.

ah now... it's well inside the campus.. I wouldn't *leave* the window open though...

now you mention it, yes, being off the ground floor would be plain easier all around...

oh and i hope you get your offer on monday!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭carlowboy

Ah I hope so too. My friend got 450 or so last year and got Larkfield so I'm pretty optimistic with 545.

Dont mean to worry you carlowboy, but I am pretty much the other side of the country as Dublin and I got my larkfield offer...

Years ago guys would come out of the bar on ball nights and knock on bedroom windows looking for a girl who was willing to be charitable and share her bed for the night. Rumour has it, campus res copped on and put all the lads on the ground floor and the girls safely out of reach on the first floor, thinking it might put off the fellas.

Oh and I totally agree with Simon, old res is a bit of a dive but it's great fun, you'll meet lots of people and you probably won't spend much time there anyway.

You're in House 1 carlowboy, ground floor, lookin out on the larkfield entrance. A fantastic spot. Not only are you in a nicer place but you get to perv on all the larkfielders (or shoe-boxers as they like to be known) and you're beside the vending machine. I was V261 in first year. Best craic ever.

Hampstead is generally all mixed but the office will do their best to keep some first years together.

As for Larkfield being good craic, yes indeed it is. Luckily for you you're just across from it so if you get to know people living over there you'll be able to crash anytime you want. :)

Your livin above carlowboy. House 1 overlooking the larkfield entrance. Pretty good spot alright. When I lived there House 1 and House 10 were all first years so I imagine it's still the same. It's fairly likely that you'll be livin with 4 other girls. They generally don't mix first years unless you applied as a group. It's not guaranteed though obviously.

Try and make an effort to get to know everyone in your house during the first few days. Don't be afraid to go knockin on doors. It's what we did in first year and it really made a big difference. There was a great house atmosphere and we could throw big parties and no-one would go ringing security. Plus it's nice to know your neighbours. :) Was somethin I really missed in 2nd year in college park tbh...
