Discuss (maybe not really a discussion, i just hope people will be shamed out of using it by the 427 agreeing replies to this thread)

    Qft :p

In fact, I detest all acronyms and text speak.

My most hated are lol and something else that i cant think of right now.

I hate all the acronyms. Especially 'tbh'

LOL! IMO (or ++) IMHO QFT 4 bds =

I hate acronyms - i have to use an acronym dictionary, and i keep it as a hotlink in my navigation bar.

    also:

QFT - quit ****ing talking, Quantum Field Theory, etc. etc.

when I see QFT I think Quit ****ing talking, personally - so you can see I get rather confused everytime i see it.

    good USA commercials though man:
Mom: Whats this phone bill about, young lady?

    Daughter: OMG, its NBD!

Mom: Its a very big deal! Who have you been calling?

    Daughter: IDK...proably Nikki.

It goes on like that for a while - i cant recall the rest.

QFT = I'm not very articulate and I can't be arsed to explain myself ... but yeah I agree with Joe!

It's most annoying in debates or political discussions. It's as if one person's in the ring taking the blows and they're ringside shadow boxing. Lazy Lemmings.

In other topics such as pop culture favourites it doesn't irritate as much ... just mainly for being another pesky and overused acronym.

How about we do a deal with the British MPs regards the positive affirmation of a well made point?
We post "Hear, hear" and they shout "QFT" in Parliment.
At least it would be a bit of a change.

It's been around for years mate. Why use it? Well it's internet chat speak. We are on Internet. Case closed.

    QFT FTW!

The only thing I have a problem with is someone who throws out a post and ends it with "Discuss..."

Abbreviations are OK, txtspk not OK

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭RoundyMooney

Superfluous exclamation!! marks!! (edit:mar shampla) and apostrophe's are the only annoyances that I encounter.

Well that and the whole retarded meme of rickrollin' and "YoreMa!!!onehundredandeleventy".

    Aside from that, abbreviations FTW.

    QFT!!

but seriously I hate txt spk. it is completly retarded. while it may save you that extra second or two when writing (unless you have to sit there and figure out how you can make a word smaller) it takes the reader an extra 10 seconds (if you're good) to decypher what the fúck the person is trying o say through all the bullshít

If certain words and phrases on the web annoy you, just get the ProCon Firefox extension. It's a content filter for blocking naughty stuff. I've turned off all of its features except the profanity filter and I've cleared the built-in list of cuss words and replaced them with my own pet hates.

Two phrases that annoy me are "Yore ma!!!" and "much?" (as in "stalking much?"). I've set the filter to replace them with "I am a fucking moron" and it really brightens up my day. I've also added a few boards user names to the list, with hilarious results.

    Me too!

the other one I remembered that I hate is FTW. I've never even heard it being said in normal talking conversations.

What happens if someone asks how much? Does that get replaced?
    Did mine?

Now the polish are starting to use it too! I was shocked the other day when I sent an email to a polish dude in work, when the response was along the lines of: "k so, send me a mail if u r in 2moro".

I think the original intention was to prevent someone editing their comments after they have kicked off a flame war.

So if I said the Earth is Flat (scandalous, I know!) . And everyone else disagrees (I hope). Someone would QFT my statement before I had a chance to go back and edit it to cover my tracks.

    That is all.

Yes it's a theoretical framework, widely used in particle physics and condensed matter physics, in which to formulate consistent quantum theories of many-particle systems, especially in situations where particles may be created and destroyed.

I don't know why it keeps cropping up on boards though.

I just did a course on it, that's what I think when I see "qft" most of the time!

AH just seemed an odd place for a thread on it though :D

When I seen it first I hadn't a notion what it was. A quick google told me that.

It's basically where you are given an option between numerous things and you use FTW to show your support for one of the options e.g. What is your favourite county?

Sligo FTW. This is me showing my support for Sligo which I hope would be followed by quite a few QFTs but probably not.

I thought QFT was used to quote someone who had edited their original post because they realised their own idiocy or were receiving flak from their fellow nerds for their views.

Its been around other forums for ages, its just something to do when you agree with what someone posts. If you want to talk about something stupid, talk about how people on boards use "tbh" every time they post, or the people who sign their posts

IDK, TBH IMO (AKA IMHO) L2Acro or GTFO Noobs. FFS QFT FTW so GFY before you're FUBAR and TTT to RTFInternetM while you're at it.

Acronyms are fine by me, once they are used sparingly and are not completely obscure (TTT), it speeds things up imo, tbh. :p
